5/15/12 Rosa Mexicano Report
I went with four people on the same night but had a different opinion of the experience. I liked the atmosphere, it was comfortable and not at all crowded or too loud. However we felt that the food was all about the presentation and rather mediocre.
We had: fish tacos, chicken tinga enchiladas and some other chicken dish. All fair but not great. Every dish looked fantastic but the flavors lacked depth and were just blah.
We had the guacamole (spicy although it really wasn't very spicy). The guac was good - everything in it was fresh and the home made tortillas served with it were fantastic.
Overall - not bad but just not that great.
Chinese food for my non-Chinese food eating wife
I was going to suggest shabu shabu as well. And agree with your reasoning..
Shabu Zen on Tyler St is also nice.

Bergamot vs Troquet
That is seriously the best butter. I would go there just to eat bread & butter.
My in-laws are coming...
How about Chicken Mirabella - easy to pick out the olives and other "offensive" ingredients but the taste is delicious and not too exotic. Added bonus: easy to do ahead of time.
UNH Alums, et al---Karl's, Catnip Pub, Tin Palace--Durham NH?
Oh boy!! Karls also had the best chicken salad subs.. and those fries! YUM. Also Tin Palace had great pizza withthe cheese on top of the "toppings" which I still do today when I make pizza.
Can't help with recommendations. I was there this past winter on the way to a ski weekend and did not find any of the old haunts or even a good college town meal.
Whole Foods no longer selling Iggy's?
I love Pain D'Avignon breads. They have a limited selection at the WF on Cambridge Street. However, a few weeks ago, the woman working in the bakery area told me that with just one day's notice they'd order you what you want.
local boston ice cream wedding cake?
I had a Ben & Jerry's ice cream cake at my wedding. Three layers & three different flavors. And they decorated it beautifully for me. It was a huge hit.
What's going into old Pizza Oggi space?
Pizza Oggi in the financial district closed a while ago. It looks like something else is close to opening in there. Anyone know what's up?
Wondering about Lyceum in Salem?
Interesting - I always liked the Lyceum but actually like the Grapevine much much more. Excellent service and my family loves the eggplant parm there. That would be worth another boat ride.
I took the boat up to Salem for the first time last weekend & what a blast! Too bad it doesn't stop in @ M'head.
wanted: dark cozy irish pub
Coogan's in the financial district is dark: lots of brick & dark wood and great pubby beers, with big flat screens to watch the game. However, it's also got fewer people usually, big open windows to the dark financial district streets, white tablecloths and food that's good enough. Or maybe it's just close to where I live : ) We like it though.
Sometimes a girl just wants to eat alone...
I'm with you re: sometimes a girl just wants to eat alone. Parish could be good. Agree that you could sit at the bar alone & feel comfortable. Lot's to watch too. Got to be in the mood for a sandwich. My favorite place to eat alone is at Sel de la Terre over by the Aquarium (would require a subway ride). It's got a nice bar that's not too crowded & some totally comfortable chairs at little tables in the bar area.
I'm going to say it: I like the lobster roll at Kingfish Hall better than the roll at Neptunes!
Pegmeister, you may already know this but on the Vineyard in Oak Bluffs there's a place called The Lookout (or something like that) They have an open air porch and serve good sushi if you like & a decent lobster roll. And it's a fabulous place to sit & spend a few hours!! It's located by the park on the beach across from where the ferry comes in.
Anyone have a knockout, Asian-inspired salmon recipe?
This one is my favorite. I sometimes use a little less honey & soy but generally love the flavor of this one:

red and white blue dessert ideas?
how about cut up strawberries, blueberries and mini marshmellows
Santarpio's - can't reach
My husband and I love this order: sausage & garlic pizza, bottle of chianti (you have to appreciate drinking your wine out of a juice glass - which we do) all for $27. And the wine isn't bad!
Milk Chocolate cookies
I have often made the Toll House choc chip recipe using milk chocolate chips. I love those cookies & I love milk chocolate too.
Best Lobster Roll on the Northshore
No question - The Barnacle in Marblehead. Great lobster rolls. Toasted bun, LOTS of lobster, a little bit of mayo and that's it. Plus great fries. However, not sure how the rest of the food is as all I ever get there is the lobster roll. There is some seating out on a patio right on the water. If it's nice out it might get crowded.
Potbellies (again!)
I had the chicken cutlet dinner there not too long ago. It was fried & very hot & greasy. It was a bit much for me but if you like it that way.. it was delicious. Definately tasty.
