A pseudo hipster moving to Jackson Heights
Hey, if what the guy wants is one great cafe to write in, there's no need to tell him to move to Astoria. Come visit the apartment and check out Espresso 77 -- it's an inviting, friendly, sunlit, locally-owned cafe with tasty sandwiches, decent cookies, and (I think) a wifi connection.

Tibetan/Nepali roundup in Jackson Heights?
Went to Lali Guras today and got a veggie thali to go -- a huge platter, with rice, some greens, something pickled, a curry (I'm not even sure what was in there, potatoes and maybe eggplant? gourd?), dal. It was delicious and huge.

Fabulous Sarson ka Saag w/ Makki ki Roti @ Raja Sweets, Jackson Heights
Raja is great. The bread is always cooked to order, and they often have very good, very homestyle steam tray offerings -- when they have cabbage, get it.
outdoor lunch near Varick and Hudson
It's 70 degrees out, and I'm hoping to eat lunch outside. Any suggestions for a cafe in the area with outdoor seating? Not too expensive, any type of food. Thanks!
Malaysian delivery in Jackson Heights?
So we're looking to change up our normal delivery routine and were thinking that we'd try to get some Malaysian food. Does anyone know of a place that delivers in the 70s? And any recs on dishes? Thanks so much!
Soup - Houston and Varick?
It's freezing in my office and rainy outside. I want soup for lunch! Any recs for something tasty and not too expensive nearby?
Dessert spot and/or bakery in Woodside, near Sripraphai
You could walk to Jackson Heights in 15 minutes. Lety's, on 37th Avenue around 78th street or so has nice pastries and cakes. I like their lemon biscuits and almond cookies. There's also Espresso 77 on 77th Street just past 37th Avenue for tasty brownies, cookies, etc. Cannelle (which has the most amazing chocolate chip and pecan cookie, I am completely obsessed with this cookie) is probably a 30 minute walk away. But seriously, that cookie is amazing.
sripraphai for saturday lunch
We do this all the time with our twins/double stroller and they are really sweet about it. Definitely do go on the early side. And get the panang curry. Yum!
Aquavit for Restaurant Week?
We are going for lunch tomorrow. Any experiences or recommendations? Many thanks!
Nanking - JH's
Yeah, not so sure about the clay oven thing. Before they pulled the steel grates down this weekend, there were a couple of bright yellow Health Department notices on the door -- I think it was closed down by the Health Dep't.
Best Hotdog near O'Hare - NOT Gene & Jude's
So we are looking for a great Chicago-style dog near O'Hare. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
COLD SESAME NOODLES, ASAP, Queens NOT FLUSHING!!!
I don't remember cucumbers, but I do recall some greens -- bok choy, maybe? Not too much. I liked em a lot.
COLD SESAME NOODLES, ASAP, Queens NOT FLUSHING!!!
In Elmhurst, Lao Bei Fang Dumpling House on Whitney, just north of Broadway, has terrific hand-pulled noodles and does a great cold sesame noodle.

Spicy and Tasty (or other Flushing) w/kids?
Thanks for all these great ideas! I've been meaning to get to De Mole, and the Corfu lunch special sounds like a good deal.
We did end up going to Spicy and Tasty, and they were pretty accommodating. Our guys are still small enough to sit happily in the stroller the whole time, and most of the wait staff was pretty sweet (though a couple did seem grumpy). The mild spicy chicken was tasty, as were the green beans, though the appetizer with the lunch special wasn't much of anything -- some chopped up scallions with not much flavor. The sesame noodles were also great, though.
And I second that Sri is great for kids -- they've been nothing but lovely to us and our ginormous stroller.
Spicy and Tasty (or other Flushing) w/kids?
Thanks, Janie! That's very helpful! If we do get takeout, it seems like it should be a pretty easy walk down 39th to Flushing Meadows park. Is that right?
Spicy and Tasty (or other Flushing) w/kids?
So we're hoping to head out to Flushing tomorrow for an early lunch, but we have (quiet!) twin babies and a pretty large stroller. Will we fit? Or is the place pretty cramped? If so, is there a good place for us to go, or are we stuck with take out? Thanks!
Esquites in Queens?
Do you know what time that vendor sets up shop? Elotes are sounding great!
chicken soup in Jackson Heights
Being sick in August is no fun. Any recs for great chicken soup in the area? I was thinking about the pho gai at Thai Son, but any thoughts about the chicken soup at one of the Mexican, Columbian, or Indian-Chinese places around? Or Thai, for that matter. Many thanks!
Lunch specials in Jackson Heights?
I will be around the neighborhood this summer and am looking for good lunch specials to take advantage of. So far I've tried Upi Jaya (which, despite the purported lunch special on the menu, doesn't seem to actually have one), Arunee, Afghan Kebab House (still a bit pricey), Rice Avenue (liked the pineapple fried rice a lot), and am addicted to Coatzingo's cemitas. What else should I be trying?
Korean in Jackson Heights
Thanks for the suggestion -- we tried it, and it was pretty good. About 10 different banchan. Standouts included really tasty tofu, some unidentifiable but delicious greens n egg? thing, whole fried fish. The dolsot bi bim bop was tasty. Large platters of appetizing meats to grill walked by while we sat. I've had better Korean food, but for just a couple of blocks away, this was really quite good.
Korean in Jackson Heights
So normally I'd get on the 7 train to get Korean food, but for a bunch of reasons, I'm hoping to stay in JH tonight, and I've had a request for Korean food. Any likely places? How is the Korean place next to Thai Son? Many thanks!
Urgent! Need a quiet dinner near 23rd and 6th!
Hi! Just found out that we need to find a place to take the in-laws to supper tonight. Anyone have a reasonably priced suggestion for someplaec that won't be too loud? Many thanks!
New Indian Chinese in Jackson Heights?
So while walking down 72nd on my way to Chilli Chicken, I noticed a new(?) Indian Chinese place called "Talk of the Town." I had walked by during the day and it was always shuttered, but it looked somewhat bustling. Has anyone tried it?
It was my first time at Chilli Chicken, and while I prefer some of Tangra's versions a bit better, it was pretty good. When we came it at about 8, the place was empty, but it filled up quickly, and the service was actually okay for a JH restaurant. Our favorite dishes were the chili paneer and an eggplant dish, the chili chicken was also pretty good, but a touch oily for my taste. I'm used to the lollipop chicken at Tangra (which basically consists of some chicken taken off the bone, mixed with some spicy potato mixture, backed back around a little drumstick, fried and served with sauce -- yum!). This one was okay, just chicken, coated in a somewhat sticky sauce. Anything else really good at Chilli Chicken?

anyone have any update on the independently-owned coffee shop?

What's good at Chili Chicken?
Actually had the lunch special at Nanking, and while the food (I had chole, and a paneer dish) wasn't outstanding, it was okay. There was a choice of two curries, choice of bread, choice of rice. I'd be curious to see if other items are good. The place looks much less fast food-y inside.

Hi,
I noticed that this place had a good looking (and inexpensive!) lunch special the other day. Has anyone tried the food?
Thanks!

I am not a fan myself, but it looks like a Starbucks is opening at 78th St. & 37th Avenue:

speaking of Bubby's and Pie...do you have a fave?
We had our wedding there last summer -- it was great. Recs on the food include the mac and cheese, brisket, mini pulled pork sandwiches, cherry pie.
