Looking for a good lunch spot in Somerville
there are 4 of us, maybe 5... price per person: about $30-40ish, including a drink or two?
Looking for a good lunch spot in Somerville
do they have entrees or just sandwiches? It's a company holiday lunch so we would like something a little more than sandwiches.
thanks for the rec though!
Looking for a good lunch spot in Somerville
My coworkers and I are doing a Taza Chocolate factory tour which starts at 4pm.
We want to have a nice lunch before, probably 2-3:30... any recommendations for something in union square or close enough to the Taza (561 Windsor Street, Somerville).
Any type of cuisine is okay...just looking for recommendations.
Thank you!
My Martini Wine & Bistro in Arlington

if I have enough time on wednesday after my meeting maybe i will rent a car and venture out of arlington.
Northeastern U

I'm a lover of all kinds of food but being from the Northeast I would like to try something authentic to the city. (they're servince authentic Texas BBQ at the event)
thanks.
Need recommendation for dinner tonight - South Boston area
Looking for something new and exciting...something within decent price range.
I have a friend that just moved to the area and she's interested in checking out something yummy.
Nothing to eccentric....
any suggestions would be apprecatied.
Border Cafe - Route 1
Noticed this place has moved from next to the Hilltop to new plaza housing Trader Joe's...
Is the management the same? food the same?
LOVE Border Cafe but haven't had a chance to make it to the new location...
any feedback?
Fish Shack in Rockport?
i'm from the area and i've never heard of it...sorry
where is it located? on the neck?
Current consensus on best "everyday" sushi?
yup...i second this.
Kame is where I go for sushi on the north shore and I highly recommend it.
visiting sf from toronto - where to eat?
i've never been but have always heard that Boulevard is great!
Better than you make it
this one comes to mind because I'm stumped on what they do differently than me but theirs is just so much better!
Mango Salsa ... i love it on chicken or fish or just as a refreshing snack in the summertime with chips. I make a really good one but...
Uncle Pete's Hickory Ribs has an AMAZING mango salsa that is to die for! I know, a rib joint making mango salsa. Trust me it's worth going just for that! well, yea, the ribs are great too but that's a whole other topic starter.
dimsum at China Pearl in Quincy (Kam Man mall)
Good to know... The last time we went to china pear in chinatown we were pretty disappointed but I think it was because we went around 1:30-2pm ish. it's best to get there before or at noon for the best pickings.
I live on the north shore so Quincy is a bit out of the way for me but I hear China Pearl has a location in Burlington as well. Anyone been?
What's your Farmers' Markets verdict?
the farmers market in gloucester isn't that great... and the hours are aweful!
Thursdays from 3:30-6:30. For those of us that work until 5pm and have to commute, we get a very small window of time to head down and check things out.
Would be GREAT if they did it on a weekend morning, would get way more foot traffic and buyers.
Our Eating Tour of San Francisco and Surrounding Cities
oh...the tea at House of Nan King is um... interesting.
and really good!
Places to eat around Union Square?
take the short walk to chinatown and get some authentic dim sum!
that's what we did and we enjoyed it!
Our Eating Tour of San Francisco and Surrounding Cities
DH and I had a great time in San Francisco and the other cities we traveled to during our recent vacation. We ate some GREAT food and found some awesome little places that we can't stop daydreaming about...and yes, we remember what we got at each place because the food was THAT good!
if you in the area of these restaurants, I greatly suggest you stop in and chow down!
San Francisco:
House of Nan King: (Chinatown) score - A
we had the homemade steamed dumplings and mongolian beef
if we had time to go back we would have tried the grilled garlic fish and sesame chicken
Hang Ah Tea Room (Chinatown): score - A
the Dim Sum is AWESOME and cheap! We had the fried shrimp balls, steamed sticky rice with pork, steamed shrimp dumplings, and black bean short ribs. So GOOD! This was the one place we went back to twice!
Taylor's (in the Ferry Building): score - A
we stopped here for a snack mid afternoon since we skipped lunch due the lateness of breakfast. We split an order of garlic fries.... OH MY GOD, so good! Someone near us was eating the Ahi Tuna burger, it looked delicious!
