Roadtrip Toronto to Columbus, OH - recs on scenic drive

Don't go out of your way to go to Five Points. I just ate there last week. It is someplace to eat at if you are in the area, not to travel out of your way for. There just isn't that much amazing food in the Ashland/Mansfield area. South Market Bistro in Wooster is good. Thyme the Restaurant in Medina is good. If you just want to drive off 71 and get a quick bite we have an old time drive in called the Ashland Wooster Drive in http://www.yelp.com/biz/ashland-wooster-drive-in-ashland or right next door is Casa Fiesta for Mexican (just a good mexican, not outstanding. I like the Chicken crema I think #67 or close by.)

IF you are going by Cleveland try West Side Market or some place else there.

Another idea if you are willing to go to Holmes County is try Amish food. I like a restaurant in Charm, OH http://www.grandmashomestead.com/ Pleasant drive as well but probably out of your way to get to Columbus.

Great dinner at Momocho [CLE]

I want to try this place so bad! My husband isn't a big Mexican fan. But thanks for sharing the review. I'm thinking he'd really like it if he would just give it a try. I'm a sucker for guac and margaritas.

Malabar Farm Restaurant along I-71 nr Mansfield Ohio

Thanks for the update. I don't get out to eat that often but I'll keep that in mind and try to get back there sometime soon.

Mansfield, Ohio

I agree with this. But I think it is one of the better options close to Mansfield if you don't want to travel for something better. I live in the area and there just aren't a lot of choices for really good food.

Mansfield, Ohio

if you are willing to travel to Wooster, I like South Market Bistro and Broken Rocks Cafe'. In Medina, I like Thyme the Restaurant.

The Cabin is hit or miss for me, more often hit but sometimes I'm disappointed. Oak Park for just a classic prime rib.

I like Doc's near the hospital for a sandwich.

The Japanese steak house is decent. I only eat the hibachi grill but there are often many eating there. - Wokano.

Seriously Now -- Which countertop appliances do you leave out on your counter?

One appliance the Keurig because it is used several times a day. Everything else gets pulled out and put away.

Leaves room for all the paper clutter I like to accumulate. If only I could deal with the paper my kitchen would be impressive.

Reception for a food-obsessed bride in Cleveland

I was also eating at Crop one evening at the chef's table and they were cooking lots of appetizers for a party, so you might want to check what they might offer.

Lunch spot in Toledo / Red Well's?

First it has been over 15 years since I have been to Red Wells. But it is not like Arbys at all. It is more like a cafeteria. No wait staff. They serve traditional roast beef sandwiches on plates smothered in gravy. That you have to eat with a knife and fork. I used to love to get the hash as well as a side for my sandwich. Of course they have mashed potatoes. I remember it being very good. I also remember they used to carve the roast beef right there for your sandwich. I checked a review or two and it looks like that is no longer done. I used to go there for lunch when I worked in the area. Funny thing Arbys would be another of our lunch choices but I never ate the roast beef there. I think I had a salad. There were also some good Lebaneese restaurants in the area but can't remember the names. There is chain in Toledo (I think it is just local to Toledo) called Cafe Maries. It is only open for breakfast and lunch. There are several locations around the city. It mainly serves breakfast dishes but it also serves sandwiches. I would not describe it as something that should not be missed but it is a decent breakfast place.

For chinese I always enjoyed, Jing Chuan.

If you are up for fast food. Rudy's hot dogs! Good coneys.

If you like pizza, try Myles Pizza in Bowling Green.

Again I have not eaten at any of these places in over 15 years.

You'll have to post where you end up. Maybe I'll have a new place to try when I visit home.

Don't know why you are in Toledo but the art museum and zoo are both worth visiting.

Best Restaurants in Northern Michigan and UP?

Cobblestone Bar and Grill in McMillan,MI is really good for burgers. They have a yummy chicken sandwich with pineapple and asiago cheese. Fresh pork rinds as well.

Anything near Macedonia, OH for lunch?

Thank you everyone for your advice. I think I will be picking Hudson for our meeting point. I'll try to post back afterwards and let you know where we ended up.

Cleveland - West Side Market Recs?

I have only been to the market once. But if you like cupcakes, try GRANDMA FREDA'S FRESH BAKE STAND: H-12. Delicious cupcakes, I especially liked a version with peanut butter frosting, really yummy. I also had a crepe , very good. And I love the pasta at Ohio City Pasta, not sure how easy that would be to bring home though.

Anything near Macedonia, OH for lunch?

