Christmas day

Thanks Prima!

Christmas day

Bumping this up as I am a single female looking for a nice quiet place to have a drink and a meal solo in the downtown area.

Places to Drink Solo?

Thanks! As a single female (my friends don't drink) this sounds right up my alley.

Places to Drink Solo?

The downstairs bar area at Embrujo Flamenco is really nice. I went with a group on a Saturday night but I will return to have a nice glass of wine and some yummy appetizers.

toronto's best/most authentic paella....

Do not go to Segovia. I didn't like their Paella at all. I've also tried the Paella at EMBRUJO FLAMENCO and was not a fan.

ISO Really good Tiramisu made in house - Toronto

I have tried tiramisu at some of the Italian restaurants and it is very obvious that they are store bought, sometimes even storebought, frozen and then thawed (yuck!).

I am looking for an Italian restaurant that serves good food but where the tiramisu is made in house and also tastes really good.

Any suggestions?

crispy Szechuan beef?

Faleys (indian chinese) has the best crispy fried beef. I am not a fan of their other dishes but they make the best IMHO. It is called crispy beef on their menu.

Closest Intersection: Rexdale & Islington

Indian Wedding Catering

I will recommend them to anyone looking for an Indian banquet hall.

Indian Wedding Catering

I was at Payal banquet hall yesterday. The food was very good! I have been to so many weddings, birthdays, functions etc all over the GTA. This is by far one of the best as far as food goes. The desserts were yummy. I loved how they heated up the gulab jamun. Most places don't do that. Even the coffee was good.

Appetizer/Tapas places with drinks for a group of women (10-20)

Thanks! How are the portions there? Are they very small or appetizer sized. I have never been to a tapas bar before.

Appetizer/Tapas places with drinks for a group of women (10-20)

I am trying to set up drinks for my friends and their friends. Looking for an affordable but good quality place for a group of 10-20 women. Looking for options for vegetarian as well and non alcholic drinks.

I prefer downtown. Any suggestions?

Visiting Chicago May 19-23, 2011 from Toronto, Canada - looking for Diners, Drive Ins & Dive type of places

Hi,

I am visiting Chicago from May 19th to the 23rd. I will be staying downtown and will be doing the regular touristy things like sightseeing, shopping etc.

I would love to visit a few "Diners, Drive Ins & Dive" similar to or places that were featured on the Food Network TV show. I won't have access to a car as I plan to travel using public transportation & walk as well. I would love to visit at least 4 places while I am there. I don't mind if I have to take a cab to go a bit out of the way if its worth it. I can plan my itinerary around your suggestions and am open to breakfast, lunch or dinner ideas.

Any recommendations?

Thank you.

Kensignton Market good eats

I went here for a brithday dinner yesterday and didn't expect much at all. I was very pleasantly surprised. The food was good. The mango lassi was divine.

I couldn't believe how juicy the tandoori shrimp and chicken were. Everyone loved their food. We were a group of 10 and ordered a mix of veggie and non veggie options. I will definitely go back. I would also like to mention that the group was mostly South Asian and we love our food and most of us are good cooks. I highly recommend this place.

The service was ok. They have jazz on Friday nights. I can't wait to go back and relax to some jazz and good Indian food with a nice glass of wine soon.

Breakfast at The Distillery

You can never go wrong with a spicy hot chocolate from Soma and a few pastries from a couple of the bakeries in the Distillery.

The Boiler House also has a $25 all you can eat brunch. I have never been to the brunch before but did the above yesterday and it was great!

Parisian Macarons

Thanks!

I did check out the rest of chowhound.com and found a few threads. I unfotunatley don't know how to delete my thread :$

Pink Burger. Huh??

The name of this place and the website sound cheesy BUT I know if I wanted to do a fun girls' night out here....it would be a hoot. It would be a one time thing though unless I was so impressed by the food that I would want to go back.

Sounds like a fun (one time) thing to do.

Parisian Macarons

My sis in law who grew up in Paris is craving Parisian Macaroons. Any suggestions? Downtown or TTC accessible is preferable. Would like to surprise her with a box of these.

Thanks.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

I loved the biryani at Iqbal! I wouldn't say it is the best I've ever had but it is definitely in my top 3. They also have a great deal for $40. It is called a family deal and you get 4 naans, a goat curry, biryani and 4 kababs.

I will definitely go back for my biryani fix and I would putit above Lahore Tikka House's biryani.

BEST PLACE FOR CHICKEN OR LAMB BIRYANI IN OR AROUND TORONTO?

I love the Lamb Biryani at Lahore Tikka House (Gerrard - Little India area). I am going to Iqbal in the Don Mills + Eglinton area on Sunday. Will post a review.

restaurants in TO using paper placemats printed with cocktail suggestions?

Mandarin has them for sure.

Late lunch - Beaches area next Sunday

I am planning a walk/hike with a few friends next Sunday from the Boardwalk to the Queen St E (Beaches area). We will be walking for a few hours and will be hungry by the end of the walk.

Can you recommend a casual place that serves great food for a late lunch at reo? We will be having lunch around 1 or 2 pm. It will be a group of less than 5 people.

Beef Carpaccio - Toronto

Thank you everyone!

I have never been to any of the restaurants listed so I guess I have to start making trips :)

Beef Carpaccio - Toronto

The first time I tried beef carpaccio was at Vagabondo over a month ago and it was amazing. Thin slices of raw beef marinated in vodka and pepper and served over a bed of arugula. It was an appetizer portion. They served bread with our dinner and I made a meal out of the carpaccio and buttered italian bread. It was heavenly.

Not sure if most restaurants serve beef carpaccio as a special only but if you can recommed a few places that have really good beef carpaccio on their menus, that will be great.

Thanks.

W Burger Bar, Yonge & College

I work in the area but only visited W Burger for lunch on Monday.

I had a bacon cheddar burger. I loved the burger! I got it done medium. It was juicy and yummy. The bacon could be a bit more well done because I like my bacon crispy. I will definitely go back!

best jamaican patties in the gta

I love the patties from the cafe inside Bathurst Station. Do know who supplies them?

Diners, Drive Ins & Dives types of places in Niagara Falls, Canada

I may do a day in Niagara Falls either on a weekend or a Monday this summer. Just wondering if you have any suggestions for a "Diners, Drive Ins & Dives type of restaurant". I will be on the Canadian side (will not be crossing the border) & I am going by myself.

I am looking for a few places as I will be having breakfast, lunch and dinner. I will be driving so hope that helps.

Thanks!

Paese on King St West

I had an unforgettable dinner there last Saturday. The service was great and the food was amazing! The funghi pizza I had was out of this world and reminded me of pizzas I had in Rome. I will definitely go back and have already referred 3 people.

I went with a group of 10 so so I didn't get a chance to do the 3 courses. I am looking forward to going back. They have a sommelier on staff, so can't wait to do wine pairing withthe courses too.

I very highly recommend them. It has been years since I've been blown away by food and service at a restaurant in Toronto.

Dairy & Soy free milk subsitute that tastes similar to milk - found!

The Yonge & College Metro doesn't carry it anymore :(

I work around there, so I try and go check to see if it is available almost everyday. I will try and contact someone from Rice Universe to see if they carry it at another store in Toronto.

South Street Burger Co. ?

I've only had good experiences at the one located on Islington, south of Norsman, North of the Queensway. I love that place!