Alioto's (on Fishermen's Wharf): score - D
My relatives own this place so I felt compelled to stop in...the food was nothing special at all but the prices for the food we got were outrageous. Typical tourist trap. We shared half a cracked crab and bay scallop creole dish.
Celia's Mexican Grill (I think this was in San Matteo): score - B
DH got a carne asada burrito the size of texas and I got the carna asada entry which was equally large. Huge portions, great happy hour and stiff drinks. it's a chain restaurant. Our waiter was rude and they took forever to bring our food, we found out later the waiter screwed up the order and had to redo it so it added time to us getting our food.
Sodini's Bar (North Beach): Score - A
I love this place...I go there everytime i'm in town but only for drinks. Never had the food and I heard it's just okay. But the bar is great. Shoutout to Anna the bartender...she makes great drinks and even better jokes! xoxo
Daly City:
In n' Out Burger: score - B
DH got a double double and I got a cheeseburger, we split fries and a shake. It was the first time DH or I ever had In N' Out Burger... he loved it, I thought it was okay. I'm not a big on fast food but i LOVED that the menu only had like 4 things on it. Hamburger, cheese burger, double double, fries and drinks...that's it. oh, and of course, the secret menu
on the way to Monterey:
The Whole Enchilada @ Moss Landing on highway 1: score - A++++
This place is AWESOME! DH got garlic prawns with a smokey chipotle sauce and eggplant, I got shrimp and corn tamale with a lime cilantro cream sauce. DH The food was killer, the drinks were great (house margarita) and it's just a total dive ... with a kewl biker bar in the back! The owner came around and asked us how our meal was and we got talking ... he gave us a tour and befriended us ... it was GREAT. We wanted to go back but didn't make it.
Monterey:
Papa Chevo on Cannery Row (opposite end of the aquarium) Score: A
We ate here for breakfast and both got chirizo, eggs and potato in a whole wheat wrap with homemade salsa verde. OH MY GOD, so good... great breakfast and cheap prices. a definate hidden jewel
Fishhoppers on Cannery Row: Score - C
We went here per a coworker of mine's recommendation. It looked good and they had all their specials layed out at the front door. We both wanted tuna so when we saw all the tuna specials we were excited. We sat down, ordered drinks and appetizers and when the waiter came back to take our dinner order and we both asked for tuna he informed us that they ran out of tuna early in the night. we were totally bummed and both scrambled to find something else on the menu... needless to say we both got something else, me: ceasar salad with grilled prawns and DH got seafood scampi but we weren't thrilled. it was okay... it was a bit pricey too.
Bubba Gumps on Cannery: score - A
we went here after a long day at the aquarium and just had drinks and an appetizer. We got a sampler plate that had a little bit of everything: peel and eat shrimp, hushpuppies, artichoke dip, etc. I got a pomagrante margarita that was out of this world...YUM Great view of the waterfront too!
Hula's Island Grill and Tiki Bar (on lighthouse ave): score: A+++
This was the best meall of the entire trip!!! DH got the wasabi Ahi Tuna special and I thought he was going to pass out because he was so happy, I got the grilled fish tacos and they were AWESOME!!! We also got the hawaiian halibut cerviche and ... well there are NO words to explain how good it was. The drinks were killer too... Blood Orange martini for me and mah tai for DH... FUN, FUN, FUN place...MUST GO
Cibo (near the Doubletree hotel): score - D
worste meal of the trip... my parents recommended this place a million times over so we felt compelled to go. We found out later that management changed recently and the quality of food has gone down hill quickly. DH got clams casino as an app (two of them were bad) and the filet mignon for dinner... overcooked, I got a ceasar salad as an app and it was just okay, I got the swordfish spethini and they were so overcooked they were not edible. for the money, we were bummed we wasted a night there. all we kept saying was "we should have gone back to HULA'S!
Carmel:
Tommy's Wok (mission and ocean): score - A
Dim Sum, we got a bunch of things and they were all really good. Simple outdoor seating and cheap prices. We got alot of food and our bill came to less then $24 for two people.
it was a very yummy vacation...can't wait to go back!
Best lunch in this area?
I'll be visiting SF later this month and DH and I are arriving to early to check into our hotel. We'll most likely drop our things off at the hotel and go in search of lunch...
wondering if anyone has a good lunch suggestion for something in the area of 480 Sutter St, union square area.
