Unattended Dutch Oven Cooking?
Pot in the oven is the way to go. You can brown everything in the pot. Deglaze it and let it cook for 6-10 hours at 225. The low temp will not evaporate as much liquid as you think. I would do it a few times when you are home to observe and adjust. I promise the flavor will kick the haggis out of any slow cooker meal.
Lobster to Travel
On Monday Sept 26 I'm driving from Sugar Bush (VT) to Boston and flying out of Logan. Can anyone recommend a place along the way to pick up a case of live lobster? I've seen them pak the critters in heavy styro coolers with seaweed and they stay nice and fresh for a few days. You can just check the cooler box in as regular luggage. Any guesstimates as to what it is going to cost me per Lb? Thank you.
Best steakhouse in Phoenix
i'm coming to Phoenix to visit family. I'll be near Tatum and Thunderbird. Any recommendations for an awesome steakhouse? I prefer it not be a chain. I'm partial to old school. Thanks
Non-profit Restaurants
California Culinary School (Not exactly sure of the name) in Pasadena has a coffee/sandwich shop and a sit down fine dining restaurant. Both are great.
Best Fresh Hotdogs, Pasadena
Anyone know where I can find old school hotdogs. You know the kind in natural casing that just "POP" when you bight in to them?
Scored a cheap kitchenaid; dough hook usage?
Uhh, I think to much flour and dough. I usually use 2 cups of flour and whatever else and my dough hook works just fine.
Scottsdale Restaurant for 60th BD, 15 ppl.
Hello Phoenicians, I’m planning a surprise BD for my brother on Feb 21. I have 15 people, mixed kids and adults. Any recommendations for a nice independent place in the area. My bro is close to Thunderbird and Tatum, the group is staying at the Point at Squaw Peak, so anyplace in between those areas is AOK.
Thanks
Scottsdale Restaurant
Hello all you Phoenicians. I am throwing a surprise party with 30 guests in Scottsdale in Feb 09. We are staying at the Scottsdale Resort and Conference Center, 7700 E. McCormick Parkway 85258.
Any recommendations on great restaurants are caterers that can handle a group of 30. I could use the conference center, but, I am a chow hound and hotel food is mediocre at best.
Thank you.
Passover Birthday Cake
I would love the recipe, but, I am from LA. Staying in a hotel that week. No baking for me.
True Bar B Q [moved from Kosher board]
I was born in NJ. Bar B Q meant cooking on a grill over hot coals or gas.
True Bar B Q is using smoke and long low heat to cook the meat for 6-12 hours.
If you don’t believe me just ask a Texan, but, get ready to run. That said, I started to Bar B Q on my own. It is way way easy and you can smoke whatever cuts of meat you want. Brisket is awesome. Last year I made smoked Brisket for Passover.
My whole rig cost less than $100 and is smaller than a 30 gallon trash can.
Passover Birthday Cake
Ya, I know my BD is around Pesach too, I still have nightmares about Manschweitz Honey Cake with candles in it. I was just hoping with all the new ingredients, maybe, just maybe I could find something. For example I have found organic confectioners sugar without the corn starch. But is it not K for P certified. I figure if there is going to be anything anywhere in the US it is going to be in your area.
Passover Birthday Cake
I posted to all 4 relevant board, NYC, Tristate, Kosher and Bouroughs. Thx.

Help NYC foodies. I will be in the city the first week of April. For the second seder we are going to a friends house in Fairlawn NJ. One of my Kid's turns 5 that day (Tue, April 3). Do you know where I can find a way kewl Kosher for Passover Birthday Cake? If you have a number or web site that would be great, I will call and advance order it.
Details, I am staying near 48th and Lexington. I will have a car that Tuesday. I am driving from the City to Paterson NJ in the Morning and then to my friends house in Fairlawn that afternoon. So any bakery in the City or around the area's in NJ would work. However, I may have to pick the cake up on Monday, so the city would be easier, but, I could probably get someone in NJ to pick the cake up on Monday if need be.
Thanks

Is Private Catering the Way to Go?
Pei,
In Pasadena check out Dereks Bistro, he has a catering company. There is a caterer on Fair Oaks across from Central park, I have used she was very good. The Ritz Carlton has good food, impeccable service and is well appointed. Keep in mind, I have never gotten "Oh my god that is to die for food" at any catered event ever. I think it is too hard to prepare huge simultaneous plates at once. You can expect very good food and the non foodies will think it is "oh my god to die for" from any of the aforementioned. Good luck
When did chickens get super-sized?
I'm with Mike W. Try Kosher, the chickens are smaller, naturally yellow from eating real corn and super tasty. Trader Joes in So Cal has a Kosher line, I prefer the taste to organic.
Great Bar Near 48th and 3rd
Thanks or the input.Couple of things, we are mobile, I don't have to be that close to my hotel. Also, no insult intended, but, I am in L.A., no great mexican or margarita places please. You don't come to LA for Deli, you don't to the city for Mexican.
Wahib's or Lebanese Kitchen?
In m forever ever ver humble opinion, go Lebanese, Wahibs is unimpressive. Also epending on what you want, mediterranean grill off of south lake is good. sorry for my typin, baby in 1hand puter in the other
Which LA Restaurants are UNDERrated?
JJ in Pasadena was "Da Bom" back when. As of late it has bombed. I have no problem spending a hundred a head if the food is good, when the food is mediocre it just pisses me off.
Great Bar Near 48th and 3rd
I'm coming to the city for my 40th. Can anyone recommend some great spots clost to my hotel? I am not loking for overly loud, way too hip to belong here places. I'm looking for exceptional bars, where I can get a great clasic cocktail and maybe brush up on my repetoire of new cocktails. Nice atmoshpere, will go a few times with just my wife, other times with family from the area.
Thanks ahead of time, Rob the NJ transplant now in LALALALALAnd
Home knife sharpening - best (and most reasonable) sharpener?
STOP IT!!!! Right now! You asked this same question a few weeks ago. Either make a decision or get off the pot. Making the wrong decision is worse than no decision. At least yo can correct a wrong decision. If you are scared of buying the wrong thing, buy it at bed bath and beyond. They take stuff back years after you purchased it without the receipt.
JJ Steakhouse and Houstons, Pasadena
Have both of these places gone down or am I expecting too much?
Breakfast in Sunland?
Sunland???? Hmmmm, AMPM has breakfast sandwiches. Or does micky D's still have the sausage croissant?;-)))
Attention LA old-timers... Is it Paul's Kitchen I'm thinking of? (divey Chinese)
Pauls Kitchen in LA was sold years ago, I went there a few times after he sold and it was gross. Pauls kitchen in MP was run by his son. I have not been in a few years, so I would verify.
Formal Dining in Glendale
