Where to find brioche?

I know its farther north, but the Swedish Bakery sells brioche.

Good chow off I-90 from Chicago/Cleveland?

Will be roadtripping to Cleveland next week from Chicago, and looking for decent dining options along the way, something outside of your typical chain restaurants. Any hidden gems off the highway in Indiana perhaps? Any type of food is welcomed. Thanks!

So Many Burgers - So Little Time (Las Vegas)

I've only been to Stripburger(great), Cheeseburger Las Vegas (decent enough), and Burger Bar (I thought way overrated, but people on this board seem to love it, so draw your own conclusions). I'd definitely go back to Stripburger! I

postrio, enoteca san marco or canletto?

I too have also only been to Enoteca (just last Thursday). It was wonderful!! We shared a cheese plate appetizer, which came with sides of truffle honey, stewed cherries & something else I can't remember (but enjoyed) to accompany the cheese--delicious! I had a pizza margherita, with a tasty fire-oven-baked crust. My dining companions had the braised pork and the veal meatballs, both of which I sampled. I would highly recommend.

teppanyaki las vegas

I've been to Hyakumi in Caesars Palace a couple of times. The prawns and filet they used were wonderful, and of high quality. The portions are pretty big--one time I split one teppanyaki order/serving with my sister, and we both still ended up stuffed.

Chow worthy spots near Hilton in Las Vegas

Agreed--I really liked ENVY. Great steak, great sides, great cocktails.

Ribs near Wrigley

While I have not yet tried the ribs, there's some decent BBQ to be had to Sheffields (3258 N. Sheffield Avenue, a few blocks dues south of Wrigley)

A new angle on the deep dish question..

Uno's and Due's not only have goose island on tap, but they make their own brew (Uno's Amber, I belive it is called?) I always get the hosue brew when I am there. If you like Fat Tire, I think you would like Uno's Amber (or any number of goose island brews).

An Expat’s Dining Survival Guide to Tulsa Updated 9-2007

Another Tulsa ex-pat chiming in. I was in town over the weekend, and dined Friday night at the Local Table. Good stuff, and decent wine list. I had the most tender black pepper-crusted steak sandwich ever! My brother and sister-in-law both had steaks which looked and smelled very good. My husband had the creole meat loaf, which was very spicy and tasty, but it was accompanied by some rather bland mac & cheese.

Sunday we had brunch at La Villa at the Philbrook. One word: outstanding! Elegant but not stuffy, great egg dishes, wonderful bacon, crisp waffles and tasty biscuits and gravy. The fruit was fresh (especially for January!), and the grilled veggies fantastic. My only regret was that I did not get to sample every single item on the buffet (The prime rib looked wonderful, as did the salmon). I live in Chicago, and take my brunch VERY seriously, and this is hands-down one of the best brunches (buffet or no) I have ever had.

That would be the Chopping Block: http://www.thechoppingblock.net/

Mandatory tip at Alhambra Palace?

I was there last Friday night, and it does say on the menu that there is a mandatory 20% gratuity added for parties that dine while the live entertainment is going on (I forget the exact wording, but my husband pointed it out right away).

But I agree--the entertainment was nice, but food was WAY overpriced.

Wedding: Catering Help

I ended up having a hotel reception, so we had to use in-house(which ended up being surprisingly good!), but I WOULD have gone with Catering By Michaels (http://www.cateringbymichaels.com) --I've used them several times for work (fundraising events), and they are great to work with and decently priced. Their web site indicates that they do cater at a New Leaf (a beautiful space by the way!)

Non-steakhouse steak in Vegas?

Mon Ami Gabi at Paris

heading to vegas for 5 days - what restaurants are not to be missed?

If you're at the Wynn, I'd suggest StripBurger over Burger Bar--it's right across the street at fashon Show Mall (Outside of Cafe BabaReeba)--great atmosphere, outstanding food and drink!

Outside Dining in Las Vegas

I second the recs for both Mon Ami Gabi and Strip Burger!! They are not to be missed.
Also, just as FYI, Tao is great, but dining there doesn't always guarantee free entry into club right after...especially on weekends when the outside lines are crazy long. I've seen more than a few people get escorted from their dining tables, straight out the door and instructed to wait in line with everyone else.

Pre-dinner drinks in Las Vegas?

The bar at Mix at THEHotel at Mandalay Bay--top floor, outdoor patio, GREAT views of the strip! Early evening is the time to go--you can sit outside at the lounge tables (couches/coffee tables) without having to go the bottle service route.

frozen mail order chicago style pizzas

I've used Lou Malnatis to send to out-of-town family, and I've heard this has worked out well (comes quickly, good quality,e tc.). My friend recently had a horror story of an experience w/ Giordano's (UPS leaving it in its warehouse overnite, etc.)--it may have only been a one-off type of situation, but FWIW, I've always been pleased with Lou's.

