zito's sandwiches - 7th avenue park slope..anyone tried them yet?
I couldn't agree more. I used to love Russo's but it really is filthy these days. in addition, my husband recently bought some grated parm there and I discovered, as soon as he brought it home, that it was moldy. He brought it right back (this was all within 30 minutes) and was given a very hard time about it. A shame because I LOVE the roasted artichokes and will miss them!
I have been to Zito's a few times and like it quite a bit. The sandwiches are top rate--made with high-end ingredients--and everything else is good too. Love the Six Point beer selection and the atmosphere too.
South Slope dessert place
How about the new Almondine on 9th Street just below 7th Ave?
Vinegar Hill House - Review
I actually meant to post on VHH after I tried it back in the spring. I had the signature roast chicken and it was delicious *but* (call me crazy) I was put-off by the griminess of the place. I get that they are going for rustic but it just seemed dirty to me. In addition, I visited the bathroom after placing my order mostly to wash my hands post-subway/pre-eating to discover that the soap dispenser was empty. I poked my head out to ask for a refill and proceeded to wait a good 15 minutes (really!) while someone ran around looking for soap. She finally brought me a tiny ramekin with about two drops of liquid in it (it was really not enough for one hand-washing). My companion visited the bathroom later and there was still no soap.
I may give it another chance but, honestly, this kind of thing matters to me. After all, what was the staff doing about washing their hands?
Red Hook Lobster Pound at Buttermilk Channel?
The Red Hook Lobster Pound lobster is a Friday night special at Buttermilk Channel. It is in addition to the regular menu. Both my son & husband have had it and loved it. I'm not sure about the pricing.
Lucali is a Tourist Trap.
i find it interesting that the op calls it a "tourist trap". i never thought of it that way; my impression is that it is a local gem. i am a big fan of that type of pizza--thin being key for me. people prefer different things. it sounds as though lucali does not offer the style of pizza that recursion favors.
as for it being expensive--it is. however, i find the quality, atmosphere, etc so to my liking that it is worth the price. the byob policy makes up for a lot, as well. if that went away i would definitely go less often.
seasonal fruit pies in brooklyn?
Ladybird is closed for vacation this week. They do bake some pretty good pies though. In fact, I would say they are the best of any that I have tried in Brooklyn or Manhattan. I urge you to give them a try when they return from vacation.
Is the quality of the food at Lucali dipping?
hmmm...i have actually only been going there for a little over a year, waxyjax. so, maybe the cheese is different from when they first opened. if so, lucky me to not have experienced any decline!
Is the quality of the food at Lucali dipping?
i eat at lucali once a week on average! i can attest to it being consistently wonderful. in fact, each pizza seems *better* than the last.
biscuits in Park Slope area?
Sarabeth's from FD are a staple for me. Ladybird does make some pretty good biscuits though--much larger than Sarabeth's. I would call to find out when they have them. They are always there on weekend mornings; I'm not sure about other times.
good brunch downtown
hello. i will be hooking up with family in chicago (i live in brooklyn) over the 4th of july weekend. we are looking for a great brunch spot in close proximity to the wendella boats. i look forward to suggestions. thanks!
Lucali/ Good Friday
Does anyone know if Lucali will be open tonight? Something tells me that they may not be because of Good Friday. It is too early to call and it will be too late to decide what we are doing if we wait until 5:30. Thanks.
Little D's Eatery
I, too, am a Little D fan. I also read somewhere (?) that they were trying to sell. Does anyone have any more information? I will miss them if/when they go.
Blanxart Chocolate
A quick online search came up with Sur La Table: http://www.coolhunting.com/archives/2005/09/blanxart_chocol.php
I could not find it on their website, however. I think you should give them a call. If that doesn't work, it looks as though there are a lot of places from which you can order it.
Brook Vin, new wine bar
I imagine that they are in business to make money. If you think the mark-up is too high, do not patronize them. In addition, if you are offended by how they identify themselves, do not patronize them. I enjoyed myself there (twice now). I found the $4.00 almonds and $4.00 olives, among various other food offerings, delicious and satisfying. I enjoyed a number of their wines and one non-wine loving companion enjoyed a couple of bourbons. It is a lovely atmosphere with nice service close to my home. It definitely fills a niche for me.
Brook Vin, new wine bar
I also tried it on opening night (@5:00!). I loved the food. We had the almonds, Taleggio tartine, lollo rosso salad and a cheese plate. It was a very satisfying light supper. We also tried a few of the red wines by the glass; the house red was our hands-down favorite. It is a very nice, comfortable atmosphere--a great addition to the area. The place was really filling up by the time we headed out. I think it will prove to be pretty popular.
Brook Vin, new wine bar
They will not be open until 1/22. I am also wondering about food. Does anyone know? It looks beautiful.
Thanksgiving redux
I am now leaning toward cooking so I have not really been looking. Rosewater does look good though. Thanks for the Farm on Adderley tip. I will take a look; I have always wanted to try it.
Park Slope Thanksgiving Take Out Suggestions?
Fresh Direct is offering fully cooked traditional Thanksgiving meals. They need to be re-heated. I would love to be able to find a prepared turkey and do the sides myself but have not found this option anywhere.
Butcher and table rental for Thanksgiving - Park Slope
I second the rec of United Meat Market. You will love this place and it is totally convenient to the south slope. I buy all of my meat there.
Thanksgiving redux
Has anyone yet noticed or become aware of any Park Slope restaurants that might be offering a traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year? Thanks!

Thanksgiving dinner in Park Slope, Cobble Hills, Hgts
I am also looking for a great Thanksgiving restaurant experience this year--preferably in Park Slope--traditional turkey and sides. It might be a bit early for the restos to be rolling out their plans but if anyone happens to know of any please post. Thanks!
where to buy mini cupcakes in brooklyn?
Ladybird, formerly known as Two Little Red Hens, on 8th Avenue between 10th & 11th Streets.
Where can I buy maldon salt near Soho?
I would think that it is available at Dean & DeLuca as well as Whole Foods.
Riva, Navy Pier
I am a New Yorker who will soon be a guest at a dinner at Riva. I would like to hear feedback on this place and I am wondering about dress-code. Thanks!
What's your favorite brand of vanilla ice cream??
This will not help the op since it is in New York but I recently discovered Ronnybrook Hudson Valley Vanilla. I am becoming addicted.
