Cooking Classes?

I took a french pastry class earlier this year through Helen's Kitchen, which I really enjoyed. It was a one night class held in the instructor's home.

Turducken

Wondering if anyone has seen this on menus in the area or available for purchase to cook at home. I believe it's the time of year for it. TIA!

Mooo...Worth It?

I took my husband there for his birthday in August and we both thought it was terrific (and we go to a LOT of steakhouses). The only disappointment was the ceasar salad. Everything else (steak, exotic mushrooms, mac and cheese as well as drinks not to mention the rolls they bring to start are to-die-for) was great and we both agreed it's a place we'd go back to in a heartbeat.

Board favorite restaurant veggie burgers?

Houston's has always been my favorite veggie burger and I was disappointed to not see it on the online menu for the Boston location recently. I hope your post means it's back or I just missed it! Agree the fries are great too.

Steak house near Newton?

My husband and I love the Met Bar! It's modern and lively and the food and drinks are great.

Lumiere is one of my all time favorites and another good choice though they usually only have one steak option on there menu (which is always terrific). If there are others in your party that like fish, lumiere does that very well too. In fact, everything on their menu is done very well in my opinion!

Grill 23 Dress Code

I dined there a little under 2 yrs ago and was shocked at how casually some of the patrons were dressed. There were definitely people in jeans - in fact, the couple at the table next to us were both in jeans. I also saw people in shorts and sandals. My DC and I specifically dressed up to dine there and while I would recommend you go that route as it is more appropriate considering the caliber of restaurant, I'm sure you will be fine in jeans and a button-down as well.

First time in Boston - 2 adults no kids - what are your favs?

My Place by the Sea in Rockport. Wonderful food (primarily seafood) and gorgeous view as it's on the water. Last time I went several years ago it was BYOB so we brought our own wine with us.

Tango Mango Waltham

Stopped in for a carnitas burrito on Friday and I stand by my original post about it being a good addition to Moody Street! Everything looked and tasted freshly made. Prices are reasonable and I was happy to see a near constant stream of people coming in while there.

New to the Neighborhood: West Newton/Moody Street

A few additional suggestions (most of my faves have already been mentioned):

-Biagio on Moody (by the train tracks) for terrific Italian in a beautiful setting. Also have an upstairs lounge and outdoor patio.
-Sabatino's - in addition to pizza, their specialty pastas are great. And they come with wonderful pizza dough rolls a la Bertucci's!
-Erawan of Siam on Moody is my go-to thai place.

cool lounge/restaurant in Cambridge/Boston/Waltham?

Biagio in Waltham has an upstairs lounge w/ a bar and couches and low lighting - very modern and chic looking. I've only eaten downstairs, but wandered upstairs out of curiousity my last time there and ever since have wanted to check it out on a Fri or Sat night.

Sabatino's.....yum

We go to Sabatino's in Waltham and in addition to the pizza, love their pastas. The portions are huge (serve 2) and come with yummy rolls made from pizza dough!

Where to eat in Waltham or Newton

A little less expensive, but very good Italian is Biagio.

Any suggestions for an an informal biz dinner in Waltham ?

I second Tempo. There's something for everyone on their menu. Room can get loud, though, which may not be ideal for a business dinner.

What restaurants don't we talk about enough?

Tempo on Moody St. in Waltham. I think the food has improvided tremendously since it first opened. My husband and I ate there last night and were extremely pleased with our meals, drinks, and the service.

New Pub Coming to West Newton

Just drove by and it looks like they're still in the set up stage. Lights are on and there were people sitting at the bar, but they didn't look like patrons. Maybe staff getting trained?

Current consensus on best "everyday" sushi?

I second Shogun! Always fresh, always good, and they make you feel very welcome.

I also like Sato in both Waltham and Stoneham for "everyday" sushi - especially at lunch where you can order combo meals.

Pumpkin is in the air

I went looking for this ice cream at the TJ in West Newton last night and the employee re-filling the ice cream section told me they won't be getting it in this year and that goes for all stores, not just West Newton. Has anyone else heard this? Hoping perhaps he's mis-informed...

Sports Bars w/ good food in the Newton/Waltham vicinity.

Don't know whether they have direct tv, but Shoppers Cafe on Moody Street in Waltham is a great sports bar with very good, very reasonably priced food.

Tango Mango Waltham

There's been a sign in the former Hungry Coyote space for months now saying Tango Mango was coming soon. Anyone know whether that's true??? While there are better Mexican options in Waltham, I think it'd be a good addition to Moody Street for those looking for a quick taco/burrito fix.

Graduation Dinner near Waltham

Solea is actually in the process of building a function room. It'll be adjacent to their dining room overlooking Moody Street.

Ipswich Clambake

My company used them for the first time this year for our annual outing at Crane's Beach and everyone raved about the food. We've used Woodman's for the past few years and Ipswich's quality and variety was noticeably better and apparently cost less to boot.

Restaurant Week 2008

I order soup as a starter whenever I go to Lumiere and it's always been outstanding.

Non-Fancy Dinner for 15 in Cambridge or Boston?

Looking for a low-key restaurant or pub/bar with good food (and drinks!) that can accomodate 20 out-of-town work colleagues for a weeknight retirement dinner later this month. Private room not necessary, though certainly a bonus if possible. Will be coming from the Kendall Square area and have no problem taking the T or cabs, if need be.

Many thanks!!

Best pizza in or near Waltham

Agreed - Franco's and Franca's are the best I've found in Waltham so far. Gemilli, on upper Moody, also has very good pizza albeit a bit pricey.

Best options out on the "128 Belt"

I recommend Biagio on Moody Street in Waltham (next to the train tracks). Very good Italian in a trendy atmosphere. They have an outside patio on their second floor, too.

Metro North Restaurants

I had an extremely disappointing first experience there a couple of weeks ago while visiting NY. I went for take out on a Wednesday night around 8:30 jonesing for pulled pork and ribs. They were all out of everything on the combo menu except brisket and sausage. I couldn't believe it - over half the menu items were not available! I went with the brisket w/ sides of beans and mac -n- cheese. The brisket and beans were simply ok and the mac -n- cheese tasteless and gummy. My meal was close to $20 and for that much I think I should have gotten twice as much food as I did. At my usual BBQ haunts in Boston, where I live, I enjoy terrific food at half the price and twice the portion size and NEVER have they run out of staple menu items like pulled pork and ribs!

New Pie Bakery in Newton Centre

I think the OP must be referring to Country Desserts which is on Lexington Street in Newton, just around the corner from the River Street intersection. I've heard their muffins are great!

Jake's BBQ in Waltham

I assume you're referring to Jake's and to be honest, I don't remember too many specifics other than that I said to my DC when we left that I didn't care to go back there and he agreed the meal was disappointing. It was the food more than service. Considering there are other, and in my opinion better, BBQ choices in the vicinity (Bison and Blue Ribbon) I haven't felt the desire to hit Jake's again since.

Jake's BBQ in Waltham

Last time I was there a year+ ago, the meal was disappointing. Bison, however, I've always enjoyed.

Looking for Coffee Beans in Waltham

Russo's carries an assortment of coffee beans by the pound (located right in front of the pasta/cheese counter) as well as cans of Illy beans (in the produce area across from the apples, I believe).
