Lack of Kosher Yogurt

I just purchased one of each flavor of Rachel's yogurts at Fairway. It's one of the best yogurts I have tried in quite awhile. Stonyfield is also a very good choice.
Krinos yogurt is delicious, but I bought it only to taste, since, as you mentioned, the fat content is prohibitive.
Mehadrin yogurts are just as good as the J & J, especially the strong coffee flavor.

Avi and David's

I read about Avi and David's on this board and finally had the chance to try the place out. I was quite impressed with the entire operation. It is a small place, seats about 15, very clean, lots of menu choices. My wife and I tried a few things like the make your own wrap, split pea soup and coffee. They were all delicious. I even brought home sandwiches for my kids, who were thrilled, as well. All in all, this is a place that I would recommend and I hope it does well. It's opened 24 hours, except for Shabbat.

Parve dessert for a bbq

How about jello in some nice, clear dessert dishes? I either make them in ice cube trays and then add the cubes into the dishes or actually pour the jello directly into the dishes. Add some canned pineapples or mandarin oranges while it's setting. They look really nice floating inside of the jello. Top it off with non- dairy whipped topping, which is even available in spray cans.

Looking for tasty baked goods...

They are located on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. I know they make deliveries to Manhattan. I would call and ask if they'd deliver to your area.

Looking for tasty baked goods...

Fresh fruit pies(actually made with fresh fruit, not canned, though they have that, too), moist cupcakes, large cakes and danishes, apple charlotte, mini tarts.....I can go on and on. I've said this many times, I really believe that Chiffon's bakery puts a lot of effort not only into the look of their products but the taste and quality can't be beat. I don't think I have ever bought a dry or awful cake there.

Yolato anyone?

Has anyone tried Yolato? It's a gelato place located at 168W 27th St. Is it clean? Is it good quality gelato, or does it taste like sorbet or just plain old ice cream?

Domani

Yes, it is a big loss. I ate there with a group of friends a week before they closed. We spoke with the owners who didn't let on that they were planning on closing but did mention how slow business was lately.

Kosher in Brooklyn Fairway?

Just a friendly warning about their bakery. I have been buying some interesting pastries there every few weeks, since they've opened. The bakery always kept the kosher items on one side. Last week, I stopped by the "kosher side" of the bakery and starting choosing a few items. I was very lucky that the gentleman who was serving me noticed that I was probably a kosher-eating consumer and informed me that many of the items in that showcase were coming from an outside source, which wasn't kosher. These items were mixed in with the kosher items. Many customers, even those who buy there on a regular basis, may not have noticed this. Please be sure and check that the flag labeled with the hashgacha is located within the area of the items that you are planning to buy or ask just to make sure. I tried to reach the Rabbi a number of times to inform him of this problem but I am always told he isn't in or to call the Harlem store to reach him. I am hoping someone will be able to reach him and let him know.

What Happened to Pizza Time?

Pizza Time closes for 2 weeks every summer. I checked today and they were still closed. They should be opening some time this week, if they are keeping to their usual vacation time.

Kosher bakery Queens/Brooklyn

I know that you requested a bakery in Queens but I have to say that it's worth a trip to Brooklyn to order one at Chiffon's on Coney Island Avenue. The quality of the cakes are consistantly fresh and good. I have found that many bakeries in Brooklyn make beautiful looking cakes but the taste of the cake leaves a lot to be desired and the cake itself is usually dry. The birthday cakes at Chiffon's are always fresh and moist, and look nice too. I made a large Bat Mitzvah party for my daughter in May and ordered all of the cakes from there. There were no complaints, only compliments.

