For delivery or takeout American Chinese in Downtown Berkeley, I always rely on nearby King Dong restaurant. The prices are cheap, the portions are large, and the delivery is prompt.

Marin Sun Farms almost always brings fresh goat meat to the Saturday Ferry Building Farmer's Market. I've had good luck with their bone-in goat legs. Rolled boneless shoulder, shanks, noisettes [boneless rolled loin], and rib racks are other common goat cuts they'll typically offer.

I've been twice times now and had the braised thighs both times. They are great. In terms of starters, their salumi and bruschetta both seem reliably good. Enjoy your meal! I think Barbacco is a great spot and a great deal for the money.

I second Limon Rotisserie. Its a good value for very tasty food. The chicken is mildly spiced enough for kids and there are fried starches aplenty.

Shabu Prime Rib on 5th Avenue
I went on Sunday and had a great meal. The all-you-can-eat option appears to be an all-week menu feature.
The first two plates of meat we had were very lean. A quick conversation with the waiter solved this problem, and the subsequent plates of beef were richly marbled and thick cut. The lamb and beef were both fresh-tasting and flavorful.
The seafood variety wasn't very extensive, being limited to whole head-on shrimp, squid & fish balls, crab sticks, and cherry clams, but the flavors were good.
The vegetable variety was good, and included some thick-stemmed Asian greens that I couldn't identify. What I can do is say that it was a bit smelly uncooked and delicious once boiled.
The flavored broth, while not a traditional shabu shabu feature, made for a tasty soup at the meal's end.
With attentive service, reasonable alcohol prices, and an attractive interior, I don't see myself visiting Mum's any time soon. This is my new all you can eat shabu shabu destination.

The lambs' brains are excellent when they appear on the menu. Imagine the creamiest most spicy scrambled eggs possible and you have some idea what they taste like.

Vegan Visitor from Down Under
One good vegan bet not mentioned on those threads is Weird Fish in the Mission. Featuring both real and vegan faux fish, Weird Fish is a solid bet for lunch and dinner are also solid. They also make a mean brunch featuring both real eggs and tofu scrambles.

The owner of Schnitzelhaus has passed away
I read this rumor on Yelp and just confirmed it with a phone call to the restaurant. The person answering the phone confirmed that Hans died on January 13th. His former co-owner, the Austrian woman familiar to many longtime customers, had apparently left the business about a month prior.
The restaurant had just expanded into the former cafe next door last fall. I had only been back once, on January 2nd, since the expansion. The food quality was still excellent though the expansion had changed the feel of the original premises room quite a bit. Hans was of course present and a gracious host as always. RIP, sir, you will be missed.

Large group dinner this Sat evening

Any recommendations from this year's Whole Hog dinner at Oliveto?
I am too pressed for time for a long post, but I had a nice meal at Oliveto last night. While the food quality was up to its normal high quality, the bacon chop of years past was sorely missed.
Quick recap:
-salumi plate - good as always but the wild boar salami was a special standout
-fried trotter with brains - third appearance on the menu, good as always
-spiedino of liver with panchetta - grilled perfectly rare and quite tasty
-spaghetti with pork coppa confit -delightfully spicy, w/vibrantly piquant peppers, highly recommended
-mostaccioli with ragu - quite cheesy and quite salty, very good, but not a standout dish
-potatoes fried in pork renderings - delicious comfort
-tofeja del Canavese - very hearty without being gluttonous, the shoulder therein was delightful
-zampone braised in saba - almost impossibly heavy and gelatinous, a hulking portion served with a great pureed bean mixture
-rosemary sorbetto - blindsidingly strong but a very nice palate-cleanser, served w/great shortbread
-chocolate tart w/candied pancetta - I only tried the pancetta, but that was very very nice
