early bird offers

Thanks, collardman, (love the screen name.) I don't know why my explanation of why I;m looking for early dining options, but I am a recent transplant patient and I just don't have the strength or stamina to walk through the FQ like I used to do when I did. So I;m looking for places that can be easily reached by taxi before the streets get too crowded.
Thanks, again.

early bird offers

perhaps I should explain why I am looking for early dining choices. I am a recent transplant patient and as such I don't have much stamina to walk through the Quarter. I'm going to require a cab to take my wife and I to a decent place to eat. So, that's why my previous post. Not that I'm a cheapskate looking to dine.

Cayman Birthday dinner

If you're going to be there on a Sunday, the brunch at the Westin Causarina is a good choice for my family (up to 12 people at one time,) They offer local cuisine plus some international food on their buffet. It also is on the water.

Orange Beach local restaurants

Thanks Littleman, that's a great list. Do you know of any upscale markets so we can cook some good stuff in the condo?

Orange Beach local restaurants

No biggie, Littleman.
We'd be looking for a fine dining and a good seafood restaurant.
Been to Louisiana Lagniappe and I think Geno's if I remember correctly. Might go back to Geno's but not LalLap.. Stumbled on Tip Top in Bon Secour our last trip. I guess I would be more interested in places like that.

Thanks.

Sunday Brunch Grand Cayman

My extended family (18 of us) will be going to Grand Cayman in early June. Having been several times before, we have always done Sunday brunch at the Westin Casaurina including some children. However, going to their website to make reservations, I noticed that they are now restricting children under ten years of age in the Casa Havana which is the restaurant that does the brunch, so I emailed them to inquire if the age restriction applies to Sunday also.

So the question is, if the Westin won't let us in with children, what other recommendations can anyone give me for Sunday?

Thanks for any help.

Reading about the trevails of cast iron

I have several very old pieces of cast iron. Each one has an almost mirror like finish on the surface and I know that they are well seasoned and sometimes food still sticks. I've looked at new CI in stores and I've noticed that all of them have a very rough, sandlike surface. I assume that this surface is imparted to the metal through sand casting, the process of molding compressed blocks of sand and pouring molten iron into the cavity.

Seems to me that this surface is not conducive to any non-stick cooking no matter how well seasoned the utensil is.

Anyone else have any ideas on this.