Garden of Eat-In

I am so sorry to hear you had a bad experience there. I don't believe that they are under new management. I was just there last week and the same owners are still there. I have been buying the special of the day, one day a week, for the last few weeks and have found the food to be as good as always.
About the rolls, yes, many times they aren't fresh. Luckily, the counter person up front, usually tells me that when I am ordering take out. I usually just pass on them. They seem to not always get a daily fresh delivery of rolls.
I had breakfast there a few weeks ago with a friend and the waitress was complaining about how overworked she was. That might account for the bad service. When the wait staff feels taken advantage of and unhappy, we as the customers usually feel it in the service or the food. I hope you mentioned something to one of the owners. It is always important to report bad food or service. Sometimes the restaurants get so busy that the owners don't take notice about certain changes since they are so busy with other things.
This has always been a favorite place of mine. I hope that your experience will not become the norm.

Best Kosher Bakery In Brooklyn?

Have you noticed a change at Weiss bakery lately? I used to buy there on a regular basis but haven't been as satisfied with the quality of what I have purchased. I've heard rumors of a change of ownership and that some of the baked goods are coming from other bakeries. Any opinions?

Falafel Stop on Avenue J

I was wondering if anyone has tried this new falafel place. I received the menu by my door the other day and noticed that they have a wonderful selection of falafel flavors that I have never seen before. I would like to know if the place is clean and well kept and if there is anything especially good to try.

Mail order Kichel

I stopped off at Chiffon's bakery on my way home from work tonight and I spoke with the owner. He said that you should call him and he can definitely ship kichel overnight to wherever you need. Their number is 718-258-8822.
Just as a side note, they make the most delicious whole wheat kichel that are thin and crisp, in addition to the regular kinds.

How is the food at the hotel the Farbreng inn, in Richmond Virginia? http://www.farbrenginn.com
Is it decent/great/horrible?
Also, if you have been there, just to know since I am considering staying there for a day or two, how nice and clean is it? Is it a beautiful place? Nice service? But the most important thing to me is, if it's clean!

Appetizing Stores in Manhattan

Zabar's sells their own lox prepackaged with a hashgacha, which happens to be delicious.

Canned Salmon

It is so moist, it can be eaten straight from the can. A favorite at my home are salmon burgers. I mash a few cans of salmon with eggs, black pepper, corn flake crumbs, onions and celery. I make them into patties and fry them in olive oil.

Canned Salmon

I was a dedicated fan of Heinz vegetarian baked beans. Once I tried Bush's, I haven't gone back to Heinz. My entire family agrees.
Just a note to those who have never purchased Bush's, you must be sure that the can you're buying says "vegetarian" since their other flavors are not kosher.

Canned Salmon

Unfortunately, BJ's doesn't carry as many kosher brands as Costco. In general, I find the selection of all food items to be more varied at Costco.

Canned Tuna

I agree with PapaT. Though, Dagim and Gefen have definitely produced better products than were available years ago, including their canned tuna and salmon. The one benefit to King of the Sea tuna is that it is supposed to have one of the lowest mercury levels.

Domani or Tevere 84, in NYC

My wife and I had lunch at Domani yesterday and really enjoyed ourselves. Let me tell you what we had: We shared an appetizer of portabella mushrooms in a wine sauce with herbs, which was quite tender and delicious. I had the vegetable soup which was not too thick nor too watery and it was filled with vegetables and loaded with flavor. As the main dish, my wife had the beef ravioli which was plentiful and was cooked in a thick meat sauce. I had the pollo alla Florentine, which was a nice sized chicken breast cooked in a white wine and lemon sauce. We shared the Tiramisu for dessert. I thought that the cream was quite good. If it were less thick, it would not have been the dessert it was meant to be. The service was wonderful. The waiter was quite attentive and did not make us feel pressured, as some of them do. I am hoping that you might give them another chance with some different dishes.

My post was listed twice

Unfortunately, I have been having a problem all day with my internet service. I posted a message on the koshser boards less than a half hour ago and it listed twice. How can I get one of the post removed?

La Creperie

I was hoping to hear some reviews on this dairy restaurant in Upper Manhattan. I'm not a big meat fan, so when I hear of a new dairy place, I'd like to give it a try.
