Babbo Ristorante e Enoteca -- June 2009 report

I hva to agrre with you about these pretentious restaurant owners and/ or staff who will continue to not understand that the reason they are in business is to provide a service and not to act like serving food on any level is anything but a skilled craft and not painting the Sistine Chapel. I have worked in and owned restaurants for 30 years.

Da Andrea or Piccolo Angolo?

Piccolo, hands down

Near Penn Station.... anything?

Tir Na Nog at 8th Ave between 33rd and 34th. Great food and great service. From Burgers to Pamesan Crusted Branzino it is always first rate

Inexpensive restaurants near 26th and 6th

Not to be petty but Le Zie is Veneziana cuisine not Toscana

Argentinean Restaurant for a party?

Azul on the LES is a pretty fun Argentine place. It is on Stanton and Norfolk or Suffolk. At least they have Sweetbreads and Morcilla unlike Novocento where I went for Lunch yesterday and they told me they no longer carry those authentic Argentine items. Hacienda de Argentina is a little stuffy for a party, for a dinner date it would be better. I haven't been to Industria yet but I did talk to a friend who liked it.

Best Fresh Italian Sausage?

I like all of the ones everyone mentioned but I found the tastiest Italian Sausage at the Florence Meat Market. in the Village.

Where to buy lotus root and real wasabi (not horseradish powder)

They have fresh wasabi at the japanese market on Broome St off the corner from West Broadway across from Kens Broome St Bar. Think it is called Sunrise Market.

Primehouse - anyone been?

I went with my son for lunch a couple of weeks ago and was not impressed with the food. I had the Tuna Burger and asked for it rare. The server said that the chef recommends it be cooked to medium. It came out well done and was tough. It tasted like a frozen tuna steak. My son had the burger medium rare and it came out medium well. They did pour a great Grey Goose on the rocks however. I will have to go back some night and have the steaks and give them a chance to redeem themselves but if you can't cook a burger on a slow lunch day I don't see a lot of hope on a busy evening rush.

Rhong Tiam - Great Thai in the Village

I am hearing all good reports on the food so I went with my wife last night at 6pm and with at least 10 empty tables I was told it was going to be a 30 minute wait to be seated w/o a reservation. We walked over to Raouls and had a great dinner. Walking back we passed Rhong Tiam and some of the same tables that were empty at 6pm were still empty at 8pm. What is there problem, reading to many of their clippings?

Eating out in Rome

I agree with you about Amatriciana, the food is delicious and the service is as if you were a regular customer when in fact it was our first visit. We went for lunch after a Vatican visit and returned the next night for dinner. Our waiter was Guiseppe and he treated us like gold. Definitely go there if you want solid Roman food not trendy food.

i waited 1 hour for food at shake shack yesterday...

The best time to go is at 11 am when they open,

where to buy fresh shiso leaves - preferably downtown

Shiso is sold at the japanese market on the north side of Broome St, 100 feet east of West Broadway

Best Sushi: Gram Park/Murray Hill?

I agree that Mishima is always very good and very fresh

Where can I get a huge italian sub/hero sandwich for superbowl?

Definitely go to Parisi Bakery on Mott St between Spring and Kenmare. I buy the 3 foot heros for Christmas Parties for all the construction workers on the site. The 3 footer can feed 15 normal people or 10 construction workers. The chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers or the Italian Hero are my favorite.
