Ristorante Olive(Olivio) Nero in Venice
Hello,
Does anyone know the address of Ristorante Olive Nero in Venice?
Much Appreciated!
Is there any place like Moto's or El Bulli
I think that restaurants like Alinea in Chicago need to be looked at. Chef Achatz creates dishes that are certainly "molecular gastronomy," but it is definitely all about the ingredients. To sat that it is a polar opposite of California cuisine is not totally true. Maybe the restaurants that have attempted this in this area have just done so poorly.
gnocchi
Be sure to "test" the gnocchi by cutting off a little piece from the dough and cooking it. It will tell you a lot about what the dough needs without cooking the whole batch. If the dough starts to break apart while boiling, add some more flour. Also, try some cake flour in the recipe too.
Dinner for 20 in San Jose
We just did a party at E&O Trading Co. It was pretty good, a good variety of food and not that expensive.
Check Please! Bay Area.
Interesting, I've never heard some of this about the show...still, I find it entertaining...really good people watching too...
Pres a Vi Report
I was very underwhelmed with Pres a Vi. The dishes were all underseasones, tasteless(between 4 of us we ordered 6-8 different dishes)and expensive. The serrano ham croquettes had no ham to speak of, the lobster mac 'n' cheese had no taste, and that was just the beginning. The server was completely unaware of our dissatisfaction, or just ignoring us. The one bright spot was the wine flights.
Pumpkin - too early?
'tis not too early, we're having pumpkin risotto at our rehearsal dinner this coming Friday!
Ferry Building Market
Just go early on Saturday and most of the crowds can be missed...it's worth it anyway.
recs for central coast area
In Paso...
Villa Creek is excellent upscale Southwestern faire. Across the street is Bistro Laurent, also very good. And, the Paso Robles Inn serves great 'cowboy' food. All in all, Paso has some great restaurants.
pres a vi how is it? thinkin of goin with friends from out of town?
I went a few months ago with three others. We has about 8 different dishes, all of which were not memorable, some were terrible. Nothing had any flavor. The Serrano ham croquettes had no ham and tasted like really old frying oil. The 'mac & cheese' with crab was so tasteless that I couldn't even taste the noodles. Our server was clueless as to our discontent too. The wine flights are good, but the price, at around $40-50/person was not worth it at all. I've heard the Presidio Social Club, very close to Pres a vi is much better.
Frozen Custard in the BA?
Willow Glen in San Jose is the only place that I know of, and it's good.
Cooking Classes in SF?
I've had a gift certificate to First Class Cooking since December an have been unable to get into a class. Everytime I sign up for one it's full...no luck at all. Too bad, I've heard the classes are good...
June 2007 Cookbook of the Month: Cast Your Vote Here
Super Natural Cooking by Heidi Swanson, the first cookbook that has inspired me to cook vegetarian. Very good book.
Most Reliable Restaurant Review Site Outside of Chowhound?
I think that Yelp is good for a general search but the site has become too much of a social networking site to be taken seriously as a great resource for foodies. Ever notice how almost every place has 3-4 stars? Still it remains as good place to search.
Visiting San Jose/SF next week...
Tamarine(upscale Vietnamese) on University and Bistro Elan(French) on California, both in PA are great places. As for SF, if you'd like Italian I'd try Acquerello. You won't go wrong with any of these places.
Cooking Classes in SF
I've had a girft certificate for First Class Cooking that my fiance got me for Christmas and have been unable to get classes 3 times now due to them being full, even though I've tried to sign up as soon as I get the schedule. I'd try CCA or Tante Marie.
Anti bottled water...a good idea, I think?

Fleur de Lys SF
I had an excellent experience at Fleur de Lys. The service, food and atmosphere was all top notch. I don't think you'll be dissapointed with the experience.
Child/lrg party friendly Sunday brunch?
I'd definitely go for Park Chow, very friendly to kids, great brunch.
High Gluten Flour? Local source?
try whole Foods, especially the one in Los Altos, they have a great selection of flour.
Good Japanese Restaurant on the Peninsula?
Akane in Los Altos is great and right in that price range
Santa Cruz Dog Friendly Restaurants?
Not sure about dog friendly places to eat, but I am sure that dogs aren't allowed on the main drag at all, leashed or not =(
Best New York Pizza in SF/Oakland?
I thought Paxti's on Hayes was much better than Little Star...
Honeymoon in SF and Wine Country
I'd visit the Ferry Building if you are into food, try to go Saturday and catch the Farmer's Market. Great markets and restaurants. Aqua is great, as is Fleur d Lys, Gary Danko, Michael Mina...the choices go on. I love Fleur d Lys myself.
6th Ave and Balboa Restaurants, Bars & Cafes?
Try Q on 3rd Ave and Clement...as an aside, I see your screen name is tatertot, at Q they serve mac n cheese with tatertots on top...so good.
