Found in Longo's: Delifrance frozen croissant & pain au chocolat

Our Longo's (Ponytrail) has had these on and off for a while now. We love them and pick up a couple or three packages anytime their on the shelf. Nice and flaky. The inside is a tad moister than a bakery croissant, but very acceptable. A buck per croissant seems a tad pricy, but I guess that's what one pays for the "anytime" convenience. They are in the dessert section of our Longo's, too. I guess to accommodate the chocolate ones.

Looking for Fresh Chile Peppers

I've no problem with substitutes, unless testing a recipe, at which point I must use the exact ingredients. I live (and shop) by Longo's, but mine has the regular run of peppers only. Thank you for the substitution suggestions, though.

I've found dry chiles at a shop along Bloor (I think near Dufferin). It's a Portuguese store that seems to carry a few Mexican items, too. I believe that's the store, but I've only been there once.

BTW - If I find something, I'll report back. I need these before Christmas.

Looking for Fresh Chile Peppers

I've been trying to locate Latino shops and just now found a reference to one on Hurontario a little North of Dundas. Another reference was for Mavis/Eglinton NoFrills. I travel past both places regularly, so I can check them out. I don't get to Kensington much, though I will look next time through. Thanks for the input!

Looking for Fresh Chile Peppers

Yes, it seems Ancho is dred poblano, so "fresh" is not possible. It's been a while since I've looked into obtaining them. Thank you for your response.

Looking for Fresh Chile Peppers

Howdy!

I seem to be having a devil of a time finding fresh Ancho and Serrano chiles.

I live in the Dixie Burnhamthorpe area and occasionally the Loblaw Store by HWY427 has them, but not often. Any ideas on where I could find a more reliable source would be greatly appreciated.

Try calling these folks. It's not a big store, but they have a reasonable layout.

pork blood

If you live in the Mississauga area, I've seen it in a large store called Grant's on the Northeast corner of Dixie and Bloor. It's an Asian supermarket with all kinds of interesting things.

Restaurants with an Outdoor Patio

We live near Dixie/Burnhamthorpe and I'm looking for a nice restaurant with a nice outdoor patio atmosphere. Something for a brunch/lunch (licensed), price isn't a concern. I'm not having much luck looking through the pages here. I don't want to travel too far, though (downtown Toronto is too far, Square One is not). I'm aware of On The Curve by Square One, and Snug Harbour in Port Credit, but not much else. Thank you very much in advance.

Ribfests- opinions?

We have only been to the RibFest at Centennial Park in Etobicoke. Every year for the past 6 years, we've been trying EVERY ribber's wares. We haven't seen the quality vary a lot by day, but it definitely varies by vendor and each year, the individual vendor's quality seems to vary.

It may depend on when you get there, too. We try to get there before noon each day, so the lines aren't bad. The later you go, the longer you wait. Don't trust the lineups, though. They are not always for the best ribs! We see some wagons have more of a lineup than others, so we usually choose the shortest. If you have to have one particular product, go with a small group. One or two persons wait in line, the others go and get the beer for them, which makes waiting tolerable!

Some (but by no means all) of our faves: Bad Wolf, Camp 31, Bibb's, Uncle Sam's.

where is the best fish and chips in Toronto/GTA??

Every time we go for F&C, we go to Belfast Lounge and have yet to be disappointed. They have a great steak pie, too! Not "in Toronto", so it's somewhat out of the way (Dixie, couple blocks north of Eglinton in Mississauga) so you probably wouldn't make the trip expressly for that purpose. If you're in the neighbourhood, though...
