Closest thing to good East Coast Diner Food in the OC?

Any suggestions for a classic type diner or at least good "diner food" in the OC?

Best Hot & Sour Soup????

In Oramge County, it's Golden Dragon on Harbor Blvd in Costa Mesa...easily the best I've ever had anywhere!

Foods you love at Trader Joe's that got discontinued? [OLD]

abs294...just had the Tarte d'Alsace last night. I'd never had it before and a clerk was right there stocking the pizzas so I asked him about it and he said it was their 2nd best seling just behind a Margherita. Definitely not discontinued here in Caifornia.

Bad Experience at Shibucho in Los Angeles. Are we the only ones?

It's simple really...when given the "leeway" of reputation, no itemization, etc, greed has a tendency to set in. Sad but absolutely true. Bet you don't go back.

Dark, atmospheric, vintage hidden gems

The Goodell's DID follow though and their place is called A Restaurant (in the old Arches space) I hear it's excellent.

A Restaurant is open (former Arches in Newport Beach)

The prices ARE on the online menu...the whole menu is kind of small so you probably just missed them. Overall, medium expensive, daily pasta specials look delicious and are pretty INEXPENSIVE...easily the best deals it looks to me.

Urasawa - World-Class Excellence in L.A.! [Review] w/ Pics

As to price...look at it this way. 35 dishes @ $300 is about $8.50 ea. Not bad when every course appears to be world-class cuisine. However, I seriously doubt I could eat all 35 dishes (or if I could, I probably wouldn't enjoy the last half dozen or so due to pain). My wish would be for them to cut down the courses to 23 (which I'm sure would be just as satisfying and enthralling), making the price point $195pp. I guarantee his reservation list would lengthen as well..

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Best Hot Fudge Sundae

Surry...ban me...BUT Norm's Hot Fudge Schooner is made with a bunch of scoops of great ice cream, tons of HOT hot fudge, and a major pile of whipped cream.. I defy anyone who actually goes to a Norm's and tries one to disagree with me. And it's available 24/7 365 lol.

A Restaurant is open (former Arches in Newport Beach)

I've been waiting for this post! I'm in Newport once a week like clockwork and was shocked when I drove by once and The Arches was closed...think it had been there since the '30's or something. Now i read the Goodell's have opened there (Aubergine had been one of my favorites) and with the review cdmedici has posted, can't wait. Peculiar name though lol.

Dark, atmospheric, vintage hidden gems

Last time 2 or 3 times I've driven by The Arches, it was surrounded by storm fences, plastic sheeting and sandbags...in other words, CLOSED! I was shocked...I've been going there for about 30 years and it's been threre for about 80. Please somebody post that it's reopened!!!

Foods you love at Trader Joe's that got discontinued? [OLD]

Can't believe no one's mentioned the Chicken Masala frozen entree in the yelllow box. Deelish red curry chicken w/brown rice I've eaten at least once a week for probably 20 years. All of the sudden it's gone...look everytime i'm there for the last 3 or 4 months.
Waaah!

good sushi in Orange County?

I'm shocked I never see Ango Tei in Costa Mesa (Bristol and Paularino) mentioned in these OC sushi threads. I've been eating there for 20 years and I've never talked to anyone there who doesn't say that it's their fave sushi joint. Prominent Japanese clientele, great selection, been in their little strip mall location forever (did an interior facelift a few years ago), identical high quality every time, even the wasabi and ginger tastes better there. I can't be the only hound hip to this place...somebody verify that for me. Anyway, you won't be disappointed. period.
