They do have a few bottled beers, and the burgers were great. If skiing in Vail, you can always get a larkburger at Larkspur in Golden Peak. The creator of Lakburger.

Tonight in charleston

Huband and I are looking for some fresh, contemporary cuisine tonight in Charleston. Loved Fig and SNOB on previous visits. Looking for the same type of experience. Suggestions for a Sunday night?

Bald Head Island - any suggestions for good food?

Take whatever you can. Cooking in the houses there is the way to go. Very limited restaurants on Bald Head. The club on the ocean side has the best food that I have eaten on Bald Head.

Chinese in Wilmington?

You need to go to Double Happiness. Great food. The Siagon Market is our best ethnic market on Kerr Ave.

YIKES. ELMO'S DINER

Had bad lunch at Elmo's last Saturday in Carrboro. Friends milkshake glass had huge chip of sharp glass missing. Server was going to get new glass, then we said hope glass isn't in shake. Finally got new shake. All our fries were stone cold, No bacon on two burgers. Got new fries and bacon out after we had basically finished burgers. Then, icing on cake, After splitting bill and leaving, my friend looks at bank statement next day and realizes she was charged her part $14 and then another charge for $31. The only reason we went here was the recs of other chowhounders. Chapel Hill and Carrrboro have many better places. Choose wisely!

great meal - Bella Monica, Raleigh NC

I have been to this restaurant several times now, and it is great! Being a lasagna lover, that dish is usually my test. There's is fantastic. And hot throughout! The crab flat bread app was wonderful as well. Carol was our server the otherday and was so accommodating. We were a late table and were not rushed or made to feel like we were a problem. This is a great place. Go!

YUM!

I went here for my last visit to Brooklyn. Our return trip proved it to be just as great this time. We sampled the white salad, the mussels and the fresh grilled sardines. All great. Then dinner was wonderful as well. I had the tortelli which was wonderful. The flavor was so good I wanted to eat it all night! My friend had the calf's liver, and loved it. Also had the ricootta/ Swiss chard gnocchi and the rabbit. Thanks Al Di La, All and all a great evening.

Christmas dinner 2009 [A J Maxwell's Steakhouse]

We had a reservation here for Christmas dinner at 7:30 and were told it would be a minute. Well it was after 8pm before we were sat. We were not the only ones sat late. Hostess was not being very pleasant as we watched others inquire about there reservations. We own a fine dining restaurant and understand busy nights and how to adjust accordingly. We ordered a steak, mid rare and it was well past that when it arrived. The potato gratin was undercooked, the brussel sprouts were roasted and very wine flavored, but did not taste like brussel sprouts.A disappointment. The onion rings were the best thing we ordered. The server was pleasant but after the initial check back, we never saw him until he dropped the check. We watched the guy in the suit, the manager I assume, not go up to one table! I am sure he is being paid, but not sure for what. Honestly, he really did not do much but walk back and forth. We were hoping for more based on the hotel concierge suggestion and recommendation. Oh well, we won't be going back and I doubt many more of their customers ever will either. Tourists I guess.

They are on Opentable and came up in my search of open Christmas eve near times square. Also menu looked good and they seemed to be decked out in the buddah theme and said to have koi ponds under glass in the floor. Thought this could be good for us and 6 year old. restaurant kid.

Christmas Day in NYC

I have been checking opentable for Christmas Day Brunch or Lunch. I could still use a little more insight. I am aware of the crowds in Chinatown... We are staying in Midtown. Looking for creative menu. Our six year old will be with us. Not super fine dining where his presence could bother others, but still want a quality experience. He is well behaved, and we are trying to plan a great nyc experience for all.

We want some great food and a different non traditional Christmas Eve since we have chosen to spend it in the city with our six year old. He knows how to behave in restaurants...He has grown up in the business, literally.

Wilmington, NC's best mashed potaotes??

Of course Marc! The key thing I learned about making the great mash is the potatoes have to DRY. Apparently very important.

Big Thai Wilmington

Had lunch here a couple of times in the last couple of weeks and it is really fantastic. If you have not been, you should. Yesterday we had the rabbit panang curry and the flavor was wonderful. If you are not so adventurous there are plenty of more basic things to chose from. Big does a really nice job with the flavor of his sauces.

