Ignazio's Pizza

I have to say... I waited for my pie for a very, very long time... (I hoped the food would be worth the wait), but the pizza was disappointing. Not bad but definitely not great (and this is Brooklyn! We do pizza better!). Next time I'll battle the tourists and stand in the line at Grimaldi's.

1 day in Brooklyn, what's not to miss?

Great suggestions, Jen.

Hecho en Dumbo--must make up for lost time

I'm a big fan of the Hecho en Dumbo sampler platter... It's $18 and can easily feed 2, especially if you start off with the guacamole appetizer. You'll get a great (and filling) assortment of foods (burritas, tacos, arepas, a bruschetta-ish dish, etc.).

Best Sandwich in Slope/Carroll Gardens?

Do you like banh mi? Don't miss Hanco's just off of Smith Street. There's a Nicky's nearby too, on Atlantic Avenue, but I personally prefer Hanco's.

'Pomegranate' on CIAvenue??? Ave. L

Just wanted to bump this up. Has anyone been to the store yet? I can't wait to check it out.

Tazza to open second location!

The carrot cake here (made at Baked) is some of the best I've had. Ever. I'm a huge fan of Tazza and hope the second location takes off. I *do* wish they'd take out some of the tables in the new place. It feels really crowded and uncomfortable to me.

Delivery suggestions in Park Slope?

Lots of delivery options in Park Slope! A quick search on the board will probably give you some ideas... One of my favorites is the Olive Vine for Middle Eastern... Their signature pitza is perfect rainy day food in my book.

Sushi lunch in BOCOCA

I think Hibino is the best in the neighborhood, but Kyoto on Smith is reliable and has great service...

Need Brooklyn or NY-esque Gift Ideas!

I think coffee is actually a great idea. What about some Gorilla? Or... You could always give her a bottle of Frankie's Spuntino olive oil, or take her a box of the quintessential NYC treat -- black and white cookies...

Lower East Side, need cheap or reasonable and good!

Cafe Katja on Orchard has great Austrian food at really reasonable prices. Homemade pretzels are $3, Spaetzle is $16. It's a sweet place.

suggestions for dinner in brooklyn heights

Tazza is my favorite coffee shop, and I've heard rumors that there's another one going up near Clark Street...
If you're looking for decent Mexican food (and good Mexican cocktails), head to Hecho en Dumbo in (ha) Dumbo.
I second the Waterfront Ale House rec... It's a great neighborhood spot. Both King Tut and Fatoush are good options for Middle Eastern delivery, and I personally think JTH is overpriced and stuffy, but they make the best macaroni and cheese in the world.

Moxie on Atlantic Avenue

So glad it's not just me! I really wanted to like this place. But... Icky indeed.

Brooklyn Side of Brooklyn Bridge

Noodle Pudding is a classic! Definitely not overpriced. Overcrowded, maybe, but not overpriced.
I'm surprised that no one's recommended Hecho en Dumbo. It's close to the bridge, the food is good, and the atmosphere is nice and laidback. I love the $17 sampler platter -- It's big enough to share. Margaritas are tasty, too.
I don't think the hike to Atlantic Avenue is worth it when there are so many closer options.

Moxie on Atlantic Avenue

I went last Saturday for brunch -- BIG mistake! Totally mediocre food, tiny portions, and absolutely no atmosphere. It's like a cafeteria gone wrong. Kids seemed to be having a good time, but with nothing here to keep the parents happy, I'm not sure how long Moxie will last. The owners seriously need to make some service upgrades and turn the kitchen around for this to work. I won't be going back.

Anyone tried Merkato 55 yet?

Went last night -- The lamb meatballs were amazing. I'll go back again just for those.

Shrimp fritters were salty beyond belief, the lobster salad a hit, and the desserts, for the most part, unimpressive (though the pistachio lassi was delicious!).

Best coffee shop in Brooklyn (to read and study in)

Naidre's has a good cup of coffee and free wi-fi. Also, Tazza in Brooklyn Heights makes a mean espresso, but they discourage computers. If it's a lounge-y place I'm looking for, I usually head to Flying Saucer.

Brooklyn Restaurant with Glass Floor/Fish?

I know this is a random question -- But has anyone heard of a restaurant in Brooklyn with a glass floor and fish swimming underneath? Someone mentioned it to me, and I can't find information about it anywhere.

Best Diners?

I'm curious, too... Tom's seems like the most "diner-like" diner I've been to in ages. Love the pancakes (and homemade butters)! Love the standard egg dishes and such... What makes it a lucheonette?

Belgian Waffles?

I know you're not looking for the street fair kind, but have you seen the Wafels & Dinges truck? I think it's usually around Union Square. They have very good waffles.

any mexican restaurants in the heights??

Please don't go to Mezcals! It's, in my opinion, truly awful. I think the only real option around here is Hecho en Dumbo.

Palo Santo: Any recent visitors?

I heard that Palo Santo's not open for brunch anymore! Does anyone know if this is true?

New Vietnamese Restaurant in Brooklyn Heights

I had dinner at this place a week ago, and I'm trying it again (delivery) tonight. Everything I ordered the first time around was actually very good -- not world shaking -- but solidly good. Sure, this won't be a "destination" restaurant, but I agree with most of the posters here -- it's definitely a nice addition to the neighborhood.

Brooklyn Heights/DUMBO Dining Conundrum

I just read about Hecho in Dumbo -- Has anyone tried it? It's supposed to be good Mexican bar food...
Of course I'm a fan of Noodle Pudding. I also like Fatoush for delivery.

Best Belgian - especially Moules Frites?

Sorry; I'd have to vote against BXL. There's no ambience, and the food's just OK, in my opinion (though it's close to my office, so I end up there sometimes). I'd love to find a great moules frites place! I'm going to try Vol de Nuit.

Italian birthday dinner for a large group

How about Barbuto in the West Village?

Bored with Brooklyn Heights

I really like Fatoosh on Hicks Street for Middle Eastern food and pitzas... And I second Nicky's, which is cheap and tasty. My Little Pizzeria (Court and State) has suprisingly good pizza...

Brooklyn Heights recomendation [moved from Manhattan board]

Another option might be Noodle Pudding on Henry Street. It's good, affordable Italian. And they even have a couple of very decent $10 bottles of wine on the menu.

Dinner in the Boerum/Carroll/Cobble/Atlantic area

Frankie's 457 would be great. Or how about Palo Santo?

birthday dinner for my b-friend in Brooklyn?

Speaking of tasting menus, how about the one at Palo Santo in Park Slope? I actually went there for the first time on my birthday and was floored by the meal.

Looking for a great Italian restaurant in the East Village or surrounding area...

I second Lavagna.

Also, I recently had a great Italian meal at Mangiami, if you're willing to go a few blocks south (it's on Stanton).
