Where do you eat in Jackson Heights?

I agree with Polecat. Phayul is my favorite spot in Jackson Heights these days. Recommend the Chili Chicken and the cheese soup.

Songkran festival at Wat Buddha Thai Thavorn Vanaram in Elmhurst?

The sign on the temple said April 15.

de Mole.. in Astoria.

Ate there a few weeks ago and thought everything was pretty mediocre. I was disappointed because years ago, it really was good.

Suggestions Wanted For Elmhurst Chinatown Food Crawl

I second Sweet Yummy House. Their lunch specials are a bargain. Also try the specials listed in Chinese on the wall(they will translate for you).

Szechuan in Elmhurst?

Try the lunch specials. They're a great deal(especially the mapo tofu}.

Szechuan in Elmhurst?

I agree. Sweet Yummy House is a very good Sichuan restaurant.

Grand Restaurant in New World Mall

My wife and I had about 7 or 8 dim sum dishes there last week, and we thought they were different but quite good. In fact, we liked it better than Jade Asian which has been our go to place for years.

Rockaway Beach eats

I ate at Ode to the Elephants today, and it really was nothing special, plus the young guy there is an obnoxious jerk. I suggest eating at the fish taco place on 96 street and then having Italian ices at the place right next store(I recommend the white grape ices).

Timmy O's

Anyone know what's going on with Timmy O's? I've walked by twice in the last few weeks and it was closed. Is it only open in the summer months?

Southern Thai in Jackson Heights?

Ayada delivers to Jackson Heights as does Thailand Center Point.

Sripraphai overrated

Like many of you, I have been going to Sri for more than ten years. I did feel that there was a sharp decline in consistency after they opened the Long Island restaurant and I stopped going for awhile. My last four or five visits, however, have all been consistently good. I like TCP for its friendly atmosphere, but the food isn't nearly as good as Sri or Ayada or even Ploy Thai. I haven't tried Lotus of Siam but Kin Shop charged a lot more money for a lot less food and the food itself was fairly mediocre.

Don't know Ambala. Where is it?

At last great Indian Food in JH

Went there for dinner last night. It was quite good in general, some things better than others. But anyway, one of the manages there told me they were no longer doing the breakfast buffet.

ayada

Just had lunch at Ayada with my wife and the food seemed a bit off. Not bad, just not as good as usual. I mentioned it to the waitress who knows us and she said that they've been getting complaints saying the food is too salty or the food's too spicy. So what's happening is the food is being compromised to western tastes. I think it's important to let them know if the food isn't up to the usual standards of excellence and complexity. They need feedback from westerners who want their food authentic. It would be a shame to see this lovely restaurant compromise on its promise.

Spicey Mina...

More to the point, it is still closed, and since it's been about two months, I'm afraid it probably will not reopen.

Spicy Mina's

Went to Spicy Mina's for dinner last night around 7:00 and all the gates were down. Does anyone know what's up?

Haleem in Jackson Heights?

Mina makes the best haleem I've had. I've never been there when she didn't have it.

Near Broadway/Roosevelt Subway, Open for Lunch

There's Delhi Heights on 74 and 37th ave.(a few steps off of Roosevelt), I think you already know Mustang Thakali on 37 Ave and 74. They have lots of lunch specials including a delicious goat with pumpkin sauce. Also good is Rajbhog on 37th ave. and 73 street. All less than a 5 minute walk to the station.

Sweet Yummy House

Thanks, Jeff. By the way, the 10% discount is still in effect.

Sweet Yummy House

There's a new Szechuan restaurant in Elmhurst called Sweet Yummy House. My wife and I went there for dinner last night and it was actually very good. Dan dan noodles were excellent, chewy homemade noodles and the sauce had a real kick. The menu is pretty similar to Spicy and Tasty. There's a cold appetizer display in the back. We had the dried bean curd with celery. I actually liked it better than Spicy and Tasty's. It had less sauce which make it less salty. The flavor was quite cool and refreshing. We had a soup called Green pea with Minced Shrimp Soup that was delicious and lamb with Chili Pepper also quite good. It's nice having a Szechuan restaurant nearby for when I don't feel like hopping onto the 7 train.

Spicy Mina? Am i missing something

The last two meals I've had at Mina's, both within the last three months, were among the best I've ever had there.

Contextualizing Woodside's Chu Ying

Several places in Elmhurst deliver to Jackson Heights and parts of Woodside. We usually use Great Wealth. Let's face it, Elmhurst, one of New York's four Chinatowns, is pretty damn close by.

SRI closed for vacation and I need an alternative pls

I think Nusara is a close second to Sri

imperial palace disappointment

Thanks for your empathy, cimui. The dishes we ordered were on the lunch menu at half the price, but I didn't want to argue about the bill at that point. As a Jewish American who grew up in a working class Italian neighborhood, and as someone who has lived in many countries around the world, I too have experience my share of discrimination and yes, it does feel like sh*t. That's why I feel it's important to talk about it wherever it occurs.

imperial palace disappointment

If it's twelve noon and you have a lunch menu, you give the customer the lunch menu. No one else asked for it by the way. It was simply provided as they sat down.

imperial palace disappointment

Went to Imperial Palace for the first time today and while the food was good(though not as good as I had expected), I had a disappointment of another kind. My wife and I got there at about 12:15 and were given menus. The restaurant was fairly empty at that time. We ordered two dishes for a combined price of about thirty dollars. As more and more asian diners came in and sat nearby, we noticed that they all were given a different menu from the one we were given- it was a lunch menu, written in both Chinese and English, but where the prices were about one third of what they were on the dinner menu. When i tried to cancel my order and order off of the lunch menu, I was told it was too late, my food was already being prepared. We were the only non asians there and felt like we had been taken advantage of. Despite the food, it leaves a bad taste in one's mouth

Favorite restaurants in Elmhurst?

I have to go along with Mike on his picks. Also highly recommend Lin's Taiwanese restaurant a few blocks further south on Broadway.

Need a great Chinese Restaurant in Flushing [moved from Tristate board]

I think Spicy and Tasty is still the best.

Little Saigon (Elmhurst) Pho Uphill Alert

I never understood the enthusiasm for Thai Son. It's mediocre at best. The only advantage is its proximity to the subway and Jackson Heights. I much prefer Pho Bang and Pho Bac. I rarely go to Little Saigon because it is out of the way, but my son goes there regularly whenever he is home from college.

Thai food

About a minute in the microwave seemed to do it. Makes a great dinner as well as lunch. I've been taking them to work and heating up in the microwave. The servings are 6-8 dollars which doesn't seem bad to me. I've tried several different pork dishes and a chicken with bamboo shoots. All of them were quite good.
