Christmas Eve Dining

Have been to Porter House on Christmas Eve which is lovely overlooking the park. Spotted Pig is open and fun, but no reservations. Little Owl is nice, too, if looking for a small, charming spot.

Christmas Eve dinner with teenagers who like steak houses

Thanks for all the great ideas — excellent suggestions. I hadn't thought of Minetta Tavern and think that could do it. Will try and get in and take it from there. Lots of other great thoughts, too, if that doesn't work. Really appreciate it! The boys will be happy.

Just thought of The Dutch which is kind of in the realm, but hope to get into Minetta.

Christmas Eve dinner with teenagers who like steak houses

Looking for a lively, atmospheric spot for Christmas Eve dinner with husband and two sons who love Porter House, Spotted Pig and Keens where we have gone other years, but looking for something different this year. My sons have sophisticated tastes and the restaurant does not need to be a true steak house, but they do like that type of a place. Thought Colicchio & Sons would be perfect in menu and atmosphere, but they are not open that night. Any neighborhood okay and price not too much of a concern. Thanks.

Any Tips on Getting into Rao's ?

Someone mentioned a charity event. Well, beware. Friends invited us to join them for a dinner they "won" at an event, so we said sure. Turned out what they'd bought was the privilege to actually eat here at someone's regular table. The cost of dinner (and it as high) was extra.

Often go to Tengda or Terra and looking for something new. Went to Elm St. Oyster Bar and was disappointed. Any nice new spots or good standbys you'd recommend for a weeknight dinner? Like all kinds of food as long as it's good and a nice atmosphere.

Lunch near Drexel campus?

Taking son on a college visit this Saturday and wondered if there are
any great lunch spots near the school. Can be chic or funky — just good. Thanks so much.

Dimitri's update, please

We used to love going to the funky dive Dimitri's (the one where you want for your table in a neighborhing bar). Are there a few now? Is the original still as great as it was? Thanksl

Casual/Romantic Downtown dinner...

How about Market Table on Carmine Street? Nice, neighborhood spot with reasonable prices. Has a hip, yet friendly and familiar feel. Very good food in the farm-to-table style.

Upper Darby area restaurants?

We're from out of town and looking for a really nice place for a family celebration in this area of PA. Diverse ages but like fine food and a nice atmosphere. Any ideas? Thanks!

Any great restaurants near the Waldorf?

Entertaining some friends from out of town who are very knowledgeable and discerning about food and restaurants. We have one night to go out and I'd like to take them somewhere really great along the lines of Balaboosta or Recette. But it will be late and if there's something good in that area, that would be preferable. I just can't think of anything that compares around there — somewhere cool, maybe on the new side, innovative, unique. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Dinner near MOMA on Saturday?

I would suggest Landmarc in the Time Warner Center (indoor space with other restaurants and shops to check out) around 59th and Columbus Circle. The Samsung store is a favorite for my teenagers. Just was in the same boat myself and this was perfect. They only take reservations for groups of 6 or more, so it seems like you may make the cut. It's very busy and there's a great selection of food for all tastes and ages. It's a large, lively, loft-like space with an industrial feel. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. And be sure to ask for the cotton candy at the end of the meal. It's an old tradition from Landmarc's downtown locale and your teenagers will think it's fun. This neighborhood doesn't offer much in this category, so I highly recommend this options! If you want to go for the big bucks, my kids love Porter House, a pricey steak house also in the Time Warner, but I think Landmarc better fits what you've asked for.

Easter lunch or dinner within 30 minutes of Media

Looking to dine within half an hour of Media PA for lunch or early dinner on Easter Sunday. Price is not a concern and want a place with great food, nice atmosphere and a leisurely pace as we'll be with a group of six ranging from 16 to 87 years of age. Perhaps a good restaurant in a country inn, but open to all suggestions with a nice atmosphere and a good chef and menu. Thanks!

Scandinavian Bakery in NYC? ISO Semla/Semlor

You may want to try Fika: http://www.fikanyc.com/res/default/pr...

The one I go to is on Park Ave. S around 29th St. It's a Swedish coffee bar with baked goods, some authentic and Swedish. They sell a Swedish baking book there, so it seems to be the real thing. Give them a try! It's a lovely place with nice design.

Scandinavian restaurant in NYC?

I started this post, so thanks for the suggestions. Asiansupper posted the Vandaag link above and I read the excellent review in today's NY Times today and I thought it was a good possibility. Deemed as Dutch in origin, I noticed herring, grav lax and other Scandinavian types of fare. Menu looks really innovative.

Scandinavian restaurant in NYC?

Used to love dining at the old Copenhagen restaurant in the fifties on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately, it's long gone. Aside from Aquavit, is there a restaurant that serves this kind of fare? Smorgaasbord (spelling?), lots herring, vodka in ice, etc. Swedish mother is visiting for the holidays and would love to take her to a great spot - if one exists. Thanks!

Three dinners in Palm Springs area?

Trio is a must. Best, coolest, most welcoming, fun place in town. It's fabulous for all tastes and all ages. Best breakfast is Cheeky's across the street - only open till 3PM, so go for breakfast or lunch. Best fine dining is Johannes which just started serving lunch. Casually elegant and absolutely wonderful every time. Best atmosphere is La Valouris (check spelling) with a gorgeous garden and very elegant fare. May be too hot if you're going soon, but it's lovely. Inside is okay, but the garden is gorgeous. Spencer's is fun for a type of rat pack ambiance and the food is fine. Another lovely place is the Purple Palm located in the pool area of the Colony Palms Hotel. Have fun! All are excellent.

Best fish shack in LBI - Long Beach Island?

Hi there,

We have reservations at Daddy O's and Plantation, (any opinions welcome), but as the trip comes closer, I'm in the mood for some good simple seafood at a place with a water view (hopefully). Old and funky is fine. Just want something local, great, friendly and not too hard to get into on a Saturday. Don't mind a wait if there's a good bar. Thanks so much!!

A few good dinners in Manchester VT area?

Hi there,

We are spending a week in Manchester and would like recommendations for the best casual places to go with teenagers and one or two nice places with great food to go without kids. We LOVE Hen of the Wood in Waterbury — anything in this area that even approaches that fabulous place? Thanks!

Love it. It's great for anyone. How often can you say that?? Reasonably priced for how good it is. Food arrives quickly, even when it's incredibly busy which is also a plus when you're with kids. Was there last night and sat next to a large table with young children.

Westchester place to have 14-yr-old boy's b'day dinner w/friends?

Chat 19 in Larchmont is lively and has food kids like. Haiku for sushi and Asian food on Mam'k Ave. in Mamaroneck. Jinban for same further up on Mam'k Ave. isn't as good but has a glitzy atmosphere kids like. Kids do like Fuji Mountain. Also, Sherwood's in Larchmont is a popular place for ribs.

Going to St. Ann's Warehouse at 1 on Sunday and looking for a great brunch spot in the area or a nice bar for cocktails after the show. Will have a car, so okay if it's not right there. Would appreciate any advice. Thank you!

Need Christmas Eve restaurant suggestions!!

Check out Olana in the Flatiron district. It's romantic, luxurious and beautiful and the food is superb. Not sure if it's open that night. No view, but gorgeous and a bit undersung for what it is. Restaurants with views tend to not be very good. River Cafe is a good suggestion if that's what you're looking for.
