Westside Hounds in Silver Lake tonight...where to eat? Saito's is very good, although it's a bit expensive. (Spent ~$100/2 ppl for omakase.) I typically head down to Little Tokyo for my sushi fix because the prices are slightly cheaper, although recently the restaurants have been getting more and more packed. The last few times I've had to wait 1 hour+. The only expensive place in Little Tokyo is Sushi Gen, which has top notch quality fish and is considered the "favorite" among a few chowhounders. |

I saw BBQ King's burger featured on the Food Network (I think). They grill them in the smoke barrels underneath the ribs, etc., so that the burgers soak up all the rib juices that drip down onto them. Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen, but if you do try it, and live to tell the tale, let us know how it is. |

Westside Hounds in Silver Lake tonight...where to eat? I really like Alegria on Sunset for Mexican/Central American cuisine. Plus, it's BYOB! Oh, and cash only. |

I was at Encounter (the space-aged restaurant in the middle of LAX) recently and, wow, the place looks not-at-all space-aged and very much 60s-70s meet Jetsons and Flintstones. In other words, the place looks like it was decorated by Hanna-Barbara. I would only go there if you wanted a beer before boarding and, perhaps, a mediocre light snack. Oh, and a view of planes taking off and landing. I would not go there expecting anything specatuclar. But, the plus is that it's located in the airport, giving you plenty of time to make your flight. |

Fresh scallops still in the shell? Anyone know where I can get fresh scallops still in the shell? No luck at fancier supermarkets such as Whole Foods. I even tried looking at the asian supermarkets, like Ranch 99. I was thinking about checking out Santa Monica Seafood Co., which I've never been to. Do you have a better suggestion? Thanks in advance! |

Steak & Good Wine list in L.A.? I've heard really good things about the meat at Cut. It may be booked though. |

Small hamburger buns for sliders? Thanks for the recommendations. My friend (and caterer) used Hawaiian Rolls in the past and didn't think that they went so well with the flavors in her sliders. Dinner rolls are a good idea, though! Thanks! |