Best burger in the south suburbs?

I second Top Notch in Oak Lawn!

Vegas - from hot dogs to highbrow

Just wanted to add that I meant the ALADDIN, not "Alassin" :)
So happy to hear that Pink's is open again! I'm a Chicago Dog girl, but those Pinks dogs are awesome!

Midnight VEGAS dining options near the Wynn?

You might try StripBurger (across the street from the Wynn, located at Fashion Show mall--right outiside of Cafe Babareeba)--it is a new outdoor restaurant, and they are open til 2am on Sundays. Good food & cocktails, fun atmosphere.

Vegas - from hot dogs to highbrow

Agreed--just got back from a weekend in Vegas, and we had late-late-LATE nite food & drinks at the Peppermill, and it was awesome! The place looks like some awesomely bad disco/80's nightmare (in a good way) and the food was tasty and well-priced.

As for hot dogs--not sure if its open yet, but the Sports Lounge at Planet Hollywood is being renovated into "Pink's Sports Lounge" and will serve Pink's hotdogs (from LA). When it was still the Alassin, they served Pink's dogs in the coffee shop, and they are mighty good.

Best Cocktails in Vegas

If you like Martinis, try Red Square in Mandalay (unless you are purely a Gin Martini person)--their vodka selection is unbelievable! The surface of the bar is coated in ice, so it keeps drinks cold.

For margaritas, the best I've had are at Isla located in the Treasure Island. As many tequilas as Red Sqaure has vodkas.

Stripburger??? Vegas

We stopped in at StripBurger over the weekend, and I thought it was great! We only had apps, and I loved the deep-fried pickle chips--nice & crispy. I hadn't realized that this place is only a few weeks old. It is a GREAT outdoor space with enough shade & misters to keep us cool on a 108-degree day. The cocktail menu was a bit more creative than your run-of-the-mill martinis--I had a vodka lemonade that was served with 2 sprigs of rosemary in the glass, which added a certain depth of flavor one wouldn't normally expect.

Next time I'm in Vegas, I'm definitely going back!

nontraditional guacamole ingredients

I have a low-fat recipe that calls for adding in a cup of pureed thawed frozen peas. I actually like the fresh green taste it adds, so I tend to add them in all the time! (Although I will say that not everyone shares my preference)

Girls-only Vacation to Vegas - Recs please!

I'll be there with my thirty-something married girlfriends next week as well! I would take the monorail up to Flamingo, and then cross over to Caesars Palace and go to BOA in the forum shops--great food AND people watching. Fix at Bellagio is good as well. If you don't mind venturing further north, try the tapas at Cafe BaBareeba at the Fashion Show Mall (north of Treasure Island). We have a reservation at Tao in the Venetian, which you could also do in your price range (if you don't have too many martinis, that is).

Dining solo in Las Vegas and on a budget.

I may be in the minority here, but I enjoyed the Teppan Yaki dinner we had at Hyakumi at Caesars Palace. It wasn't too "Benihana" for me, and the tiger shrimp were really fresh and the filet mignon was super tender. The fixed price was around $50 if I recall correctly.

Any food/convenience/liquor stores very near the Bellagio?

I know there is a CVS located south of the Bellagio (it is really closer to Monte Carlo, but still walkable). While I cannot remember s specific liquor store per se, I know last time I was in Vegas, we were able to purchase bottles of vodka somehwere in the many strip-mall-type places close by.

Yet another vegas q

Meant to add to my previouus post that FIX would probably suit your needs as well--that's where I had one of my bachelorette dinners, and the food was great! We had mini-kobe burgers w/ frites for apps, I had seabass for our entree and the dessert was freshly-made, piping hot mini-donuts with peanut butter & chocolate dipping sauces. The restaurant itelf is set up a bit higher than the casino floor, which it overlooks, so the people watching is great! It can get a bit loud; though, to be fair, I've heard the same about N9NE. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Yet another vegas q

I haven't yet been to N9NE, but my husband was there last year for his bachelor party, and says it was a GREAT scene, as well as the best steak he's ever had. We're also big fans of BOA in the Forum Shops.

las vegas group dining abt. $25 pp, ON THE STRIP

Not sure about reservations, but try calling Gonzalez Y Gonzalez at New York New York-It's a small mexian place that could probably seat you all if you called ahead. We went there one night for my bachelorette party last summer, and there were 10 of us. You could do $25 per person (not counting drinks) easily.

But I agree, other than mexican, you're going to have a tough time on the strip with that kind of price limit.
