The Modern - Dining Room

I went to the Modern a month ago and the food was great. Of the whole meal, the one that stood out was the "palate cleanser" after the entree. It was served on a silver spoon with chilled fruits(rhubard, strawberries?) and some sort of sorbet?. It was cold, refreshing and was probably one of the best things I've had in a long time. For those who went recently, can you clarify what the contents of that spoon was and how to recreat it at home? Thanks

The Stanton Social

I went to the Stanton Social on Saturday and the food was horrible. The first time I went was approx a year ago and thought the food was outstanding. Ordered the kobe beef sliders, pull pork and lobster rolls, onion soup dumplings, the rock shrimp crepes and chicken and waffles. All were either way too salty or too bland(rock shrimp). I am fairly dissapointed and will not be going back there anytime soon.

overrated restaurants

Same here, Clinton Street doesn't deserve to be on the list. The 2 hour wait is ridiculous but the food, especially the banana walnut pancakes with warm maple butter makes up for it. Maybe the biscuits are overrated.

overrated restaurants

After reading all of these post, i couldn't wait to respond. Im really shocked Fatty Crab wasn't on the list. This place is definitely overrated and pretty bad. Went there the second time, hoping that the food would be better and it was equally as bad as the first time. My List:
Fatty Crab
Shake Shack
Morimoto's
Megu
'Wichcraft
Lombardi's
Ed's Lobster Shack
Agave
Rosa Mexicano
Joe's Shanghai

Burger Joint- First Time Revieww

The burger joint is okay. Yes, the atmosphere is different than most nyc restaurants, but their burgers are subpar. It's overpriced at $7 for a measly cheeseburger. Their fries are good, as they are from the same company who supplies to Mickey D's. If you want a good burger for less price with bacon, I say Corner Bistro is still the best and their prices are reasonable. The atmosphere isn't the best but the burgers make up for it.
As for Shake Shake, I went last May and thought the burgers were just okay. Maybe I went on an off day, but will go and check it out soon.

Ed's Lobster Bar in SoHo

I forgot to mention in my previous post about the horrible service. The guy who was working the door with glass did a horrible job. Yes, i am putting the short stubby guy with glass on blast. He said it was a 30 minute wait. Okay that's reasonable but soon after the 45 minute mark, he was letting people in who placed their names after I did. After 1+ hour wait for a seat, it wasn't worth it. Save your money and go else where. We'll see how long Ed's will last after the dailycandy crowd dissipates.

EMP - The essential "What to order?" list

Thank guys for the reply. I'll post a review prob next week about my first EMP experience. Any more suggestions, please contribute to this thread, so I can experience EMP at it's finest.

Banh Mi?

Saigon Banh Mi's still reigns supreme. Haven't tried Momofuku Ssam's banh mi yet but heard great reviews.

EMP - The essential "What to order?" list

I am aware of the $145 gourmand tasting where it's the set menu; was looking more about which dishes to choose for the lesser pre-fixe options. Thanks RGR for your reply. Any other suggestions?

EMP - The essential "What to order?" list

After reading positive reviews on various food boards, I will be going to Eleven Madison Park next friday for an anniversary dinner. Contemplating between the $96 and $145 pre fixe menu; what are the dishes that are "not to be missed"? Thanks

Ed's Lobster Bar in SoHo

Went to Ed's a week after it's grand opening and the food was subpar. The New England clam chowder was a joke. It was essentially 3/4 potatoes with 1 clam shell with minimal taste of the chowder. The whole chowder was very grainy and starchy from the superflous amounts of potatoes. The Lobster roll was way too small for $19 dollars. Very heavy on the mayo and celery and lacking on the lobster.. on a hot dog bun! The fried calamari was rubbery. Overall the experience was ehhh, definitely would not be going back anytime soon.
