Quinoa Dishes on Westside?

Was just at Tender Greens in Culver City and they had a great looking quinoa and broccoli side. I did not have but lots of people ordered it.

Mercado in Santa Monica. Anyone tried it? And Loteria on The Promenade in S.M.

Went to Mercado a few weeks ago. Had a nice time but I think it needs to mature a bit. Servers were scrambling a bit and tried their best to be efficient. We had the following:
- Squash Blossoms: very average. would not order again. agree generously stuffed with cheese but the cheese was not melted. Had better at Mozza.
- Ceviche - spouse loved it and would go back for it. I thought is was OK. Not much flavor. Should be served with lime but enjoyed the saltines!
- Nopalitos - great flavor loved the chile negro
- Dos Gringas - our favorite...perfection...would go back for these!!
- Turkey leg mole - sad dissapointment...its was a dry turkey leg with mole on was just sad...the mole was good...there was just not love on the plate..only way to explain it. The flavors just never joined.
- Flan - yes it is the best flan in the universe!!
We are looking forward to our next trip back to explore the menu some more.

Review: Bottega Louie

I mean not disrespect OmChef but I think you and I went to two different restaurants. Had brunch at Bottega Louie this weekend. It was beyond packed and the noise level was unreasonable....there was nothing "pretty melllow" about it. I think it's impossible to fix the sound without affecting the integrity of the space...I get it. The space is wonderful. Next is the hostess who quoted every guest the same wait time regardless of the flow, 15-20 mins. We were told 15 mins and waited 35 mins. By the time we were seated there were considerable more people waiting and she was still quoting 15-20 mins. During our wait many tables remained empty. They either do not have enough staff to cover the tables or the kitchen cannot get enough food out to cover all the tables...I think its both and its obvious. The service was less than average. Had the burratta rapini pizza for an ap, which was wonderful except they forgot to bring plates. Our food was brought before we could get someone's attention for plates. Then all our food was brought at once. So here we are with pizza, no plates our salads and our entrees. Oh yeah, forgot to mention we could we could not get iced tea because the waitress said "Jose the busboy was slammed". All our food was good...BLT, club sandwich, burgers, arugula salad. The best part was my SO club sandwich...the bottom piece of bread was not toasted. It was the strangest...funniest thing. If you can handle the noise and erratic service the food is good.

Good Ceviche - citrus and onion NOT ketchup based

I have not been there in a while but believe it or not I really liked the ceviche at Frida's in BH on Beverly. It is not old school authentic like the other recs but it was really good, fresh and lots of options/versions.

Try Angel Bakery on Centinela. Not sure they sell by the slice might be by the cake only.

Bar Pintxo

Agree with many of you. Had my first Pinxto experience last night. This is a place to run in for a quick bite and a glass of wine before a movie. This is not a place to dine. Also agree there is no balance to the food. Everything tasted the dimension. Its spring/summer and we are in an incredible time for fresh fruit and veggies and Pinxto is missing the boat.

Where to buy la dalia pimenton de la vera hot ?

Believe it or not, I found it a Whole Foods but it was not in the spice section. I think it was with condiments..jar olives etc. I found it by accident.

Dinner near LAX?

You can also head south on Sepulveda towards Manahattan Beach maybe 10-12 mins and they have all the standard "safe" choices for family restuarnts i.e., Marmalade, Il Fornaio, McCormick & Schmidts etc.

Best Indian, Mediterranean, Persian Restaurants in West LA

For Persian I would rec Mizban on Santa Monica just east of Sepulveda. The atmoshpere is lacking but the food is great. I eat there once a week of lunch.

I was always unsuccessful getting reservations at Fraiche so one day my significant other and I decided to just walk a table no problem. I would try to walk in to Fraiche and if nothing is available walk 2 blocks to Ford's Filling Station. .

I am a fan of Beechwood for cocktails and happy hour - not for dining. However it can be a little quiet if you go early...but I don't mind that.

Cape Town: best restaurant?

Will be in Cape Town mid-Nov. Where would the locals would go to celebrate/splurge on dinner....not touristy. We are staying in the V&A Waterfront (I know touristy). Want a nice dining experience, excellent food, great service and not concerned about cost. Don't want to be sitting next to the ugly tourist with the screaming kids ordering chicken fingers.

Cape Town: best restaurant?

Any opinions on Beleza restaurant? I will be in Cape Town next month (staying at VA Waterfront) and was looking to have a nice celebratory dinner...a place where the locals would go.
