Need an Italian Reco in CT

Portifino in New Haven (think that's the name) on State St.
Campania in Branford
Anthony's in Guilford

Nellie Green's, Branford, CT.

I haven't been there this year yet, but last year definitely enjoyed the food. Now I'm anxious to go there! Also, another good place for seafood is in Guilford - Guilford Mooring.

Ok New Haven Hounds, tell me about the good pizza in New Haven that is NOT Sally's, Pepe's, Modern or Bar...

Marco's in Branford - excellent - I always get a garlic, broccoli, bacon white pizza.

Shangri-La Chinrese restaurant, Guilford, CT

Guess i should have checked my spelling - "Chinese" - oh well, it's late and I worked today and am tired!!!

Shangri-La Chinrese restaurant, Guilford, CT

Had take-out from there the other day - it was very good. Better than any take-out places in Branford, CT. My favorate is Taste of China in Clinton, but don't always want to drive that far. We enjoyed everything we had from Shangri-La. I will definitely go there again. We had pork fried rice, Yang Chow fried rice, the dim sum platter, chicken pan fried noodles, and spring rolls. Have to say we did not like the spring rolls - they were the veg ones which i didn't order. We threw them out - the dog wouldn't even eat them. I do look forward to going there again and getting other things on the menu.

any suggestions for New Haven?...would like a really good place for dinner...no pizza, please

Portofino on State Street - great Italian food and good service.

Thanksgiving dinner in Branford or Guilford, CT

Thanks - also found out that WatersEdge in Westbrook, LaLuna in Branford, and Carmen Anthony in New Haven are all having Thanksgiving dinners.

Thanksgiving dinner in Branford or Guilford, CT

Anyone know of restaurants on CT shoreline (Branford, Guilford, Madison) serving a Thanksgiving meal (not brunch)? Last minute decision to eat out.

Newport Dinner: Black Pearl, Mooring or the Pier?

I'd say mooring - only had appetizers there, esp the bag of donuts. But, when we looked at the menu we wanted to go back for dinner but had reservations elsewhere, so Mooring is on our list the next time we go to newport.

Any must try restaurants in the Clinton/Guilford CT area?

Lenny and Joes Fishtale - Madison and Westbrook
Guilford Mooring
Bar Bouchon in Madison
In Branford: The Surburban, Foe, Assagio, Campania
Taste of China in Clinton

Louis' Lunch: No Bun, No Problem

I've been there several times - years ago. The first time i went was because of the history and then again several times since I worked in the area. I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe the burger has gotten better, but I doubt if I'll be back to try it. There are other places with a better burger.

Blue Cottage (Branford, CT)

I think the food at Blue Cottage was better last summer. They don't seem to be consistent. I've had some great onion rings there but another time they were ho hum. Guess I have to try it again and give them another chance but not anytime soon. I haven't been to Lenny and Joe's, Madison yet this summer so that's where I'll go next.

Best Fried Food, CT...

The appetizers at Donovan's are good, but I think their entrees used to be better - recently had a steak there and it wasn't as good as it was years ago - the salad they served was tired and the sides (mashed potatoes and spinach) were mediocore at best. But we do like to go for a drink and the appetizers - esp. like the fried artichokes.

Best Fried Food, CT...

I like sweet potato fries and think the best are at Donovan's Reef in Branford. I liked the fried chicken at Townhouse Diner in Branford, but unfortunately they have closed. I love fried chicken and will be interested in replies to your post!

Visiting Newport in late August....

I agree with you about Flo's - we went last Fall and were very disappointed. Also, were disappointed with Brick Alley Pub. The Mooring was excellent. Went to Red Parrot and liked it - the food was good, we especially liked the seafood cocktail (lobster, shrimp, crab), but there are much better restaurants to go to in Newport.

Visiting Newport in late August....

Where did you stop for dinner?

Augis's Restaurant, Branford,CT

Augis's is located 130 Shore Drive, Branford, CT. 203-315-8200. We ate there recently and enjoyed it very much. It's located where Che Tango used to be. I had fish and chips and my daughter had the pork chop. Both meals were excellent. The waitstaff were attentive and friendly. We want to go back soon. Then, a friend of my daughters went and didn't like her meal at all (she had the pork chop). I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this restaurant and what your thoughts are.

Nice large group dinner -- between Mystic, CT and New Haven

You might check Water's Edge in Westbrook - don't know about their prices but know they are on the water and have good views. Or, La Luna Ristorante in Branford - they have good food at reasonable prices and take reservations and have space for large partys. Check the websites for both restaurants - i don't have the site info at hand.

The Suburban, Branford, CT

I look forward to your report!

The Suburban, Branford, CT

am curious - did you enjoy your dinner there? Actually there were some replies to my original post - someone went there and posted and i answered and now i don't see those posts. Anyway, i really enjoyed my dinner there - the popovers were delicious and so were our meals. I'm looking forward to going back and also to the mex. place that will open hopefully in the fall.

The Suburban, Branford, CT

The Suburban is now open. I went by earlier this week and there was no sign - today there was a sign. We made reservations for tonight - they didn't have many openings. I'm looking forward to trying their food!!

Surburban open yet in Branford?

It isn't open yet. Looks like rennovations are going on, but haven't heard anything.

Surburban open yet in Branford?

Surburban is not yet open. I happened to drive by this am and the sign says it's opening in late winter.

Nine East in Branford, CT

New hibachi restaurant in Branford. Has anyone been there?

Brunch in Branford, CT

La Luna is my favorite - just don't go there on a holiday!

Campania in Branford, CT

went to Campania on Route 1 in Branford last night (tired of Thanksgiving leftovers and wanted Italian). It was excellent - much better than Pasta Cosi in Branford where we went a month ago. The olive oil for the bread was delicious, as was the small bean salad (they used to serve marinated olives when you sat down). I had pasta and meatballs, braccioli, and sausage in sauce. One had the eggplant (she tried my meatballs and said it reminded her of her grandmother's), and another had the fish special - can't remember what kind of fish but it was cooked perfectly and was delicious.. Everything was so good. They also had osso bucco as a special that I would like to try in the future. Service was friendly, attentive and professional. I'm looking forward to going again soon. We tried to go there a couple of weeks ago but couldn't get in (a 2 hr. wait), so reservations are suggested.

Newport R.I. restaurants

I would suggest The Mooring. I liked their menu and we wanted to eat there but weren't able to get reservations at the last minute.

Restaurant that serves Moose dishes in N.E.?

You might check out Foster's in New Haven. I know he occasionally serves game meats.

Ballou's Wine Bar, Guilford, CT

I think I enjoyed the wine choices and ambiance most when i was there. I wouldn't get the fondue or meat plate appetizer again - you're right, they were skimpy. I would get the salad again. Also, I'd like to try the panini's. But there are other places I want to try before I go back there again.

Bachelorette party in Newport, RI

I don't know about tapas, but I'd recommend "The Red Parrrot" as a fun place and excellent food. We had appetizers there and then went back for dinner - the food was that good! Or another restaurant I tried was H2O - we had appetizers there that were really good but didn't have dinner there but i liked their menu - check menus on line for these restaurants. Also, The Brick Alley has good food but is a noisy, busy place - don't know about the space they would have for a party. You might want to check out "The Mooring" that also has excellent food.
