Restaurant eating challenges
eat an entire pan of pizza at zeppy's in hermosa and get your name on a pan mounted to the wall/ceiling.
Katana,Koi or Katsuya Brentwood-best for less
i'm not a fan of katsuya in brentwood. i've been a couple of times and while the sushi is fine (nothing amazing), there is something about the place that feels really sterile, like a spaceship. maybe its the stretchy gray outfits the waiters wear? they also give an annoying speech before you order about how they have 3 special kitchens, blah, blah, blah...
koi really is a scene but every time i've gone, i've had a fun time and enjoyed the meal. its good for celebrity-sighting too if thats what you want.
never been to katana so can't share anything there.
Tell me names of good Japanese restaurants in Orange County
Gen Kai in Dana Point is pretty popular. Generous portions of fish for the $. If you go on a weekend, be sure to get there early (there is always a line at the door before opening time) or expect a wait, especially for the sushi bar.
Hollywood Food plus Scene
Simon LA is all about the scene. Food is mediocre but the junk food dessert platter is always a fun/interesting idea.
best veggie burger? astro?
real food daily has a really good veggie burger. its red-colored (red peppers?) and tempeh-based and has a strong mushroom taste.
need your best all day breakfast recs
Toast serves breakfast all day. In fact, I think its better to get breakfast there at night and avoid the crowds.
banana bread mix at TJ's
a coworker brought it in once. its pretty tasty. i would try adding an extra mashed up banana to the mix next time just to get some extra flavor.
Jiraffe for Valentine's Day?
Went to Jiraffe last year for V-day. Food was excellent. They really cram you in there but once you're in, they don't try to rush you along. Try opentable.com for more LA V-day menus.
Going to Laguna Beach/Dana Point
Try Eva's Carribbean Kitchen in South Laguna. Always good, high quality food. I like the seafood there.

If you like seafood, Cafe Zoolu is great. Its a little hole-in-the-wall place whose menu changes daily.
