Where [NOT] to eat in Northeast PA
Bo Brothers, Wyoming, Pennsylvania
Due to my love of food, especially good barbecue, I must confess that on a recent trip to a new local restaurant I was victimized. The place of the attack was "Bo Brothers" on Wyoming Avenue. ... It was a Tuesday night and we arrived around 5:00 p.m.. There was a light snow falling which created a great backdrop for enjoying some of their self-proclaimed "We Smoke it" barbecue. Now, don't get me wrong, the service was okay.. the restaurant itself was nice, definitely very clean, but the food left much, much to be desired. ... I placed an order for the "Big Beef on a Bun," which according to its menu description is sliced BRISKET piled high. Unfortunately, I DO NOT think I received brisket. It was unbelievably dry, perhaps even the wrong cut (looking eerily similar to thinly sliced eye round), and downright disgusting. If I wasn't so hungry when I sat down, after the first bite I would've sent it back and demanded something different. I take my food seriously..I only get three chances at a great meal per day and Bo Brothers ruined that one. On the other hand, there Bo Burger was decent. It was topped with pulled pork, but seemed a bit more commercially shredded than 'pulled.' So, test the waters if you so choose, but I cannot recommend Bo Brothers.
Please note: I am not a food expert. I am merely a novice at-home chef/barbecuer who samples local fare and thinks that when restaurants, as the one listed above, charge $7 for a sandwich (w/out fries) you should get what you pay for. Perhaps my expectations are too high. I've had REAL brisket down south and I've smoked it myself in my own backyard... and neither time did it appear or taste anywhere near remotely as generic as what I was served at this restaurant.
Best Wedding Reception Location(s) is NEPA?
Sorry it's been so long since my last posting! Thank you to everyone who posted all of your ideas were a great help. Ultimately, incase anybody is wondering, we've decided to have our wedding at the newly established Mt. Carmel Parish Center in Pittston. They do not provide food services, but do have a large commercial kitchen, so we've contracted Lafratte's "A Little Taste of New York" Restaurant in Pittston to cater the wedding. His food is phenomenal and he has been nothing but superb in accommodating our every request. I would highly recommend Lafratte's in Pittston for it's food and service to anybody looking for a great caterer! To everybody who responded, thanks again!
Best Wedding Reception Location(s) is NEPA?
The reception will likely take place in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. Although locations within a reasonable radius (10-15 miles) are also being considered.
Best place to eat near The Met?
The trip is a requirement for a class they're taking this semester so the school is footing the bill. Thus, the price range is fairly wide open. ... I really like the sound of the Heidelberg Restaurant. Good, heart German food would be great for the long ride home. Thanks for all your advice. I'll be sure to give them a list of options from your recommendations.
Best place to eat near The Met?
In a few weeks I'll be taking a small group on a tour of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. They're all college students and most of them want to have a meal together before we leave the city that day. Any recommendations? Within walking distance would be preferable, but any opinion on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.
Best Wedding Reception Location(s) is NEPA?
Thanks for your interest in helping. Food IS a priority but it's about on par with other things. However, I'm willing to splurge a little for a good menu. Specific types of food are not required as our tastes vary widely. ... We've cut it down to about 240-250 since my initial posting, but it's still large. Any advice/ideas you may have about vendors (caterers, florists, DJ's, etc.) would be GREATLY appreciated.
Best Catered Food in Wyoming Valley?
I'm in search of a good Caterer for a Wedding Reception. Can anybody offer any advice or helpful tips?
Best Wedding Reception Location(s) is NEPA?
My fiancee and I just got engaged on Christmas. We are prospecting Wedding Reception locations in Northeast PA and having not eaten at all the places we're looking at, does anybody have tips or ideas on different reception locations and how good the food is? The facility must accomodate approximately 300 people. Thanks in advance.
Kielbasa in NEPA?
The Best Kielbasa is NEPA can be found every year at the Plymouth Kielbasa Festival. It features Homemade varieties as well as varities produced locally for retail sale. In my opinion, the best I've tasted (which is alot since my fiancee's family is Polish) have come from Komensky's Market (Main St., Duryea), Sabatelle's Market (Main. St, Pittston) and The Hub, which is a small store in Main. St, Dupont. All are homemade and excellent.
Wheat Beer
If you're in search of a good Hefeweizen I would recommed either Franziskaner (made by Spaten) or Paulaner. Both are enjoyable wheat beers. However, if it's a Belgian Witbier you're after, you cannot go wrong with Ommegang White. The beer itself is brewed domestically in Cooperstown, NY, but lest we forget that Ommegang is a subsidiary of Duvel, a magnificent company and the creators of the astoundingly good Duvel Golden Ale.
