NY style eggrolls in L.A.? Not at Genghis Cohen!

I've posted this before, Wings in Yorba Linda has pretty authentic NY Egg Rolls and the restaurant is a throwback to 1960's NY Chinese Restaurants. I usually get 6 orders (12) and freeze them. I've never dissected them but they seem to have all the key ingredients and the wrapper is perfectly fried.

Langer's vs. Katz's and One Other LA vs NY Observation

Last time I was at Langers I was very disappointed, Pastrami was dry and tasted more like Corned Beef. I've been to Katz's hundreds of times (last time about 2 years ago) and never had a bad sandwich. Pizza is actually more subjective - thick, thin, toppings etc. Patsy's in East Harlem, L&B Spumoni Gardens and many neighborhood pizza places are better than Johns on Bleecker and Joes or the Million or so Original Rays.

NY Style Chinese food in LA?

Try Wings in Yorba Linda, I've been going there for Egg Rolls for 10 years now and usually pick up a dozen at a time about $20. When you walk in you will be whisked back to 1960's New York on Sunday Night, menu has all the old style dishes including combo dishes. If you're truly looking for Old School NY Chinese this is it. I no longer have to bring egg rolls rom NY when I travel.

Watsonville?

I will be staying in Watsonville for Historics Race Weekend and would like a recommendation for Dinner. We already have plans for 2 of 3 nights. A few years ago we ate in great place that was located in a Medical Plaza Building, go figure. Does anyone know which restaurant it was. We are not looking for Mexican food.

Getting desperate for 50's Chinese food!

Try Wings in Yorba Linda
18553 Yorba Linda Blvd
It's like going in a Time Machine back to 1950's or 60's including menu, decor and waiters. The Egg Rolls are the best outside of NYC and it's quite reasonable.

Excellent Pizza in OC?

Antonucci's is very good but the best NY Style is Rocco's in Mission Viejo at The Kaleidescope Center on Crown Valley & I 5. Superb White Pizza and any type is available by the slice.

What is Big O to Go? I've lived here for almost 20 years and never heard of it?

REVIEW: Angelo's Coal Oven Pizza

Patsy's on 117th and First, it's worth the trip. Whole Large Pie in 8 minutes and absolutely delicious. Better than Lombardi's. Grab a cab, order on way, run in and head back to work.

Carnegie Deli or Katz's?

Katz's, the Pastrami is always fresh and hand cut not sliced on a machine.
Tip the counterman and you will receive an ample sample of what's in store.

Good Dinner Place in Philly Area?

Any recommendations for a good dinner spot near Philly Airport or on way to Lancaster?
Seafood, Italian or good local fare.
Also, which is best Cheesesteak place these days?
Appreciate any help with this as I'm driving from Airport to Lancaster and would like a good meal before I hit Amish country.

End of the Great NY Eggroll Debate. And the winner is.......................

Went to see the Jersey Boys in LA this summer and finally went to Genghis Cohen, Eggrolls were fine probably a tossup with Wings. I haven't been to Wings in past year so they may have changed something. My Mother in Law just came to visit from Brooklyn with 6 of NY's finest and now I need a good bowl of Wonton Soup to complement it. It's odd but Hot & Sour Soup is excellent in most places but Won Ton not so much, usually filling is laying in soup because skins are so thin.

End of the Great NY Eggroll Debate. And the winner is.......................

Glad you had an opportunity to taste a Wings Egg Roll, I find that Duck Sauce is usually absent in most Chinese Restaurants here, we buy it at Vons in Kosher section. I usually just dip in Hot Mustard. Sorry you were disappointed but I've had Egg Rolls in at least a hundred different restaurants in So Cal and this is without a doubt the best but I will try Genghis Cohens next time I'm in LA. Where are they located?

NY Style Egg Rolls... SO CLOSE... but not quite.

Wings Restaurant in Yorba Linda, Orange County is a REAL NY Egg Roll. I buy a dozen at a time and freeze them. You won't be disappointed, they even have the grease from frying. I used to bring them back from NY on my business trips and they permeated the clothes in my luggage. Try it and let me know, this is a throwback Chinese Restaurant from back in the day.

An open letter to fellow 'hounds who recommended Canton Kitchen as providing egg rolls comparable to those found in the New York metro area

Too bad you never got chance to eat at Manhattan Wonton Company but their Won Ton Soup was superb (tight wrapped won tons, great broth same ingredients as NYC) Chow Fun was delicious and Egg Rolls were also good. Sadly, it didn't last long.

End of the Great NY Eggroll Debate. And the winner is.......................

If you want authentic NYC Egg Rolls, I've searched for 17 years, the winner is Wings in Yorba Linda (Orange County) off 91 Freeway. This is a trip back in time to 50's and 60's NYC Chinese Restaurants (Crispy Noodles, Duck Sauce, Chow Mein with Bean Sprouts etc.) and I pick up a Dozen at a time every month. I consider myself an Egg Roll fanatic and on business trips to NY usually load up a dozen or so from a place in Queens near JFK.
