Carniceria Wanted - Samo & Westside

I am assuming that you are looking for ingredients to cook at home or otherwise. You cannot go wrong with Sanchez Meat Co. They also have prepared food there. Never ate there but if it is have as good as their meats, espcially their carne asada, it is a place. I drive from Brentwood. Not too bad of a drive.

Thanks SISC,

Where do you park at Purans without getting towed?

Quick but good food near Greek

I am going to the Greek Theatre tomorrow evening. Is there decent sit down near the Greek that will not consume my evening. Unwrapping my food is not an option. Open to anything that is good. Thanks chowhounders.

Brentwood Pinkberry

Here is a hint on parking at Barrington Court. Don't waste your time circling to find a meter. Go to the parking lot just south between the Starbucks and the Clay Pit. You will most likely get validated. Do not park illegally!

Many Santa Monica Restaurants are CLOSED tonight

And it will. Hosted 40 last July at the Ivy when the grid blew out one hour before the dinner started. Almost gave a new meaning to 'surprise' in surprise party. Panic ensued but with the exception of a few dishes not being available, the night was salvaged.

What is the Griddle's address?

Let's put together a pancake hootenanny!

Marstons in Pasadena has incredible Blueberry Pancakes. If you, however, end up getting the French Toast because the table next to you just had theirs delivered to you as you are placing your order, I cannot blame you.

Where can I find the best crab cake?

I concur on the Ivy. It is as good as any other mentioned here. Very consistent.

Steaks in Hawaii

Thanks for feedback but you being a little harsh here. The rest of the meal and service was great and I had to catch a plane so I chose not to complain it to the manager (who did come up to our table to ask us if all was well). I chose to let it go. As I mentioned this post is not a bashing on Ruth's Chris and I only mentioned it in passing to the valet. Was more curious about his comments.

Steaks in Hawaii

I came out to Honolulu for a turn around business meeting in downtown Honolulu this week. I was taking the red eye back to LA so I thought getting a steak in me might help me sleep on the plane on the way back. I went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse which I had been to before on the mainland. My ribeye was terrible. Not only was it overcooked but had an odd flavor to it. As I was waiting for my car, I mentioned to the valet how dissapointing my meal was. He mentioned that on the Island, steaks are cooked differently and I would have the same result at any other steakhouse or with any steak I would order at almost any restaurant.

The balance of the meal including sides, wine and dessert were on par with any other upscale restaurant. I am not trying to bash Ruth's Chris but am more curious if what the valet said is true. Was this an abberation or is it really different? Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks Chowhounders! Or, I should say, Mahalo!

WEST restaurant @ 405 & Sunset ??

I hosted a dinner for 12 in May and really enjoyed the experience. Great wine selection. Most of my guests had some type of beef/steak dish. Side dishes were good as well as dessert. Good service. I would definitely go back and host a dinner there. I have never been there for lunch so I am not sure if the menu is the same.

Since you are very close to Brentwood, I would HIGHLY recommend Pecorino (in the old Zax location on San Vicente). Fanstastic seafood and pasta dishes. Wonderful and attentive service. I host a business lunch there around once a week. My guests always are impressed with the food. Not the most inexpensive place so be mindful of that. Lunch crowd usually does not get going until around 1:00 PM so a last minute lunch there usually is not a problem (unless I am hosting a larger dinner, I never make reservations). This has turned out to be my neighborhood hangout. Miss S. Irene gave it two stars, btw.

Pinkberry coming to Westlake Village

They risk becoming as ubiquitous as a Subway. They are headed down a much traveled road to destroying their brand like Krispy Kreme did (comparing only business plan, not quality of food). I think in five years, most units will be shut down.

I second the vote. HUGE cookie (huge price $$$). Be sure to have a defibrillator handy. In the name of research, do make trip.

Kid friendly restaurants in Orange County

I believe there is a Claim Jumper near Knotts. Very kid friendly. Bring an empty stomach as portions are huge. Enjoy your stay. Hopefully there won't be too much June Gloom....

flemings steak house or roy's hawaiian restaurant

Both are good choices and it really depends on the type of food you crave. If you like wine, I would have to lean toward's Fleming's extensive wine by the glass choices (around 100). Enjoy!

Hosting Dinner at West @ Hotel Angeleno

I am going to host a dinner for about 15 to 20 at West. This is a post conference business dinner and have elected West due to its proximity to the venue of the conference as well as the views that I know the out-of-towners will appreciate. I have read the reviews in CH and seem to think that the food works but spotty on service. I am spending a lot of money on dinner so I can handle the service part. The main question is: What dishes can I recommend to my guests? I am having the wine list sent to me but would love suggestions. We will probably go heavy on the reds. Unless there is something that is really bad that I need to be aware of, please limit responses to constructive advice. Thanks Chowhounders in advance for your thoughtful repsonses!!!

I think a great lunch spot is All India Cafe on Santa Monica at Bundy on the second floor. I think they have the best naan in all the city.

Best LA Area Burgers?

The Grill in BH has a Kobe steak burger. Out of this world. You will need to use your home equity line of credit to pay for it, however. Get it with the onion strings.

The Apple Pan hickory burger revisited (with clear eyes)

I completely agree on the burger. Never understood the hype. Now, the Banana Creme pie...that is a completely different story. Worth the $$ and parking hassle.

Nice OP, btw.

Beverly Hills Business Dinner

Give Maestro's Steakhouse on Canon a try. I know a lot who entertain business clients there. I think that any decent restaurant in BH might put a dent in the expense account. What is your per person target?