I am meeting someone I haven't seen for a long time for lunch. And Macedonia is about half way. Anything not terribly far from 271 in that area. I am expecting we will sit and chat for awhile so maybe a pleasant place for visiting is more important than the food. Also is there a nice park or downtown to walk around nearby as well? Thank you for any advice.

Place for lunch in Mansfield, Ohio?

These are more downtown, but I thought it might be helpful for someone else visiting Mansfield.

Not that close to 71, this is very close to Med Central, Mansfield's hospital.

I really enjoy it. They will custom make a sandwich for you. And they have tons of fixins/choices. They also have menu sandwiches. The soup is quite good as well. And cheesecake from a local pastry chef.

I've never been but this place but just learned about this place and want to try it. I think it is also downtown.

If you travel to Ashland, there is Grandpa's cheesebarn right near 71 - Grandpa's Cheesebarn, 668 US HWY 250E, Ashland, Ohio 44805
1-800-745-7091. There is cafe' there. I have never been. But if you like cheese they have lots.

A recent review of Melt Bar & Grilled, Lakewood (Cleveland) Ohio

uhockey, I think I am going to start following you around Cleveland. I must try to get to Melt now. I think you turned me on to Crop and Grandma Freda's cupcakes. Two really great finds. Thank you for writing such wonderful reviews that actually make me want to get to Cleveland to try them!!!

Home Food Program in Italy, anyone know these dishes/recipes?

Don't have a clue about the recipes but sounds amazing!

Revolver Restaurant - Findlay, OH

Thanks for the review. Makes me want to try this place, I love polenta. My dad doesn't live that far from there so hopefully I'll get a chance to try it.

Romantic Restaurant near Berlin, Ohio?

Broken Rocks, good food, good drinks, not romantic as all tables are close together.

South Market Bistro, probably more romantic than Broken Rocks but still not what I think of as romantic, again good food, a little more upscale than Broken Rocks.

Olde Jaol ( a steakhouse) and Tj's both would probably be more romantic.

I've enjoyed meals at all four restaurants.

Mansfield, OH Saturday Night

I have eaten at The Cabin and it is a good recommendation. I have eaten at Athens (it's been a few years), good gyros but more like a diner type atmosphere.

Another option Rocky's Pub is downtown on the square. I haven't eaten there so can't comment on it but it is close if you want to consider it.

There is a great sandwich shop near the hospital. Wonderful sandwiches made to order and delicious soup.

Good luck and report back.

Places to stop between Cleveland and Columbus?

Have you ever eaten at Thyme the Restaurant? I think it is pretty good.

Places to stop between Cleveland and Columbus?

All good suggestions. I really like Hartlers yummy ice cream. I'm guessing this is even a bit out to the way for you.

You weren't looking for a restaurant but just in case this one is very good in Medina and right along the way. They are only open in the evenings though.

http://www.thymetherestaurant.com/

I'm not that familiar with Medina but it seems like there should be something in that town that is quick and easy. I have heard people mention this tea room but I have never been. It may be more what you are looking for. If you go be sure to report back and let us know.

Hong Kong Flower Lounge - still good?

I ate there with friends on October 4th. None of us had ever had dim sum before but we enjoyed it. It was a real experience. The restaurant was very busy, our waitress helped us pick out some dishes to try and we had a bunch. I thought is was very affordable. I don't think the bill was over $50 for the four of us. We were there around lunch time.

Havn't been since '92 [Upper Peninsula of MI]

The cobblestone in McMillan serves up a really tasty burger. I really love a chicken sandwich there with pineapple, soo good. They also make fresh pork rinds. Very good burger type fare.

Sorry if I steered you wrong. My husband and I used to eat at Oak Park fairly often before kids. And we hadn't been there for quite awhile when I wrote the suggestion. Since I recommended it, we did return and it just wasn't the same. I'm not sure if my palate has changed or Oak Park. The meal we had wasn't bad just not as good as I remembered.

If you ever get to Wooster, I like Broken Rocks Cafe'. Maybe I can redeem myself.

I also like South Market Bistro but haven't been there in quite a while.

Malabar Farm Restaurant along I-71 nr Mansfield Ohio

I ate at Malabar Farm over a year ago and nothing left me wanting to go back. Just so-so. But I live fairly close so perhaps I shall give it another go.

I've been to the Cabin just a few weeks ago and it was very good. I had duck with sweet potatoes, it was a nightly special and very good. My husband also took me there for a Mother Day's buffet and it was very good as well. The salads were the real stand out. They were very tasty and more unique than what one finds on one of the typical holiday buffets.

Roast beef hash/Cleveland

If you are ever in Toledo check out the roast beef hash at Red Wells. So good next to one of those famous roast beef sandwiches covered in gravy.
