Babbo Pasta Tasting Menu

I was just there for my anniversary dinner for the pasta tasting with the wine pairing and couldn't recommend the meal enough. I thought 5 of the 8 wines were wonderful and all did a stand up job pairing the truly amazing pasta.

Thought I would never recommend such a thing, especially with all the whiners in this post about "too much amazing food". My stomach doesn't know such a thing and thus, I added an extra pasta course, the beef cheek ravioli, and that brought me to my blissful fullness.

Good luck with the reservation, and enjoy!

The Heaviest Food in Manhattan

LOL

Is Halfsteak still going on??

The Halfsteak menu is available every night, not just Wednesday, and yes still going on.

I went last night, and was pleasantly surprised with the number of choices, both food and alcohol. I would recommend.

The burger didn't blow me away, but the fries were good, and the drinks kept our group happy

Rusty Knot for the Food

So far liked the ribs and meat loaf sandwich the best, the beer puffs have very light flavoring, but are still delectable to taste.

44 1/2

Agreed on both.

I don't see either of them becoming destination spots of glory, but for a very good neighborhood meal, they score quite high in my book.

Any Dessert Truck sightings?

I have been trying to hit the dessert truck for a post dinner indulgence and seem to keep on missing it. Last couple times I have been around 10 PM and they are already gone. I thought that was an acceptable dessert acquisition time.

Do they have shorter hours with NYU out for summer? Did they change location and not update the website? Anyone?

ko tips

I must be the most unlucky Ko attempter ever. I try pretty much every morning. Have the timing down for the 10AM click to seeing a row of green checks, click on everything as fast as possible, and every time I get the someone just grabbed that spot. Painful. Was invited once with friends, and now try unmercifully to get back.

Momofuku Ko - won't someone please write about dinner

Truly an incredible meal. So many amazing flavors it's impossible to give a summary. If this is something you think you would enjoy, don't hesitate, just go.

I had dinner last night, ate with two of my friends that were already eating for their second time. They were given special menu items for some courses that are not offered to us "freshmen" Ko'rs. The wine pairings really made the meal perfect. My favorite pairing being the sweeter sake combined with the shaved foie gras dish. Most comedic pairing being the elegant rose champagne and the Chang pork rind.

Favorite plate overall: have to give nods to the fried short rib, egg and caviar dish, apple pie, and the shaved foie gras. To pick between those would be like picking a favorite child, out loud.

Santa Monica.....???

Their Cheese Explosion is my single favorite slice in LA and I have turned countless friends on to this really chill cool place.

Whole Foods Burgers

The El Segundo/Manhattan Beach WF has served them since opening in store.

I have had them a couple times and they are quite good and a pretty good bargain coming with french fries. I usually have them grill up the specialty patties which are excellent.

New to Houston, what's your favorite restaurant in town

hahah, this is amazing.

One more LA Chowhounder moving to Houston and would have made this exact post until I found it.

Thanks for all the replies. Also, is there a popular foodie blog for Houston?

Looking for a cool restaurant in la or "hollywood" that has a private space for 20ct Bday!!!

Not in the "club" sense.

But the newly opened Craft definitely should fill the "cool" quota and has an amazing private area with it's own private patio and dining area that could hold 20 and then some.

CUT in Photos, or, the $140 Steak Is Actually Worth It

My stomach is hating my eyes right now out of jealousy

Beautiful post, and thank you for the review

Craft: Is it worth it?

Ha, Amazing!

Were you one of the dinners on the aisle side, or the couple that was on the inside?

I was the younger one my table.

Blue Velvet - portions utterly unreasonable

I have reservations for tomorrow and I am now very scared, considering I am 6'1'' 200 pound male that loves to eat.

Anyone recommend any quick cheap meals to fill me up before dinner in that area?

Craft: Is it worth it?

I am an instant fan of Craft.

Had a wonderful dinner last night.

Started with the Arugula salad which was nice and light, really great when stacked on top of a bite of the grain bread. Also had the carbonara pasta which I loved, amazed they served it in en entire pot, and even more amazed how full the pot was of pasta. The two first courses were perfect amount of food for the three of us.

We decided to have three mains to share. I went for the short rib that was also served in a pot, came out very wonderfully flavored with sparse vegetables simmering in the meat's juices. My first bite was a tad dry, requested a spoon to get the juice out of the bottom of the pot and made everything better. Next was the scallop, 4 large scallops came out in the order, I have always been a fan of scallops so it wasn't hard to win me over with this meal but it did certainly hit the spot. Last was the shrimp, I have never been amazed by shrimp before but always enjoyed them, these might be the best shrimp I have ever tasted. Thank you Tom!

For sides we had the potato gnocchi, good, and the sampler of the mushrooms, great.

We had tons of leftovers but still decided to push on to dessert and ordered the mint fudge ice cream, the teeccino sorbet, and the cookie sampler. Cookie sampler was ok but both of the frozen creams were the table's favorites.

An amazing meal all the way around. Colicchio popped out of the kitchen two times, it was a pleasure just to know he was back there.