I'd like to take DH to a dim sum place (with carts... adds to the fun I think) but we're open to suggestions.
We're east coasters, love good food, hole in the wall places, decent prices, family owned/run places are a plus...
let me know what you've got...
go....
thanks!
Midwest Grill in Saugus (Rt. 1), Reviews?
have you been to fire bull?
why are you not a fan?
dh and are looking to go eat someplace different...we cook at home alot and don't eat out much but it's his bday and i want to try something new. We were thinking of hot pot in Quincy too...
thanks.
Midwest Grill in Saugus (Rt. 1), Reviews?
DH and I are thinking of going tomorrow night...any reviews would be great.
is this the kind of place best attended as part of a group? or okay as a couple?
is there a good Brazilian BBQ place in Peabody?
Thanks in advance.
No reservations Berlin show tonight....
wasn't this episode on already?
I thought I saw a berlin episode on during the New Year's Eve day marathon...or is tonight's a new one?
the one from new year's eve day was in berlin but they didn't get much because the city was under attack and they had to flee....
The " Feasty Boys" Beer, Bacon, Butter and Better don't forget the cheese
I saw a piece of the show and it was horrible....do we really need a show with two overweight guys cooking really fattening food?
don't get me wrong, I love my chicken wings, burgers & fries, fish and chips platters too but with the obesity levels so high do we really need to have this on TV? is it really entertainment?
and why is the TRAVEL channel airing their show?
I don't know...those guys must know someone or someone owed them a favor and put them on TV.
I just change the channel...
"jamie at home"
I think the reason I like him so much is because he food doesn't look perfect...I looks like something I would make at home. I try to make my food look pleasing to the eye when I plate it but sometimes you just can't...a plate of brown lentils with veggies is going to look pretty gross when you put it on a plate no matter what you do. But he's got a very rustic style of cooking and plating...and sometimes that can be messy.
but I get what you are saying...we've been spoiled with looking pictures and shows of pretty and appetizing looking food so when we see something that's not so pretty we turn away from it a bit.
Anthony Bourdain marathon
no...4 episodes are not much of a marathon at all.
and at 9pm on Christmas day...when most of us were exhausted and heading to bed since we had to work the next day!
yea...i was bitter I didn't stay up to watch it.
Your favorite thing to eat in and around Boston at the moment
by far, for me, one of the best eats in Boston!
Gloucester Finds - Pleasant St Tea, Two Sisters, Ned's
I believe Ned's and Alexandria's are sharing the store...i've gone in a few times and they are still making the bread and Ned is selling her things up front. Both are a great asset to Gloucester...
I've heard a few good things about the Pleasant Street Tea Co. but have yet to go in. I'm planning to take a stroll thought downtown this weekend (I live in Gloucester) and will be sure to stop in for a cup of tea or a sandwich.
Alchemy has a great lunch menu that is very affordable. Dinner is on the expensive side but lunch is definately an affordable treat on a saturday or sunday afternoon.
The same goes for Passports...i like it better at lunchtime actually.
Charlie's (on Bass Ave - across from Stop & Shop) has great seafood specials and good quality seafood. always worth a stop...
Jalapeno's is really good too and affordable...and the drinks are GREAT!
I'm not a fan of the Azorean Restaurant. I had terrible service the two times I went and the food (for the price) was kind of disappointing. They have some authentic portugesse dishes but nothing really worth going back for.
if you want to try a good "hole in the wall" place....head to Maria's Pizza near the gloucester train station. GREAT pizza and specials, and seafood too. They have a great "grecian" pizza with sauce, light cheese, some feta, chicken, spinach and mushrooms. VERY good!
What are white anchovies?
these are one of my favorite foods...the only place i've been able to find them in bulk and not super expensive is in San Fran. On the east coast, where I live, they are VERY expensive.
i've never had pickled herring so I can't compare the taste but the white anchovies don't taste like regular anchovies mostly because they are brined in vinegar.
looking for a reasonably priced, delicious restaurant in boston....
Piattini on Newbury Street has great lunch and dinner menu, and (piattini is italian for small plates) great smaller portions of food. It's reasonably priced and the food is always very good.
on Newbury between Fairfield and Gloucester...
