HELP... fingers are burning from cutting jalapenos. Remedies?

ha - Power Talons.

next time I work with a large amount of chile arbol I will definitely wear gloves. I spent an hour YESTERDAY working with them and this morning my hands STILL hurt. oof. they were dried - I had no idea it would be that bad.

usually I can handle fresh peppers fine, jalapenos, etcetera... this was probably the quantity, though!

PDX Restaurant for Large Party

Thank you both ... all of these are great and may work ...! I am having a challenge, it is a sit-down Saturday Lunch or Dinner for AT LEAST 100, most likely more... (my father's retirement party, pretty much leaving the one and only job he's had since college!!) ...meaning kind of a big deal = MANY people...

I'll let you know what we ended up with. 8)

Cheers!

I agree, jeff_pdx... I just started a new post asking if they changed owners (when we used to go weekly it was John Taboada).

We went today, sat down to a table at 12:30. New menu and process was described (you now write down your order like the old dinner menu, checking things off and writing in specials with the thick marker pens). We write down our selections. Another couple then came in, sat at the table next to us. Then another couple came in, said they were four, and sat down.

The server (the only one for the whole place--that is not new) went to the couple that sat AFTER we had finished writing our order and TOOK THEIR ORDER. We then got more agressive and gave the server our order. That couple (that came in after us) were served, ate, paid and left before we were evern acknowledged again.

By this time the couple-that-was-four had been joined by the other couple and orders were taken. At 1:30 that four top was served. We still had not been.

We went to the counter and offered to pay for the 4 cups of coffee we had between us in the last hour. The server just said "take it". She apologized for "the wait", but I am unsure if she really understood why we left.

Fast food exclusive to PNW/Portland?

No Fish Go Fish has the BEST soups, and these small fish (shaped - contain no fish) sandwich-type things-wonderful yummy fillings!! They have carts on Fifth and Main, Fifth and Yamhill, and Fourth and Main downtown.

I have not worked downtown in a couple years... does anyone remember Honkin' Huge Burrito / Shelley's Garden? Are they still around??

favorite school cafeteria food for a party

I was scrolling / reading to see if anyone else said this - my school called them 'wiener wraps'; we also had cheese wraps, the same thing with cheese instead of a hot dog...

Tiny delights of food

the smell of lemon grass in my food processor

the smell when I add the vermouth to my dressing--Holidays' Official Start !

breaking the yolk of my poached egg

the sound (and smell) of frying bacon

watching the 'bubbler' on our home made beer

the sharp tingle in your mouth from a good piece of chocolate

caramelizing a brulee--so satisfying!

making a perfect roux

smiles from recipients of my frosted cut out cookies

the anticipation of the sushi that delivers to our house

getting the text message or phone call saying "Come home, I'm making you dinner"

I'm in Oregon, probably the second most saturated Starbucks market (Seattle up North is where the first opened in 1971); They are becoming a monopoly by catering to the Lowest Common Denominator (the sheep!) that don't know good coffee (frappuccino? what??) and buying up others like Torrefazione (YUM) and Coffee People (eh...).

I prefer to give my business to local (STUMPTOWN!!) and those who know good coffee.

Big Lebowski Party

We've hosted Lebowski parties... obviously the White Russians are a must; Sasparilla root beer, any bar munchies and bowling-alley food... I make cut out cookies, which are frosted with sayings like "Abide", "Nihlist", "Achiever", etc... wear bathrobes, or have everyone dress as their favorite character.

Have fun!!
