Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?
Have you tried any of the places on Virgil? I remember liking el charrito for their homemade tortillas, but this was a few years ago...
Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?
Someone reported them to the city maybe 2 years ago, right around the time they started taking credit cards. No mas byob.

Any good burritos on the Westside?
tacomiendo has 2 westside locations (west LA and mar vista), which are as good as you'll find on the westside and probably consistent with the northern cal burrito ideal. i know some will argue, but tito's in culver city makes a great, presumably lard-intensive bean and cheese burrito as well.

Renu Nakorn still good?
I noticed Renu Nakorn used to get a lot of love on this board but barely gets any mention these days. Has it gone downhill, or maybe just been eclipsed by Jitlada hysteria?

A few Mid-City Tacos
i went to the above-mentioned el compita to try their much-hyped al pastor, which was quite good, but was absolutely blown away by their carne asada which seldom gets mentioned. of course, you have to go at night when the outfoor bbq is set up. this in my mind rivals downtown's mexicali for best asada i've had.

Breakfast Sandwich in Silver Lake/Los Feliz ?
believe me, i've tried starbucks' microwaved breakfast offerings. as sketchy as your average NYC deli might be, at least their sandwiches were made to order 99% of the time.
i am generally a big fan of tropical's sandwiches, has anyone tried ordering a breakfast sandwich on their sandwich roll rather than a croissant?
Breakfast Sandwich in Silver Lake/Los Feliz ?
breakfast sandwich on brioche at square one dining is the best i've had in the area. see no reason why you couldn't order one to go and skip the weekend crowd, but parking can be tricky around there,
for some reason, the ubiquitous $3 bacon, egg and cheese available in every deli in NYC is damn near impossible to find in this city.
Best Handmade Tortillas in LA/OC?
Second this. I did not realize it was possible for a flour tortilla to be this good.
best quesadilla near Ktown/Echo Park/Los Feliz...
The Mexicali stand on Beaudry and 1st, on the outskirts of downtown, has an amazing garlic-infused quesadilla they call a vampiro, available with asada, chorizo or chicken. great salsas to go with it too.
New Taco Truck at corner of La Brea and Venice
Have not seen this mentioned here, but the pastor on a spit that made this truck so special is no mas. The trompo was confiscated by the city the day after the Weekly ran its feature on the truck. Difficult to write this off as coincidence, and truly a terrible shame. I went back this week and the pastor was completely different; not bad but nowhere close to what was.

Looking for a place like Momofuku Saam Bar in Los Angeles
hungry cat maybe? i believe they do a cheese plate. i've always thought it to be one of the more "nyc" feeling restaurants in town.

Soups in the SGV - recommendations, favorites, etc.
Kam Hong Garden's beef stewed noodle, either hand-pulled or knife-cut. i can not decide which i prefer, but i keep going back to figure it out.
Best Chile Colorado Burrito?
tacos por favor in santa monica. the pork is very lean, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your taste. but this is my go to item when i am in the neighborhood.
in somewhat related news, i was watching some show that was visiting el tepeyac, and they revealed that the pork in their "chile verde" (which is inexplicably red) is in fact deep-fried before added to the mix. pondering the caloric/fat content of a hollenbeck is mind numbing. but it might be something to try.

MOST OUTSTANDING BURRITOS IN LOS ANGELES AREA
agree about tito's burritos. regardless of how you feel about the tacos (i happen to love them, but am tired of trying to justify this), there is something about their flour tortillas that i find magical. i suspect it is lard, but i probably don't want to know.
at some point over the last 20 years, i discovered the "bean, cheese rice" combination which i would never even consider ordering anywhere else. it might be my favorite burrito in the city. especially if you can manage to work some of the taco into it.

El Tarasco on Sunset
somewhat inexplicably, not much.
there are a few trucks in echo park, a couple of places on virgil along the border of hollywood, but silver lake is really lacking in good, authentic mexican food. (i don't care for siete mares, mariella's has been ok in the past). best just to drive to highland park where your choices are endless.
Spago reservations-- too easy?
church & state has turned into a pretty tough table to get...
Sunday Burger Night at Grace
Has anybody been? Are burgers the only thing available? The website mentions milkshakes, but what about sides, etc...?
Guelaguetza Question
Was just looking at their website which lists both locations in k-town and one in lynwood, but no mention of the west LA branch. did it close or is it under different ownership?
Mexican Food without Lard
i can't say for certain, but i would be surprised if Loteria used lard in any of their food. it strikes me as a particularly vegetarian friendly mexican menu.
Need help in Hollywood Park area
is that branch of porky's bbq still there? i thought they had closed a while ago.
Fisherman's Seafood Outlet - Downtown
if you're looking for ceviche, best to make the trip down to mo chica by USC. theirs is, indeed, out of this world. as is everything else i've tried on the menu.
Special Occasion Dinner (tonight) for Los Feliz/Silverlake/Downtown?
is reservoir off of everybody's radar already? i live right up the street, but have not been in any hurry to check it out. did the LA times review do them in?
