Garbage Disposal Units - How common are they in the US?

I have never lived in a house without one and I'm 53. Grew up in Boston and lived in the SF Bay Area and SoCal for the last 25 years.

So did you just wear the stain ?

Not me but my husband. Wine tasting in Napa wearing a white shirt. 3rd stop of the day. Got too aggressive with the swirl and ended up wearing some of Duckhorn's finest cab. Didn't phase him for a second. I would have had to go to the hotel to change.

Is it pointless to buy an expensive knife if I sharpen/hone with a electric Chef's Choice 120?

I have a very nice set of Wusthof knives that I have had for quite a while and I sharpen them with a chefs choice sharpener. They are still in great shape.

I am clumsy so sharpening manually for me would be a recipe for disaster. Sending them out for sharpening seems like a good idea but it's not the kind of thing I would remember to do until I go to use them and realize that they are getting dull. I know the chefs choice is not the preferred method but it does work well in my experience. Maybe buy one knife and give it a test drive and see what you think.

What are some ingredients you don't like to use?

Cilantro. I hate it and I can't eat any dish that has it. It's easy to substitute for it at home but more problematic at restaurants.

Downtown choices; what do you think?

We had a great meal at Vic and Anthony's. Wonderful service and excellent food. Highly recommend but make a reservation.

New Report on Non-Stick Cookware

Thanks for the link. I'm in the market for some new cookware and have been leaning toward stainless. I think I've made up my mind.

Fried Chicken Assistance

If I have large pieces that brown before the interior is cooked, I finish them in the oven. Works out quite well to the point that it is my go to method now.

Giant Dave & Buster's Opening in Pelham Manor!

I've been to both the Milpitas CA and Honolulu locations. The food is horrific and the service is worse. Think Chilis or Friday's but worse. It's fine if you have kids and they want to play the games. You can have a drink while they play and then eat elsewhere.

How to shop for / select major kitchen appliances?

Having done several remodels, I would say to narrow down the features that are most important to you and start there. You can eliminate a lot of models that way because a lot of them have all kinds of bells and whistles that may not be important to you. Consumer reports is a great source to help you gauge reliability.
Double ovens are fantastic if they will fit in your budget. If you can get the top one to be a convection oven even better. If it turns out a single oven or a range is where you end up budget wise you can always do a Breville or some other countertop oven as a supplement.

Kissimmee recommendations for a special and daring kid

I don't have any restaurant recommendations for you. I just wanted to wish you and your family well during what I am sure is a very stressful time.

Any rec's for a steakhouse in Reno ??

We have been to the Washoe Grill a few times. My suggestion is to sit in the bar. The main dining room is a little tired. The food is ok but I think they are known for the prime rib. My ribeye was just OK. I wouldn't rush back.

Any rec's for a steakhouse in Reno ??

Charlie Palmers Steakhouse inside the Grand Sierra Resort is excellent. Also Sterlings Steakhouse inside the Silver Legacy. We just had dinner there Friday night. Top notch service and really great food. It was very crowded so a reservation is a must.

I've heard good things about the Cactus Creek Steakhouse but have not been.

We have also enjoyed the steakhouses at Circus Circus and John Ascuaggas Nugget.

Do you use your stove for storage ?

We know someone who is a police officer who stored his gun in the oven since he never cooked. His new girlfriend came over and unaware of the situation, turned the oven on to preheat. When the officer realized what was going on, he ran over and pulled the firearm out and when it hit the cold granite, it discharged and the round went through the ceiling. Thankfully no one was hurt.

I laughed myself into an asthma attack but his superiors didn't find it so amusing and an investigation ensued. Everything turned out fine when they realized he is just an idiot. The people upstairs moved about a month later coincidentally.

What's new & good in Huntington Beach or nearby?

Zimzala inside the Shorebreak Hotel is good. They have a great happy hour and it's fun people watching from their second floor deck.

Fish Camp in Sunset Beach has excellent fresh fish. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Nice casual atmosphere and a pretty good wine list too.

Several Oahu restaurant questions

We had a great meal at Alan Wong's. The food and service were spot on. My only (small) gripe is that the ambiance felt more Manhattan to me than Hawaii. With that being said, I would return at every opportunity and get my island fix elesewher

North Lake Tahoe Happy Hours

There is a new pizza place in downtown Truckee called Pizza Bar. I've been there twice and food and service were excellent. I know they have a good happy hour. I don't remember the details so you might want to check with them. They also own the Mexican place next door that is very good as well.

Recipes perfect for leftover freezing

Chili and pulled pork come to mind. I also do a veggie soup that had ground turkey and eggplant that is delicious and freezes beautifully.

Hot Air Fryers

I have been following a t-fal hot air fryer on Amazon waiting for the price to drop. It's now down to $159.99 from $249.99 and has pretty good reviews. They tested one on The Chew and the results were quite good. The food looked good enough to make me want to pull the trigger and it was amazing the difference in calories from traditionally fried foods.

Trying to find Kaiser rolls

I was thinking the same thing. I'm also from the east coast and found the kaiser rolls from the Safeway bakery to be the closest to what I remember.

Where to buy Buffalo Wings for Super Bowl party?

Check Costco for uncooked, seasoned wings. Don't remember the price but I know they were considerably cheaper than what you listed. They were available at my Reno, NV location this past weekend.

Leftover Week

I did that the first 2 weeks of this month and I was amazed at how many meals I was able to put together. There are 3 of us so a few times we weren't all able to have the same thing due to the portion size of what was frozen. For the most part, I just served them as they were since I was kind of burned out after the holiday cooking. It was great because we saved a ton of money, made my life easier and nothing went to waste.

new refrigerator

We just built a new house and we ended up with an LG French door counter depth refrigerator. I have been very happy with it. Lots of ways to configure the shelves etc, nice LED lighting, all the bells and whistles.

This is the first time I have had a counter depth fridge and while it's more than sufficient for the everyday needs for the 3 of us, when my large family came for the holidays I definitely needed the fridge in my garage for the overflow.

Ice Water in Restaurants

Just because it's cold doesn't mean you won't get thirsty. I live in the Sierra where it's cold all winter too but I do like to have something to drink when having a meal.

Cooking Resolutions

Recently ran into some financial obstacles so I want to really stick to a food budget. I also want to make an effort to use up what I've already purchased instead of deciding I want something else and running to the store on a whim.
