Good Eats in Santa Clara?

Here are a few of our favorites in Santa Clara and surrounding area.

Indian: Kabab and Curry's go here for dinner and you can order individual pieces of tandoori. I think they have the best Indian food in Santa Clara & Sunnyvale. The lunch buffet serves only about 7 or so items. The service is slow for dinner.

The Athena Grill was already mentioned and it is a hands down winner!

99 Chicken: The salad bar is free when you order chicken. Ok the chicken is deep fried and so we only go here occasionally. The place is often packed,

El Camino Mongolian BBQ: When we want a quick and healthy dinner we eat here.

Lock Chun for Chinese food. Love their Mongolian chicken.
(Also try Chef Ko's in Campbell on Hamilton Ave...our number one favorite and a tad more expensive and worth it.)

We love Mexican food and we drive to Milpitas to Baja Cactus on Main Street. Love their homemade soft corn tortillas. The mole is the best in the Bay Area.

Really Good Yeasty Pancakes

Are referring the Uncle John's Pancake House in Santa Clara, CA?

If so I have good news the great pancakes can still be had at the Holder's Country Inn in Santa Clara County..they have five restaurants. They still use the same recipe...
www.holderscountryinn.com

from their websiite:
In 1957, Jack and Anne Holder sold their Dairy Queen business in Roseburg, Oregon and moved their family to the "Valley of Hearts Delight" and opened Uncle John's Pancake House in Santa Clara. Jack and Anne's pancakes and waffle recipes made Uncle John's one of the most popular coffee shops in the Bay Area.

In 1967, Jack and Anne's success continued when they opened the original "Holder's Country Inn" in the old Town & Country Village (now Santana Row) in San Jose, where it flourished for 32 years. The original Country Inn relocated to DeAnza Boulevard in 1999. The Holder's at El Paseo opened in 1981 and relocated to Saratoga Avenue in 1995.....[snip]

Frostbitten artichokes - do they taste better?

I am artichoke addict and the frostbit ones are tasty. The best artichokes are the ones that picked in the spring. The fall crop is are a little woody in texture. They are all good...but spring is the seaon for the tender ones.
I have a new Southern Italian recipe that is yummy.
Cut the artichoke is half lengthwise. Scrap out that furry stuff above the heart (the part we never eat). Trim off the thorns with scissors. Rinse it well under cold water. Place the chokes leaf side down in one inch of water (I use a fry pan with a lid). Drizzle olive oil over the chokes. Place a pat of butter in each choke. Chop one half of a white onion and sprinkle it over the chokes. Sprinlke some chopped parsley. Sprinkle some cinnamon over the chokes. Cover the pan Bring the water to a boil...steam on med. high for 15 minutes..then simmer until soft (I like them al dente). These are addicting.
I served them for Christmas dinner..and they were a big hit.

Baja Cactus – Mexican Mole on Main St. in Milpitas

Hi Katya,

Baja Cactus is our favorite Mexican restaraunt in Northern CA. The homemade tortillas are so delicous, no one makes them better. Try the soft taco with steak and quacamole it is my favorite along with the Chile Relleno. My son loves the Nachos with chicken.

Nothing here comes from out of a box.

My husband is a big mole fan and he raves about their mole.

Their flan is perfect and you will be tempted to eat two.

We typically eat here two or three times a month (for the past several years)...and the service is quite good.

Best regards,

Noelle
