Does crawfish season matter here in LA?

I suggest you have them shipped here to LA and boil them yourself. It really isn't all that expensive or that hard. You just need the tools, i.e., outdoor boiler. They are shipped over night with seasoning.

SD Steakhouse - suggestions

thanks - good recs on this thread.

SD Steakhouse - suggestions

I am a new S.D. resident looking for a good steak house Have heard of Flemings, Rainwaters, the Palm -- anybody have a preference between these or other high end steakhouses in S.D.? As a reference point, my fav steakhouses are Mastros and Wolfgangs (not cut) in LA - fav cut is a bone in ribeye.

seattle musts

in seattle for two night. any suggestions on must eats? staying at the Westin on sixth street in downtown. May hit up a mariners game tomorrow night, so might have only one night of eats. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

have gotten one recommendation of Palisades -- is this worth it?

Pico Robertson..did my gf move us to no man's land?

I live down the street from you on La Cienega. You are in prime real estate, you can really get to any point in LA in an LA minute. Olympic and pico can get you to the westside, culver city is just down the street on Roberston.Tons of bars and places to eat. Farmers market is a 10 minute bike ride away. hollywood is a cab ride away. You have a great music venue in the mint down the street. La Brea is busy, you can walk to il gellato on robertson for some cheap eats -- dont fret - just go searching.

Pico Robertson Area..any local bars/ taverns?

second Bergin's

Wiltern - Any new recs?

Went to pizza man last night before the wilco show. It is the korean version of CPK -- which for a quick bite before a show is not bad. Got the sampler app platter - wings, fries, mozzarella sticks, chicken sticks. Also got the bolgolgi pizza. Sit at the bar and split a pitcher of a beer and the night starts out right.

Pico Robertson Area..any local bars/ taverns?

i live close to you, on the corner of pico and la cienega -- sadly, not that many bars in the area. there is the mint just east of la cienega on pico -- very good music. also, on la brea, just south of wilshire there are a couple of spots.

there is a bar on the corner of robertson and pico, called joe's something -- never been.

although not walking distance, culver city, just a couple of minutes away by car has some good new bars.

Wiltern - Any new recs?

whatever you do - do not go to the restaurant connected to the wiltern. went there a while back before a show, they had a pre-set menu that was very limited, over priced and the food sucked!

What happened to Standard Knife & Cutlery?

The owner retired.

Wolfgang's Steakhouse Beverly Hills

Its almost as good. Was a very big fan of the one in NYC and was real excited when they opened up on here -- have been many times and appreciate the attention to the steak - but it isn't 100% as good as the NYC one. I would give it 96% as good. When they first opened, they brought out some of the staff to give it the same vibe, not sure if that is still the case.

unusual kosher dessert

Second Delice.

Best Persian Restaurant in Westwood

Pastilla and cous cous are both morrocan and not persian. That being said, i prefer javan's over darya (darya seems more stuffy). Standard persian food, lots of grilled meats and fish, rice, tadij with accompanying stews. A newer looking restaurant should appeal to the two youngins, the place is clean and not that loud which should appeal to the man of 83.

Looking For People To Grill/Make Great Tacos At My House for a Party

I just did this for my wife's 30th -- great stuff, very reasonable and the guy's were real nice, three kinds of tacos and multiple salsas n toppings, as well as rice n beans. $7 per person.

Who's still doing great weekend brunch these days?

if price is not that big of a concern, the brunch at the four seasons is good -- a vast array of food.

Decent gyro joints in the Santa Monica area.

there is a strip mall on the corner of bundy and pico -- the greek place in the center has a good gyro -- the stip mall quality of the place can be decieving, but the gyro is quite good. same strip mall as north end pizza, coffee bean and a strip club -- classic.

the best merguez sausage

le petit bistro has good merguez. Jeff's gourmet mergues aren't that legit -- taste sort of like a regular hot dog with some extra seasoning.

Merguez sausage?

you can check out sammy's market on fairfax. north of the old eat a pita. between beverly and third. these are kosher but great.

Brent's Deli in Northridge-overrated IMO

grabbed a cornbeef sandwich from Brent's yesterday -- was all amped because everyone always tells me how good it is. Have to say was disapointed, wasn't a bad sandwich, just wasn't everything it was hyped up to be. It was just a cornbeef sandwich, a little on the dry side, not too salty. Nate n Al's does a better sandwich in my opinion.

Breakfast in Beverly Hills

I would suggest that you avoid walters -- work in the same building as walters and always give it another try here and there, but there is something about that just scares me -- don't trust the quality of the food.

For a good traditional breakfest, try Brightons cafe, on the corner of Brighton and Cambden -- if you are into breakfest sandwiches, you can get them to do a mean egg, cheese and meat sandwich on an english muffin, really good breakfest, but not on the menu, you basicallly need to order the fried egg sandwich and have them change stuff around. Also, the farm has a decent breakfest, if you are ok with paying $15 for eggs.

rehearsal dinner recs

looking for any recommendations on where I can throw a rehearsal dinner on a thursday night in November. Would prefer a place with its own private room so that I wouldn't have to rent out the whole restaurant. Santa Monica, Beverly Center area or Beverly Hills ok. Room for about 50 people. Italien or French would work. Looking for a Fish and pasta menu.
Thanks.

rec needed -- indian food near pico and la cienega?

any recommendations for good indian food near pico and la cienega?

Simon LA

trendy -- the food is overpriced and unimpressive.

Empanada Factory on Robertson?

did the sign say when it closes?

Empanada Factory on Robertson?

I think i saw it a couple of days ago --- it is where Al's sandwich shop used to be. If anybody goes please provide an update. looked up their website, they don't have a robertson location listed, but I swear i saw an empanadas joint in that vicinity not that long ago.

Kiyokawa on Robertson

place is real good -- very fresh and solid sushi.

Good Pizza On Pico near La Cienega

sounds like it is worth checking out -- better than papa johns and dominoes? I am literally a stone throw so would be great to have a good neighborhood pie joint.

Good Pizza On Pico near La Cienega

I live up the street from Pizza Mania -- for the past two years it looks like it may have changed owners several times, at one point the selling gimmick was bikini pizza (i think they had girls in bikinis as servers - which isn't the worst gimmic), place seems very suspect even if new ownership. What does the pizza compare to? As a side note for pizza lovers in that area, Vito's pizza does deliver to the pico/La Cienge area.

kosher shawarma [moved from L.A. board]

two suggestions, nagilla meating place has really good shwarma, especially if you get stuffed into the iraqi bread -- they may sell in bulk or party trays or try kosher club, it is sort of like a kosher smart & final -- it is just east of la brea on pico.
