Le Diner
Am I missing something because I really don't get the point of it. Is it to be part of someting just so you can be part of it?
Garden Cafe (Poway) highly recommended
You could always risk your life and run across Scripps Poway Parkway and get a grilled cheese from In-n-Out
You are leaving San Diego forever; where would you eat?
Watching the sunset at Swami's while sipping a nice California sparkling wine, J perhaps, of course using the appropriate discreet container
Gluten-free vegan dining
Have you tried the Lotus Cafe? I've been to the Encinitas one several times and for GF and vegan choices they do a decent job. I know they opened up a 2nd location in Hillcrest but haven't been there.
Cute San Diego Japanese Restaurant for Hello Kitty theme Baby Shower?
Did you think about the Japanese garden in Balboa Park. I went to a light luncheon there a couple of weeks ago. It was a very pretty space. This was an event for the members and I dont know if they rent out that space to the public, but if they do it was very nice
View lunch in La Jolla?
Eddie V's will be opening for lunch sometime after mother's day from inside information. They are still working on the menu
Temecula wineries: good wine, nice setting, and family-friendly? Is this possible?
Its just that the wineries along California Road really get crazy with tons of people especially on the weekends. They seem much more crowded to me than the wineries up in Napa or Sonoma or up along the Central Coast. The wineries along De Portola road are a little less hectic. While not the best wine, you could enjoy Keyways or Leonese. The best wine in my opinion, is Hart, but its kinda small and may not be the best for kids. Stay away from Callaway and Wilson those tasting rooms are just insane.
San Diego - Great weather, but where is the outside dining?
There are a few on the beach dining options up on the north coast. I will make the suggestion to keep it simple and don't set your expectations too high and you can have an enjoyable time on the beach. Lunch seems to be a better bet than dinner at most of these places. Yes and you can flame away.
Posideon in Del Mar only when they pull that heavy plastic tarp away.
Sbicca while not on the beach, the patio has nice ocean views and 15th street isn't, as busy as 101
Beach house in Cardiff, the best ocean view of the bunch, but the food, nice staff though.
Pacific Coast Grill hasn't opened up yet but the view will be good, and the food at their old location was decent.
Vigilucchi's off of Tamarck. Nice view but looking across 101. the food is about the same as the other restaurants in the chain.
San Diego - Great weather, but where is the outside dining?
Amaya at the Grand Del Mar
Argyle at Aviara. Yeah there is a golf course, but nice lagoon views.
AR Valentine has a small patio. golf and ocean views.
Casa Bandini. nice garden patio. a little tight seating though.
Cosmopolitan reworked the old Bandini space and has a nice patio with foliage that is now starting to grow in.
Quiet dining in North County
is Savory still open? I thought Wade Hageman was going to take over that space and remodel it and open an American comfort food style place. I just havent driven into that parking lot to see if any work is going on.
Best Steak in SD
Unless the employees were in the dark, then no. They may have very well been in discussions and made verbal agreements, however there was nothing offical until after that space opened.
Best Steak in SD
Hey I'll be a shill for Eddie V's in La Jolla. My steak was flavorful and perfectly cooked. Good service and great view during dusk. The only problem is, that I do worry now that they have been bought out by Darden, will their quality suffer.
Quiet dining in North County
RSF Inn just got bought by John Moores. Not sure if they are going to be doing any renovations soon.
UTC adding another restaurant - Seasons 52
Being owned by Darden isn't a complete death knell. Eddie V's got bought out by them and they still have a lot of control over their food. I suppose it matters if they were developed by Darden or they bought them out.
Dining room with a fireplace?
The only place that comes off the top of my head is Eddie V's in La Jolla. They still have the same fireplace from really pre chart house days. It is now in the bar but it is kinda seperated by an elevation change from the bar and you could eat dinner there. However its not real dark and the menu is steakhouse. The bar at AR Valentine has probably the nicest fireplace, but the way the tables are set up not sure you can eat dinnere there
Dinner Rec w/Good Vegetarian Option
Went last Saturday evening, really enjoyed it, but the place got super noisy as it got filled up. There was a special south park event so that may have contributed to these noise level. My SIL is a vegetarian and she left satisfied.
Great news re: old Police station
I wonder if the CF wil kill off some of those c***tastic places already in seaport village. On the bright side, I might now be able to get into the oyster bar at the fish market in the summertime
Balboa Park: Good, Cheap, Fast?
Alberts in the zoo is fairly decent. The only problem is that you have to pay to get into the zoo or be a member. I find sitting out on their patio to be a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the zoo. It is also a lot less frentic than the Prado.
Natural wine in San Diego?
I am not sure what you are looking for in "farm" wines. Do you want biodynamic wines? Wines from San Diego producers? My go to wine shop is San Diego Wine Shop on Miramar Rd. Also the 3rd corner has a decent selection and the prices are reasonable.
Let's Play Burger Bingo
Red Tracton's bar menu also has a burger. Chiefs up in Solana Beach is supposed to be pretty good. Never been, but I have had two groups of people ask me for directions to Chiefs, which may or may not be good.
Need recommendations for family-friendly but good steakhouse for special birthday
You might want to give Eddie V's in La Jolla a call. They have several spaces that can closed off. When I ate there, there was a couple of large groups celebrating birthdays and one group had several children. They have spinach but it was sauteed with parm cheese but wasn't creamed.
Oceanside for lunch on a Saturday
Cohn restaurants are touristy but no more so than other places in Oceanside and waaay less than others, Crab Shack anyone? You also get a lot of tourists in Carlsbad especially in the downtown core. As far as it being overpriced, I thought it was fair pricing. I enjoyed my meals at 333 lots more than my last one at the Prado.
Need Del Mar Saturday lunch recomendations
Remember its Del Mar so it is going to be pretty Americanized. Taste of Thai is on Via de and San Andreas which is probably you best bet in the immediate area.
Need Del Mar Saturday lunch recomendations
On Saturday, the wait at Claires can be a real pain. I know Sbicca gets no love on this board, but the front patio on a nice day, things could be a lot worse. I am not sure if Red Tractons is finished with their remodel. I was in a couple of weeks ago, and it was kinda dusty in there.
Live seafood in the South Bay
Ummm, no comparison in what way? I go by the MM one all the time and I have been very nervous about buying seafood after a bad experience with crab from a local seafood market over New Years.
Looking for Kronan Swedish Punsch
Have tried to contact somebody from the House of Sweden in Balboa Park or the Vasa Society? They might have a beer aficionado around that might know where you can get it.
