Atmosphere first, cozy would be nice....a place we can linger over wine and din din. I was thinking something like Cafe D'artists in hollywood. Or Il cielo in BH. Ive been to and like both. Any other suggestions? No westside or valley suggestions please.....more eastside...downtown....mid city...to bh....Thanks so much for any suggestions. I'm in love!

You mention that it might not be your favorite tasting menu, can you name your favorites? Your Spago dinner sounded delicious.

Madrona Manor lately?

I am planing a 40th b-day bash for late July. Has anyone been to Madrona Manor recently? Reviews? Pros? Cons? Thanks in advance.

Lobster roll @ Fish King

Anyone try the lobster roll at the Fish King Galley? Last time I was there, I saw it on the menu for only $3.50. I had a hankering for the clams that day so I didn't try the lobster roll. Is it worth going back for? Thanks in advance.

Your favorite Happy Hour food specials?

My favorite is Mortons downtown. Five dollar prime beef slyders and blue cheese fries. A bargain in my opinion. Where are your favorites? I live in Los Feliz and prefer to stay on the eastside. No westside or valley recs. needed unless there is something outstanding. Thanks in advance.

What is good @ Fish King's Galley?

Thanks! I love spicy tuna.

What is good @ Fish King's Galley?

I am looking for good fried clams. I was just curious about everyone else's recs. for their cooked food Galley. Thanks

Iso chinatown's best fried rice

I have a huge hankering for some fried rice...any suggestions for chinatown? It can be veg or filled with meat, I don't care, I just want some tasty fried rice. One of my favorite bowls of fried rice comes from Benihana strangely enough. I just dont feel like having the whole benihana experience...just some fried rice. Thanks in advance

Paperfish

I had lunch there. The chef is the chef formerly of Petros in Manhattan Beach. All of Petros receipes are Yanni's who is the chef at Paperfish. I couldnt decide what to order so I i asked the chef for a tasting of his best dishes. It was all delicious. I really cannot remember what I had because i was drinking too, and I usually do not drink. I was witha party of eight and everyone else got the tasting. Everyone loved it. Try Paperfish out. You will enjoy it!

70th b-day on Thursday...Please help!

It's my Dad's 70th on Thursday. I need some recs. on somewhere to make reservations.
My Dad doesn't want a big deal but my brother and I insisted on taking him somewhere nice. Here is the criteria...Delicous food. Classy place that is low key, quiet and comfortable. A spelcial place that my parents can sit back, relax, and have a memorable evening with their two sons. Price really isn't an issue, but it doesn't have to be Urusawa! Location can be...SFV, eastside/ hollywood, beverly hills. Italian is his favorite but he likes everything so if you can help me out, I'd appreciate it a lot. Thanks in advance...

Anyone elso try Il Capriccio Pizzeria yet?

Yes it was your review. Your blog is on my favorite places and I always enjoy your writing. Even though I value your opinion, I was looking for some others perspective as well. Thanks for responding chowpatty.

Anyone elso try Il Capriccio Pizzeria yet?

I read the one review. Anyone else try them out yet? Is it pizza only? What kind of topping action do they have? Is it good? Great? Ok? Expensive? I can walk there in five minutes, however, I am insane and would like to hear what other think before I venture in. Thanks in advance

Westlake Joe's - Report

I am so envious of you Nor-calers. I am 38, born, raised and living in LA. My grandparents lived in the Richmond District of SF and I visited them several times a year until their deaths several years ago. My earliest and best food memories comes from my time with my Grandparents at Joe's. I believe the Hostess when I was a child was Anne? Annie? While basic, I always crave...the small dinner salad with blue cheese dressing (I love the par boiled veg. in the salad, the minestone soup with piles of the pre-grated parmegeano, the pot roast, leg of lamb, fried scallops and prawns and the little cocktail wienes that my grandmother would bring out to me from the bar. I miss the sad clown painting in the waiting area. I miss the whole old school vibe at Joe's. I need to visit SF soon.

Doner kebab sandwich?

I just tried it the other day. I thought it was delicious, as was the pita chips and hummus. I have never seen any doner kebab places in France, however, they are all over the place in London, Enjoy Spitz's!

Maple Drive in B.H.

I know the original chef from Petros in Manhattan beach Yanni and he used to work with Eric Klein @ Maple Drive back in the day. Yanni will be back @ Maple Drive soon. Not sure how soon though.
