casual party for 25 brooklyn or queens.need some help!
Have you thought of a brunch reception at Scottadito in Park Slope? My husband and I had our Saturday brunch wedding reception for about 30 people. It was extremely inexpensive and really nice. They have a back garden area (glassed in, so weather is not a problem) that had the most lovely light. The food was simple and delicious and everyone had a great time. The brunch beverage package of unlimited mimosas was only $5 extra per person. I think the brunch was about $30 a person for food only. Check it out. We loved it! http://www.scottadito.com/index.html
new pizza in park slope
The pizza does sound great, but just so you know - it isn't a brick oven, It's a regular high temp oven with brick around the sides just for looks! Ah, what a place needs to do to get attention from foodies!
Help! My boss asked for dinner recs near The Barclay Hotel on East 48th
Try Cafe Linda on east 49th between Lex and 3rd. Very nice Place.
Cinema on 45th between 5th and Madison is nice too.
The Islands -- as great as ever...
The Islands is fantastic. They are moving later this year...just a few blocks. I think it may give them more room for dining...which would be great for them. Such a gem in Prospect Heights. Marilyn is the soul of the community!
Midtown office Christmas party....Help?!
We're trying to find a great restaurant for our 2007 office christmas party. We've reserved a private room at Django for the past two years...which has been great....but we're looking for a change. We don't need to stay in midtown, anywhere below 60th is fine. There are usually between 15-20 people, we have a sit down dinner, and we do like our drinks!!! Budget is between 40-100 per person. We're all adventurous diners and we like a private room because it allows us to relax. Suggestions?
Christmas in Salem
My boyfriend and I have reserved a place in Salem for our Christmas vacation. I love the area - grew up nearby- but it has been a while since I've been back and I'm not too up to date on the dining scene. I need a bit of advice.
1. Where's a good place for supper on Christmas Eve? What's good and open? We're praying to celebrate with a lobster dinner!
2. We'll be taking lots of side trips on the coast. What places are great picks for real, delicious New England food?
3. I'd love to have a meal somewhere historic. We may try the Salem Cross Inn near sturbridge this fall...any other spots with a similar vibe?
I'd love to show him the best of my favorite place in America. He's English and has never been there!
Thanks a bunch!
Butcher shop for ...kidneys!
Wow! They close at six. :( I'll go tomorrow and report back on the wild world of chops and chitlin'!
My Aussie coworker told me that if the pud goes over well, she'd like to place an order.
Talk about a cottage "pie" industry.
Sorry. I couldn't help myself.
Butcher shop for ...kidneys!
Ha! Ha!! I'm the daughter of a wholesale meat distributor and the descendant of a long line of old-school NY butchers! The things I've seen! It's good to know there are others who know too much about such things.
What's flying pigs?
Butcher shop for ...kidneys!
Thanks so much! I'll swing by Ottamanelli's on the way home tonight.
Reminds me of an article I read about how it is impossible to find leaf lard these days.
Distinctly New York eateries?
I agree with the nod to Keens. So historic...you'll be torn as to whether you want to explore the place or have a lingering martini in the gorgeous bar. Expensive, sure, but there are a lot of steakhouses out there...why not go for Edith Wharton old New York at Keens instead of the umpteen new guard?
The Islands in Prospect Heights is just terrific. On Washington Ave, right across from the Brooklyn Museum, you'll find a tiny place tucked between Key foods and a Chinese takeout. Step through the year-round Christmas lights and two sweet ladies will cook the best jerk, curry, pepper pot, everything - that you've had! It's like being in your beloved auntie's kitchen. Get the take out (wait service is slow and the place is tiny) and grab a few Ginger Beers from the cooler. I promise you'll like it.
If you travel to Queens for some Greek, check out Agnati at Ditmars near Astoria Park. A bit off the path, but the food is incredible and the view of the park is just lovely.

Hey chowhounds! I'm planning to make steak and kidney pudding for my Brit boyfriend. Anyone know where I can get lamb/beef kidneys and suet?
Not my usual grocery list...below 42nd street is preferred.
Thanks!
Lunch in Northampton?
It's a great choice for Lunch.
Nice ambience and good value vegetarian: Paul and Elizabeth's
Delicious and inexpensive Mexican: La Veracruzana
Sushi and Chinese: Teapot
Pizza: Pinnochio's, so many great choices.
Pizzaria Paradisio is a classic too.
Buon Apetit!
Great Happy hour Food...Midtown!
I usually get out of work around 6 pm, at 47th and 5th, and am wondering where I can go for a nice bit of happy hour drinks and nosh. Yodo closed 2 years ago, and McCormick and Schmitt stops their HH at 6! I'm at a loss. Oysters? Sushi? Sliders? It's a little weekly indulgence I miss so much! Any suggestions from the gang? Suggestions for the West Village and Chelsea area...or Park slope....that go to 8 are also welcome. They are on my route home.
Danka!!
good supper food somewhere near west 51st and 5th
A nice supper choice is Le Bonne Soupe, I believe on 54th between 5th and 6th. Delicious, omelet, fondue, salads and more at very nice prices. The florentine omelet is my favorite - - with salad and bread only $12.95... great soups too!
