Late night eats in Boulder?

I'm going to be in Boulder this week for a few days and will be working some pretty late shifts. I'd like to find a couple of places to grab dinner that are open until at least 12:30am. I'm open to any type of food except for seafood and east asian. Anywhere between Boulder and Longmont would work. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Where is the best Red Velvet Cake?

I got a red velvet cake from Cake Bakeshop in Manhattan Beach for my birthday in April.

http://www.cakebakeshop.com/

It was excellent... dense, moist cake that's on the brownish side of brown-red. Tangy, rich cream cheese frosting that was maybe a touch too sweet, but the combination was delicious. I believe they also sell cupcakes.

Looking for nachos with cheese sauce

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm not talking about the day-glo orange stuff that you get at 7-11 and movie theaters... It's a thinner, white cheese sauce, like the kind you'd get as an order of queso dip with chips.

Looking for nachos with cheese sauce

My wife and I are craving something that we used to get when we lived back east but haven't found a good version here in LA: Nachos with white queso cheese sauce. Not shredded, melted cheese, but liquidy cheese sauce.

Can anyone recommend a place, preferably in the South Bay, Venice, SM or westside, although we will always drive for good food. Thanks in advance!

Creating an LA Sticky -- Your feedback

Excellent point, professor. This should definitely go into the sticky. "Where" and "how far/how much travel time" are paramount if someone asks a question.

Mexican Coke SPOTTED!

The print on the (glass) bottle is in spanish and the "Nutrition Facts" are on a separate label, typically haphazardly stuck on at a wierd angle.

lunch recs in el segundo

Yes, if a salad bar is what you're looking for, go to the WFM on Sepulveda. Nothing else comes close in the area.

I also like Hummus Factory and Chicken Dijon in downtown ES for not-too-bad-for-you quick lunches. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, try Rinaldi's.

Paris Style Pizza

I'm also not sure what you mean by "Paris-style". To me, parisian pizza was distinguished mostly by the wierd toppings that we aren't used to here in the states, like tuna or a whole egg plopped right in the middle.

Yogurberry (Wilshire/Western)

I think Yogurberry is actually a korean chain that is expanding into socal, so their name was picked originally for the korean market. They aren't exactly just making up a "(blank)berry" name to compete with pinkberry.

ISO Breakfast Sun. in Manhattan Beach?

The Kettle has solid breakfasts. I haven't been impressed with Uncle Bill's. The lines are huge on weekends and I didn't think that the food was worth it.

You can also try the Local Yolk in the north end of MB.

Joey's smokin' bbq in Irvine (just opened)

I agree... it is OK. Not stellar, but it's 5 minutes from home (the MB location), so it will suffice for a 'cue fix. If you're looking for top-of-the-line super-authentic, white bread and sweet tea 'cue, this isn't it. But it's not all bad.

I haven't tried them, but I've heard that the burgers there are pretty good as well.

Long Beach Convention Center. Good Places to EAT?

Alegria is good for sangria and tapas. Just a couple of blocks up Pine from the convention center. Plates of tapas are generally <$10 and entrees <$20.

Good chile shop near West LA?[Moved from Home Cooking]

I know that the new Whole Foods in El Segundo has a nice assortment of dried and fresh chiles. Not exactly westside, but you could check the WF in SM.

Excellent! Thanks for the report... I'll need to break my diet and go back one night this week to see how good the water is. :D

Finally went to Tender Greens

Lisa, I agree with your take on Tender Greens. My wife and I love it, and it's our go-to place for a fresh, healthy lunch. It is definitely not a place to go to if you want to get a gut-busting plate full of food. I generally leave satisfied, but with a little room left in my tummy for some dessert. I feel that portions are reasonable given the price and quality of the ingredients.

I personally love the steak plate with mashed potatoes and the spinach salad. yum!

Places to eat in Marina del Rey?

If you're looking for not-too-adventurous-but-good mexican, try Paco's Tacos. It's not in Marina Del Rey, but it's close (2.3 miles according to Google Maps). The food is solid, and the flour tortillas are homemade and DELICIOUS. They also have good margaritas.

From your hotel, drive east down Washington, veer right at the fork (staying on Washington Blvd) and then right on Centinela.

Honey's Kettle Fried Chicken

I'm also in the "won't go back due to bad service" camp. The chicken was pretty good, but not stellar in my opinion (then again, I did live in Atlanta for a decade before moving out here...) The experience that was the final straw is when we walked up to the counter to order, the cashier glanced up at us, and then proceeded to spend literally half a minute finishing her text message on her cell phone before saying a word to us.

When I'm in CC, I head a couple doors down to Tender Greens... now THAT's good eatin'!

Glacier Ice Cream/Gelato in Manhattan Beach

The wife and I went to the new Glacier in Manhattan Beach (Sepulveda between Marine and MB Blvd.) last night. Overall, I was very impressed. They have about 15 or so flavors of ice cream and gelato, all made in house. They also had a handful of frozen yogurt (hard-pack, not soft serve) and sorbet flavors.

I tried the gelato... half bittersweet chocolate and half strawberry. Very tasty. More creamy and ice-cream like than other gelatos I've had. The texture was good and the flavors were great. I judge a gelato place by their fruit flavors. On my first (and only) visit to Crema Dolci in Redondo, I tried their banana gelato, and it tasted like fake banana extract... like the old banana slurpees of my youth! But the strawberry at Glacier was fantastic.

My wife is watching her cholesterol intake, so she got the Valhrona Sorbet. A big thumbs up... it tasted like a bowl of Fudgesicle for grownups!

The ambience inside was nice... lots of seating. Eating outside is possible, but there's no seating and the building is right up against Sepulveda, so there's quite a lot of traffic noise if you do. Clientele was typical Manhattan Beach... teens and parents with young kids.

The only negative mark from me... no free water! Every good ice cream shop should have a water fountain, or a water cooler, or just a pitcher with cups sitting out and available. I always crave a cup of water after eating good ice cream...

But I can't really count that against them. A big thumbs up for Glacier. Next time I will be trying their ice cream...

Original Pancake House

There seems to be significant variation in the "details" between OPH franchises. The one I used to frequent in Atlanta (at Briarcliff and Cheshire Bridge) offered real maple syrup and real cream for your coffee. The one in Redondo on PCH uses half-and-half, and I think they serve fake syrup, though don't quote me on that... I haven't had 'cakes there in awhile.

The meats are great there... as are the hashbrowns. The corned beef hash is excellent.

Los Angeles: Best General Tsos Chicken?

Whew... I was almost afraid to admit it, but since you paved the way I'll also fess up... P.F. Chang's version is quite good. I am also obsessed with their orange peel beef...

Vanilla beer?

The ones that I've had range from actually slightly sweet vanilla tasting beer to having a more subtle vanilla smell and aftertaste, but with a more "beery" taste.

I will try Galco's... I'd heard about it but have never been, and didn't know that they carried beer as well!

Vanilla beer?

Years ago I tried a vanilla ale at a brewhouse in Nashville and the experience was life-changing. I am a vanilla freak, and this beer was just fantastic. Recently while on business travel I found a vanilla stout at a brewpub on the east coast and I am now in obsession mode. Must... find... vanilla... beer.

Does anyone know of any brewhouses that make a vanilla beer in the LA area? Or a beer retailer that sells bottles? I'm in the LAX area, so south bay/westside is preferred, but I expect I'm gonna have to travel for this...

Thanks!
