Best Boston Burger

Was going to mention Five Guys as well..loved it all - the cheeseburger, the oustanding handcut fries. Yum! Well worth the wait, I think.

argentinian steakhouse?

Not sure if they do, but I have to say, it's darned good! They definitely use argentinian technique when they prepare meals.

O'Leary's in Brookline

I love going to O'Leary's for a drink (they have Boddington's - one of my favorites). For food I'd say it decent, but nothing outstanding. It's all about comfort though, and is a great place to pop into on a cold night.

Looking for a gourmet-to-go place Hingham, MA.

Perhaps a gift card to Whole Foods in Hingham will do the trick? Lots of prepared healthy foods at their HIngham location. There's also Bare Cove Gourmet Catering - they offer retail as well (she can order and pick up at their retail shop).

Fenway Restaurant fires

It's such a shame - I have lots of great memories of hanging outside at Thornton's in the summertime during some of my (misspent) youth. I hope most of them can rebuild.

Birthday dinner with "curtained table" or private room

I was thinking the same thing about McCormack & Schmicks, but the one at Faneuil Hall - I know they have those curtained banquettes upstairs.

Need to order a dinner to take home in Braintree area

Hi all, my brother and his family are coming over next Sunday for a belated Christmas gathering. We've already gone through the holidays cooking a number of meals, and we're hoping for an easier way out of this. Any recommendations for take home meals? Either Turkey or Beef w/the trimmings kind of deal. Thanks

South Shore Restaurants?

I'll 3d Viola, and 2d Ecco. That's become my fav Italian in the area. Recent place we've been to and love include Solstice in Kingston (outstanding service, and simply prepared, but excellent seafood.) I loved Loco Tapas in Easton, but need to get to it again - haven't been back since they moved.

Meeting in Plymouth or Kingston for dinner

Hi all,

There is a small group of coworkers meeting in the Plymouth or Kingston area for dinner on a Monday evening. They like finer dining and we've typically leaned toward Italian or Seafood w/this crowd.

I've found a couple places online. One was Solstice in Kingston, and the other was 14 Union in Plymouth. Does anyone know anything about either place? Are they worth going to? Any preference? Or, any place w/in that price point in the general area is gladly encouraged.

Thanks

The Winery on 53 - has anyone been yet?

Hi all, I noticed a clipping in the paper for a new place that took over where Bobby Hacketts was - the Winery on 53. Has anyone been? I'm curious about it. We have a group getting together in a couple weeks...something mid ranged, w/nice food in that area would suit us well. Thanks!

Dinner at Orinoco in Brookline

I agree w/you, HB...I think it's a place to go w/a few friends who don't mind talking over the din (or I guess go very early for dinner). If they'd just remove one table and one bar stool, I think they'd have a great set up.

I'll put my vote in for Wild Willy's as well...I'm also a big fan of Zon's burgers too!

Wow, that sounds great - where in Dedham is it?

North End "Must-Stops"

The North End Cheese Shop on Endicott street is pretty cool. Especially if you include the mob connections to the aura. It's a fun shop though - definitely a North End Experience.
For pastry I agree w/Opinionated Chef - Modern is outstanding. I love their canolli - always filled to order.
Definitely go to V.Cirace on North St for wine tastings. It's a fun store as well with great gift baskets, etc.

Patou Last Night (Belmont)

It's a great place for people watching. Some of the more eccentric characters dining nearby, that's for sure.

Sports bar - South Shore area

Varsity Club, for all it's cheesiness, is a good option. The food is decent, tons of TVs, the staff have always been good. And, they focus on the game! One of my favorite places to watch a football game is the Alumni. Get a pizza, some beer and kick back and watch the game. That's what everyone around you is focused on as well.

The Best South Shore Bar Pizza

The last couple times I tried them, I didnt like it. The crust and sauce seemed kind of stale. I used to love them, about 10 years ago, but have been disappointed in the past few years

The Best South Shore Bar Pizza

I used to go to Bella's as a kid when they were in Braintree. I never made it over there once they relocated.

I'm still a fan of Lynnwood, Alumni, Cronin's, Halfway, Christo's, Denleys (not sure that's bar style though). I guess there are a few spots I need to check out in the meantime.

