Solo Seattle

I'm going to be traveling through Seattle at a midpoint of a pretty whirlwind west coast travel stint - it'll be my only two days/nights alone and chilled out, so I'm looking for a place near 3rd and Cherry (I'm from NYC, so walking a bit isn't an issue) to chill out during the day, drink a glass of wine or a beer (or three) and read. And taste some tasty food while I'm at it. Somewhere where I can linger at a table or a bar without feeling like I'm annoying the bartender/not letting them turn the table fast enough. Any recommendations/thoughts?

Lost Theme Party Ideas

Anyone have any good ones for the series finale? There have been some previous posts here from years past, but they center a lot on Dharma stuff and, well, the show has really moved away from the Dharma concept in the last few seasons. Any ideas for more current food/drink? I'm still going to do my usual Dharma beer/wine labels for everyone, but other than that, I pretty much can only think of smoked salmon (Smokey, get it?) and black and white cookies. Any ideas?

Fun Restaurant + Quiet Enough for Good Conversation

I have two friends from out of town who have never been to NYC before coming in for the weekend. I'm trying to think of a place to go for dinner Saturday night. I'm looking for somewhere that is fun/cool/not lame but isn't so loud that we can't talk - we're high school friends who haven't seen each other for about a year. One of them hates tapas. Lupa was suggested, and seems like a good fit, but they don't have availability for tomorrow. Any other ideas?
Price point: around 50-60 bucks each with drinks. Location: below 14th street.

Did I just ruin my new cast iron griddle pan?

I thought that the "enameled" just referred to the enamel coating on the outside of the pan, not the inside black-cast-iron part. Good to know that I just have no concept of the differences between types of cast iron and not a ruined pan.

Thanks for your help!

Did I just ruin my new cast iron griddle pan?

Just got a calphalon grill pan for my birthday, it came pre-seasoned. Used a wee bit of dish detergent yesterday when cleaning it (after the first time i used it, of course). NOW i hear that soap and cast iron does not mix. Would that little bit of soap ruin the seasoning? Do I have to reseason my pre-seasoned pan?

Romantic Noodles

Okay, tall order here, I know - but I'm looking for a nice place where we can get some really good noodles (asian) that's romantic and not super cheap. I initially thought Soba Totto, but the midtown location/business lunch vibe kinda turns me off. I haven't actually been there, so I might be totally wrong, of course. I was thinking then OG (Oriental Grill) in the East Village, but kind of wanted to make this a nice dinner and it might be a little too inexpensive. But I can't find a menu online, so I'm just kind of getting that vibe. I'd like to spend around 100 dollars, before tip, including wine/drinks, for two. Any leads out there? I'm really open to any location, as long as it has a more-romantic-than-business vibe to it.

Graduation Dinner; Italian, $20-30 pp

Graduation Dinner in May - Italian is preferable. Location would be best in the Upper West Side, Hell's Kitchen or Chelsea. 20 -30 pp, not including wine (a good selection of wines by the bottle AND glass is necessary). Somewhere that can accommodate a group of 10, including a 13 year old boy, without making it uncomfortable. Any ideas?

Brunch for a Big Group

Getting about 12 old college sorority sisters together for brunch in a few weeks. We've done Essex before, but we're looking for something different. Any recommendations for good brunch place below 14th Street or Upper West Side that would be able to accomodate a big group and have good (read: strong) drinks?

Best Casual Restaurants on Ninth Between 42nd and 57th

Thai Basil is excellent, on 9th near 57th. It's a tiny place, but has a really cute interior & atmosphere.

Sushi near Empire State Building

Hey, looking for a good place to go for sushi near the empire state building with an old college friend. Nothing too expensive, but something that serves drinks is a necessity.

Trader Joe's - Whats the big deal?

I like their pre-cut vegetables & big bags of frozen poultry & fish. It's cheaper than what you can get at whole foods, but of similar quality. Their produce & bread is hit & miss. But for basics like spices, flour, sugar, and certain frozen items - you can't beat the price/quality combination anywhere.

Big Restaurant Venue?

Hey, I'm trying to organize an alumni event for about 100 people and trying to think of a nice, big restaurant in manhattan that would be able to accomodate a private party of that size. Not really digging a hotel concept, any restaurants anyone knows of? Price isn't too much of an issue - I wouldn't want the total price to be more than 12,000 - 15,000. Any tips?
