OC Dessert places for takeout??

Help! Going to a bbq in Newport Beach tonight and I need to bring dessert. Anyone know of any great dessert places where I can pickup a good pie, cupcakes, cake, or something else? Driving down from Culver City, so if there are places in Costa Mesa or Newport it would be perfect...

First Trip To LA, Recommendations Needed

I second Loteria as well as Hirozen for sushi... Also love Terri's on Melrose at Cahuenga for Mexican. However, with all due respect, not a big fan of Griddle or Dupars... I would recommend the following breakfast/brunch spots as far superior: Quality Cafe on 3rd St, near the Farmers Mkt, Toast also on 3rd St (fun scene on wkends and good food), Bloom Cafe on Pico, Hugo's on Santa Monica Blvd, Salt's Cure on Santa Monica Blvd, Square One on Fountain in Silver Lake... a bit further, but delicsh!

5 hour layover at LAX - accessible by taxi

Venice is not too far from the airport and there are a great number of excellent restaurants on Abbot Kinney Blvd. Also, consider Manhattan Beach and Marina del Rey. If it were me, I would cab it to Venice and go to Gjelina or 3 Square Cafe. Probably a 10-15 minute cab ride from LAX.

Seafood downtown Seattle

Blueacre is right downtown - only tried it once but had great seafood there. Owned by same owners as Steelhead Diner (which is also downtown in Pike Place mkt. Also, probably better is Anchovies and Olives in Capital Hill - not far from Downtown.

I'm bored with OC Restaurants

Try Sage in Newport Beach.. actually, there are 2 of them: one in Eastbluff (been several times and always enjoy) and the other in Crystal Cove (never tried this one). The food is really great, especially for the OC. Decent atmosphere.

Social Hollywood, should I bother going?

I've been twice, and while the food is generally good (don't order the tuna though - I had it last time and it was bland and disappointing), the atmosphere is great, and the service very good too, it is quite pricey. Last time, the cost for four people (with about 6 cocktails, no wine, and no dessert) was about $450. Alot of money considering we skipped wine and dessert.

Matzo Ball Soup Challenge

Thanks Diana! Wow, Michael S. seems to need some real good MBS, and SOON! I bet that would sooth his temper. He's probably just stressed having to deal with the endless westside traffic nightmares, and darth of good restaurants out there! :-) Cheers, Mikey!

Dinner - La Cienega/3rd

Joan's on 3rd is a great casual spot with amazing sandwiches, soups and salads... and AWSOME desserts!! Just east of La Cienega a couple of blocks.

Mid-priced in Newport Beach?

Sage is a great restaurant and fairly priced for the food quality. There are 2 Sage Restaurants in Newport - one in Eastbluff, the other in Newport Coast (Crystal Cove Shopping Center). No views, but excellent food. And yes, bars in both.

Great food gift to take to San Francisco from LA?

If you can bring it in a carry on bag, the red velvet cake at Doughboys on 3rd Street is the bomb!!! and it stores well...