Shanti and Tavelo

I haven't been to Tavelo. But we go to Shanit every so often. Their food is good, not the best Indian around, but not bad, either. I typically go for the chicken tikka masala (I'm not the most adventurous food taster!).

Christos in Brockton?

It's one of those places you need to know what to order. Their pizza's a great bar pizza style, and yes, I always order a separate greek salad. Their dressing is one of my favorite.

North Conway

I forgot about Moat Mountain - yes, they are good. And typically great beers to boot.

North Conway

Thompson House Eatery in Jackson (just up the road from N Conway), is one of my favorite dining spots anywhere.
I like Horsefeathers for lunch (so does the rest of the N Conway visitors though).
Stonehurst has a surprisingly varied menu ranging from great pizza to finer dining.
I wasn't a fan of Muddy Moose- the server was rude; the food so-so

Reggio (Weymouth) and Giomatti (Braintree)

Gennaro's is a good red sauce option. It gets pretty busy on a Saturday night though, to be warned. I love Tulio's, but I've heard they're closed for the summer. Anyone here if that's true or are they closing for good?

Quiet watering hole with craft beer?

O'Leary's in Brookline has a nice selection of beers, particularly Boddington's (one of my personal favorites). It's pretty quiet place, and great staff working there.

Weekday Early Cocktails Downtown

I love the Last Hurrah over in the Omni Parker House. Fine Scotch's and some cool signature drinks. I haven't gone that early but it's a hotel bar so I'd think they'd be open at 3. The bar tenders have always been knowledgeable and very amiable.

SF Chowhounds in Boston

Addis Red Sea is something kind of fun to do - Ethiopian food you eat w/the flat bread that is served with the meal (no utensils). Addis is on Tremont St in Boston. For less expensive Italian in the North End, I do love Pizzeria Regina - it serves great pizza (get a large, well-done and don't go too heavy on the toppings). One of my favorite restaurants is Grotto. It's located on Beacon Hill (Bowdoin St). They offer a great Gnocci w/Short Rib dish that's worth every calorie.

I agree with Carty about the Summer Shack - it gets a lot of flack, but I think they do seafood well there. Partcularly Lobster.

Let us know where you end up!

Good Eats in Asheville, NC?

My BF and I just got back from a mini vacation in Asheville. We enjoyed a few great meals there, including:

Flying Frog - funky combination - German and Indian food. We had a bit of both and while the Saag was different from what we've had in the Boston area, was still delicious. The Schnitzel was outstanding. Service and style both great.

Salsa's - very casual place, but the pork empenada and jerk chicken enchiladas were better than anything I've had back home. Full of complex flavors. (Definitely get the Papusa if you go for an appetizer).

We took a sidetrip to Black Mountain one day - had brunch at Que Sera - both of us really enjoyed great meals and service there. I had banana french toast and BF had country ham and eggs.

Jerusalem Cafe for lunch another day - we enjoyed splitting a falafel sandwich and the vegetarian plate. Very fresh and tasty!

The owners at the Inn recommended the Fiddlin' Pig to catch some great country and blues music. We never got there though - ran out of time.

Il Panino regrets

Hmm..I wonder if they change out the menu between lunch and dinner? Never thought of that.

Raleigh (1 night) & Asheville (3 nights) NC

Hi all, my BF and I are heading to NC for a long overdue vacation. Are there places in Raleigh and Asheville (I know - not close together at all) that you consider "can't miss"? We love pretty much any kind of food, as long as it's tasty. We have a lot of Italian and Seafood in the Boston area, so we're hoping for something differnt when we go. Thanks!

Red Sauce Italian in North End

I wrote about it 2 weeks ago, I think. We went for a friends birthday. I liked the patio, and the service was good, but the food was only okay, and was pretty high priced for what we were given. Also, they no longer had the porcini mushroom or lobster rav's on the menu.

For my money, I'd go to either Mother Anna's or Rabia's for a good red sauce restaurant. I love the eggplant rolatini at MA's and the Penne Putanesca at Rabia's is outstanding (as is their porcini mushroom ravioli). I know Rabia's makes their pasta daily - not sure about MAs.