Is it worth it? It was to me.

Italian food in Hermosa or Manhattan Beach?

Depends on what your looking for.

Cheap, and pretty bad, but get drunk on your own wine: Frito Misto

Going straight to Hermosa Pier, pretty decent food: Italy's Little Kitchen on Pier and Hermosa

Very nice and traditional memorably great meal: La Sosta, my favorite Italian in the South Bay.

Check Zagat and Yelp for reviews on La Sosta, all quite sparkling.

What's your most recent WOW! Moment at an LA restaurant?

The presentation of the chocolate dessert tasting at Abode with the cake baked inside the egg

Mozza - Kids?

I have sat next to two very well behaved daughters and their mother. No complaints at all.

looking for mexican coke in the south bay

99% I remember seeing them at Java Man on Pier in Hermosa Beach

$2 and under

As many chocolate rugalas from Canter's. Probably about 6-9

Manhattan Beach eats/drinks open late?

Wow, I knew Michi sold, but I didn't know they had plans to close it so soon, thanks for the info.

Manhattan Beach eats/drinks open late?

Couple of options.

For nicer drinks, check out Shade Hotel's bar.

There are alot of restaurants that will still be serving food around Manhattan Beach Blvd.

The Kettle is 24/7 and makes alot of things very good. I'm addicted to their Blue-Cheese Burger, and friends love their chicken fingers (home made masterpieces).

There is a pizza place all the way down on the block next to the pier that makes really good pizza.

The nicer options for food- Avenue, Town, or Michi are worth looking up, but I feel they probably wouldn't still be serving past 10.

Good luck.

Lastly, one bar to check out is Side Door - http://maps.google.com/maps?f=l&hl=en&q=side+door&near=manhattan+beach+ave+and+manhattan,+Manhattan+beach,+ca&ie=UTF8&ll=33.884819,-118.409228&spn=0.004756,0.009999&z=17&iwloc=A&iwd=1&cid=33882856,-118409713,14251107055620442673&om=1

Usually a good mix of people and great drinks, many South Bayers favorite

Private Room at Mastros??

It's good if you love the food and have a big party.

I couldn't believe our party of 16 filled just one table.

Any sushi places with happy hour prices or specials?

Wabi Sabi in Abbot Kinney, I think it gets mixed reviews on here, but I always love it.

And yes, on the topic, they have pretty good happy hour deals

Abode restaurant

Went to experience Abode last Friday night and it was a BIG hit.

I got the same "sustainable" propaganda that they got hit big against in some recent article ( here http://www.calendarlive.com/dining/cl-wk-critic26apr26,0,5189830.story?coll=cl-home-more-channels ), and took it with a grain of salt hoping that the food would shine through.

I started with the Oyster tasting, 4 different preparations of oysters, 3 of which I found to be delectable and the presentation was very charming. Couldn't go 4 for 4 because I don't do bloody marrys which is what the number one oyster was in. Date had the Pear Salad, she said was great, I stole a slice of pair and was pleasantly surprised by it's unique marinade, really cool mixture with the already sweetness of the pear's flavor.

We couldn't coordinate and somehow both ordered the Alaskan Black Cod and it didn't disappoint for being the only main course we got to try. It came with a red rice "ball" that absolutely rocked, I tried my best to break it up so I could have at with as many bites as possible. The fish meat was amazing, and broke apart at a not too tough or easy way that made the knife unnecessary but no chunks running away.

Finally finished with The Study of Chocolate even though both of us truly felt full, rare in a presentation first mass second type restaurant. I have absolutely know clue how, but the chocolate cake inside of the egg was amazing and perplexing. Similar to eating the ship out of the bottle, except the ship has a sweet gooey chocolate center. All the other chocolate on the plate tasted great, but the egg chocolate cake was king.

I really wish this place the best, nice looking interior and a dinner I won't stop fantasizing about anytime soon. I'll definitely come back when I have some food lovers to impress.

Pinkberry Locations

Surprisingly drove by a nearly completed Pink Berry on Abbot Kinney.

Their neon exterior is blinding compared to the other store fronts, ugh.

SOUTH BAY: Any Rec's for Late Dinner (9pm) for Party of 12?

Italy's Little Kitchen Hermosa Beach...now wait, let me finish. It's got a great location right on Hermosa Ave and Pier. They have a private dining room upstairs for big groups, and it was really fun. They have some decent dishes, and a good amount of wine. We additionally brought some bottles of our own and I remember them having a very reasonable corkage fee.

Call and see if you can get the top floor, if yes, it's worth checking out, you don't feel like your in some semi-chain restaurant in South Bay at all, very fun, intimate, and impressive setting.

WFM Manhattan Beach

As I was driving by, I saw the new "Now Open" sign of Sepulvida.

Today was quite the day, but I can't wait to take a tour tomorrow and grab some lunch.

Shabu-Shabu that's not downtown?

Second to Ebizo. In there once a week or so getting everything from the shabu shabu, great burgers, or chicken skewers over their cesear salad.
