Anyone been to Malaga?
I have eaten at a Malaga quite a few times over the years (both at the old location on 4th and the new one on 2nd). While the food is good and it can be a fun atmosphere the service is consistently poor. I normally don't have a problem overlooking bad service especially if other aspects are good but in this case I refuse to voluntarily go there.
I don't consider myself a demanding diner either. I am surprised this hasn't come up.
Arriving late on Friday night, where to eat (UESish)?
My wife and I are visiting NYC for the first time together and wont make it into the city until 12am on a Friday night. We are staying in the upper east side but are open to other locations if there is better dining / atmosphere to be found. We are younger, enjoy a few drinks, maybe some people watching (but not too loud).
Any suggestions?
A friend of our recommended Blue Ribbon Cafe since its open till 4am but it is a little bit of a trek (or is it?).
Thanks!
Uncle Billy's - anybody been?
I ate there with the woman a couple weeks ago and enjoyed our meal. The brisket was great... a lot of flavor and just the right moistness. I would definitely go again.
Butcher Shop
What about a good place to get "back" bacon (english bacon)? I haven't been able to find a butcher in town that knows how to do the cut.
Sushi South
Seoul is great! It is a small place in a strip mall that seems out of place for a sushi resteraunt however for the price it is hard to beat. No its not as good as Uchi however the price is a lot more reasonable and it has a more casual feeling. I would highly recommend checking it out. Mike's roll (fried) is great.
Hoek's Pizza Shuts It's Doors This Saturday Night
Does anyone know what the Alamo is planning on doing with this space? It seems like they would use it for the kitchen but would they keep the pizza window open? I hope they serve Hoek's pizza instead of Alamo pizza. =)
Wink - big disappointment
I have eaten at Wink once and had a good meal but in my opinion not worth what was charged for it. Perhaps it was an off night. I would highly recommend their wine bar however. I have been there many times and found the owner manning the bar and provides great conversation and recommendations. I would suggest going there on a week night when they are not as busy and just ordering appetizers.
Roaring Fork had a fire?
The fork was open for dinner that evening so I assume the damaged was not as severe as it sounds.
Capital Brasserie
Plus they have Hoegarden on tap. It is a shame they no longer have Lambics as it was quite good mixed with Hoegarden.
Lambert's
I wouldn't say they are "that nice" but at the same time they are nicer than any other Austin BBQ place you have been to. I went on a Friday night (Jan 12th) and waited about 30 minutes for a table for two (was able to sit at their awesome bar and have an appetizer while we waited). I would recommend reservations to avoid waiting but by no means are they required.