Breakfast in Wilmington

Brunch there is pretty good. Mostly different variations of egg benedict, french toast and then some other Italian things if you are looking more for a lunch meal. There space is very attractive. Also they offer $3.50 bloody mary's and mimosas! Leon's is pretty basic old south fare. They do have very good waffles. They allow smoking on half of the restaurant and this bothers me. The Basics, downtown is open and they are serving brunch.

New to Downtown Wilmington, NC

The best place to eat downtown is Caprice Bistro. Wonderful French food. Locally owned and operated by a wonderful couple.
Try the Basics for lunch or brunch. I have not had dinner there but have enjoyed the other two. Catch serves a great lunch, Monday thru Friday and Big Thai is also a great spot.

osteria cicchetti- wilmington,nc

We had lunch at the "OC" today. I had the White Bean and Pancetta Soup of the day and the Spinach salad. Husband had the BLT panini. We like to go here for lunch. Lunch tends to be our main meal and it was good. Quite a few things I have had before are not on the menu anymore. We miss the beet cold plate. The chicken is good and I have enjoyed the lasagna before. The food prices are very competitive and the wine prices are a fairly steep mark up. We do like the pizza although a couple of times there has been way to much cheese and I like Cheese a lot.

Wilmington NC - Where do YOU dine?

Savannah's did not close.Zooi and Frankies did. Bento box will move to zooi space and the old members of Salty's have opened at Lumina Station in the Opus/Fathoms spot. We'll see how that goes.

Wilmington NC - Where do YOU dine?

Just so you know, Zooi closed if that was an option for you. I am sad about this, so now must recommend Caprice Bistro downtown. We have not been there much lately because Zooi was closer to home and the babysitting parents.
The panang shrim curry at Jessamine was also very good as were the dumpling app. We have been a lot lately and have had great experiences every time.

Power lunch in ILM, NC

Port City Chop House has private room and has always seemed a place from a buisness lunch. Ash's place Oseteria Checcetti (SP?) we call it the O.C. , also has the ability for private room for lunch. If you were looking for dinnner spots I would have a separate list of locally owned places that can accomodate for dinner, but, they are not open for lunch.

what roses are you drinking?

Hendry from Napa Valley. Great! $14
Renwood $12

Casual Lunch in Wilmington

Do what we do...go to Catch or Big Thai for lunch and then go to Kilwins Ice Cream And Fudge At the base of Market Street. The toasted coconut ice cream is great. Then walk down to the riverfront, sit on a bench, and eat your ice cream. You can even get a glimce of Ned and Ed the horses that pull the carriage. There is not a place in Wilmington that serves delicious food with a view of the water. South Beach is good, Airlie Seafood on the waterway, just down from Dockside at Wrightsville is okay with a good view, but, do not expect to get great food and scenery in one stop. If you are near Wrightsville, The food at Oseteria Chechetti or the Bento Box is good and then you could go to Airlie Gardens for your Scenery. Actually, get a to go order or, pack a picnic, Airlie is so pretty!

Wilmington NC - Where do YOU dine?

Timechime does have some good recs. Today we tried Jessamine Thai and sushi again. They are still working to open the sushi bar but our experience was much improved over when they had first opened. The space looks so much better. The purple trim is gone and so is the funny divider wall that went down the middle. Lots of choices for lunch. Many of the items from Big Thai are on the menu. The angel wing app was terrific and so was the calamari. So light and crisp. My husband had the papaya beef salad which he said is just the same as it was at Rim Wang,SPICY! My curry chicken noodles were good too. They also have brought back thePHO from Viet Bistro, actually using the old Viet recipe. If you have not been lately, go again. I think we might make it a regular Sunday lunch spot!

Best Caterers in Wilmington NC?

Beth at Coriander's in Hampstead does a great job and so does Lottie at A Southern Thyme in Wilmington. They are both very good at catering but the do not have a space. If you picked the preservation Hall or Bellamy Mansion I would go with either of them.
