Best GELATO? Recommendations please?!?

When you mention the strange vibe, do you mean you get it from being in the store or the way the staff is? I sometimes get that strange vibe when the owner Leo is there, especially when you pronounce pistachio and he repeats it with his pronunciation. So that basically makes me feel weird.

Best GELATO? Recommendations please?!?

Bulgarini Gelato of course.

real deal tacos!

Your best bet is to find a good taco truck. I don't know what area you're looking to go to, but if you see a taco truck, stop and try them out. Don't give up until you find one that's comparable.

For instance, I finally tried both taco trucks on Fair Oaks in Pasadena that are there at night. They were good, but I much preferred the one that is south on Fair Oaks parked inside an auto place. It was quite good, that a group of women were so excited to have their tacos. I also saw Kevin Sorbo, from the Hercules TV show, stop by for some tacos. At first he was hesitant as it was late at night, but he couldn't resist a good taco.

Good luck on your taco quest.

real deal tacos!

I can't vouch for El Jacal, but will try it soon.

As for Boca Del Rio, I wouldn't call their tacos the real deal tacos found in Mexico. Boca's tacos de carne asada aren't quite marinated as it should be. Their tacos are known for the heavy amount of shredded Monterey jack cheese they put on them with a slab of liquid green or red salsa and liquid guacamole. You can have cilantro and onion if you want too. That's it. It's good, but not the real deal.
There's also another Boca behind the West Covina mall, on the corner of California and West Covina Pkwy.

mexican but from NEW MEXICO

I'll definitely vouch for Little Joe's. And on Thursdays, they have their green chile burritos special, which is about 3 for $3 something. They are soooo good!!

I remember when the Baldwin Park Location closed, I was devastated because I missed their food. So I was quite pleased when Little Joe's opened up.

Mexican in Melbourne – Los Amates & Aztec Mexican

Finding good authentic Mexican food in Melbourne is extremely hard to find. I'm not surprised. Well, when I went to Melbourne last year, I heard about Los Amates. Being Mexican and having traveled all over Mexico trying different varieties of food, I was excited to finally try something that could finally be considered Mexican there.

Once there, I felt that I couldn't call it authentic Mexican. It seemed rather westernized. There was hardly any flavor too and nothing seemed spicy. I went twice, just to see if I was wrong the first timeand I wasn't.

So whenever I'm in Melbourne, the only Mexican I can get is the food I cook for my Aussie friends with some ingredients that I bring with me, buy there, and what they have grown.

Fredo's Phillys - Pasadena

I went again today, but this time I went with my brother. I had the Pepper and he had the bbq chicken, which was odd of him as I figured he'd try something else. But he really liked the bbq chicken and he's very hard to please. So it was all good.
As usual the owner was nice and remembered me from last time. He also mentioned he's been getting more people from chowhound and that he still needs to check this site out.

One thing I forgot to mention from the last time I went, was that he also told my friend that he plans on opening late on the weekends. He even said he might consider opening till 3am, which is really late. Maybe he wants to cash in on the club crowd?

Fredo's Phillys - Pasadena

I went yesterday with a friend. He had the Pepper and I had the Philly. It was really good and the right size too. The owner was nice as well and he asked me how we heard about the place and I mentioned Chowhound. He said that he's had others say the same and that he's never been on Chowhound, but plans on checking it out.
I definitely recommend it and I'll probably be back this coming week as my brother wants to try it.

Bulgarini Gelato has opened...

My friend and I went yesterday. I got mango and honeydew. It was so delicious as always. It was my friend's first time trying Buglarini's gelato and he absolutely loved it. He especially loved the coconut. After he finished, he could smell the coconut on his fingers and he mentioned how he feels like licking his fingers cause the coconut tasted and smelled so good. It was the best thing he's had.

Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza: Good NY style pie in Pasadena?

When someone said that there's a pizza war in South Pasadena, they weren't kidding. Read with caution regarding new chowhound users.

I have yet to go to Nonna's. I shall check it out next week and report back in a new thread, if one hasn't already been made by another established chowhounder.

Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza: Good NY style pie in Pasadena?

This is great news because I noticed the change of ownership in December and I could tell that the quality went down a bit. I went back a few times since the place was bought out and each time I noticed the difference. It's good pizza, but it just isn't the same as when the original Italian guy and staff made it because it was a lot more tastier.

I'll be trying out Nonna's real soon.

Looking for Mexican popsicles and ice cream

The one I know is La Mich in Duarte.
La Mich Paleteria
1026 Huntington Dr
Duarte, CA 91010

They make their own paletas and ice cream.

Here's the the thread concerning it too:

Best Nachos?

I like the Nachos at The Great Onion in Duarte, on Huntington Dr.
I'd like to know of more places that have great nachos in SGV too!

Someone on chowhound recommended nachos from Los Chiles Locos in Monrovia. Worst suggestion ever! Not recommended at all!

Beard Papa opening in Arcadia ...?

I went there a few days ago. They still don't have all the items on the menu available, but will soon. Anyway, I tried the puffs and they were nice, but it didn't thrill me to want to get some soon. And oh is it expensive!

La Mich Paleteria - Mexican Ice Creamery

I definitely recommend this place as well. It's quite tasty and reminds me of the ones from Mexico.

Best Place for Dessert in Pasadena on Saturday Night?

I walk into the Laemmle to grab me some Bulgarini gelato, even if I'm not going to see a film. It's so yum!
I try to avoid packed places, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

Dino's Chicken & Burgers (review + pics)

Wow Wow weee! This chicken is delicious! I just got back and I must say it's one of the best chickens I've tasted. It's tender and juicy with the spices really done well. Even the rice and beans were nice, with the rice having a lemony flavor. Glad this place is near me.

Old School Chinese in San Gabriel Valley?

There's Lotus Garden in Covina. They've been at that same location for years and they haven't changed much. Even walking into the place is like a time warp. Food is quite good, especially their chow mein.

Lotus Garden

Help !! Burger place in baldwin park / el monte area

I can suggest Star burger that is on the corner of Ramona Blvd. and Maine St in downtown Baldwin Park. It's a place I've been going for years. I also recommend their onion rings. Others have also started going to Maine Burger on the Corner of Maine and Clark St. It's just down (north) the street from Star Burger.
