RYE NY - Meeting the parents + Wedding rehearsal dinner
Thanks all for the feedback!! Love the look of Arrosto so we might do the parents-meeting-the-parents there. Prior to that however is lunch where I meet the parents for the first time. They aren't keen on French food (they're from AZ) - is Aquario good for lunch? The website makes the restaurant look a little dark and drab inside.
Do you have any thoughts on Cafe Livorno or Aurora Restaurant?

RYE NY - Meeting the parents + Wedding rehearsal dinner
Hi all,
We'll be getting married in Rye, NY in about a month, where I will be meeting his parents for the first time. Looking for recommendations for:
1) Weekday Lunch - Meet the parents (4 persons)
Ideally someplace semi-casual, not too noisy, and generally comfortable and relaxed
2) Friday Dinner - rehearsal dinner (40 persons)
Ideally someplace with not-too-pricey, decent food in a central part of town. (Tried Rye Bar & Grill but they seem to be full for large parties that evening already!)
I'm coming from out of town, so am quite unfamiliar with the place. Staying at Doral Arrowwood. Suggestions would be much appreciated!
Scarpetta or Market Table?
Just went to Aldea last night. It's real food, affordable, i wouldn't say romantic exactly but still somewhat conducive for good conversation. Food was good, but didn't blow me away. The favorite on the menu was the duck and chorizo dish which came abit like a paella. I had the scallops which came with a risotto - scallops were excellent, risotto was not. I liked the mackarel as an appetizer.

Thanks RGR, chemWork and smokeandpancake - great suggestions. Think I will go check out Scarpetta and Gothm on my own, and decide between the two. Am also still keeping Marea on the table (I adore the pastas there), but obvously open as well. Thanks!

Introducing my parents to my boyfriend for the first time in October, thus looking for a place that is conducive for conversation, but not TOO quiet in case it gets a wee bit awkward. Preferred cuisine would be Italian (or pizza) or steak. Cost is of no concern. I'm thinking of Marea, but last time I was there it got a tad noisy. Does anyone have other suggestions please? Need some help please. Will be in Barcelona for a wedding and only have Sunday night free to have dinner in town. Have looked at some recommended restaurants that appeal most to me (Cinc Sentits, Inopia, Abac) but all are closed on Sunday night. Are there any decent places open for a sunday dinner? Any recommendations will be much appreciated - I don't want to waste my final night in BCN on sub-par food!

Bear Naked / Other Granola in London
Hello! Moved over from New York six weeks ago and am still finding/eating my way around town. One thing I really miss about NY is my favorite granola Bear Naked (especially Heavenly Chocolate). Have been to Selfridges, Whole Foods and Waitrose in search of Bear Naked, or other similarly yummy chocolate granola to no avail. Does anyone know if Bear Naked granola can be found in London? Or other good crunchy granola (e.g. Kashi)?

Birthday Dinner - 10 people, Saturday night
I'm celebrating my 27th birthday in mid-November and want a warm, energetic restaurant to have dinner. We'll be a group of 10-12 people, all fun-loving girls in late 20's-early 30's). I'm looking for good food (I'm a foodie, and so are many of my friends), not necessarily over-the-top but just solid food with good quality ingredients. max $60-80 per person. Am thinking of Knife + Fork, Fresh or Inoteca. Any thoughts or other recommendations would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. :)
Grom Gelato? As good as advertised?
It's very pricey, the line's usually long, but IMHO it's the best gelato I've tasted in NY. The flavors are intense and very fresh (I tried cappuccino, hazelnut (best), yogurt, nougat) - satusfying experience
Japanese Pastries
Actually you're absolutely right - my visit to Kyotofu on Friday evening was what sparked off this Japanese pastry craving. :) We shared a variety of desserts - the signature tofu, black sesame tofu, chocolate cake (ooooo yummy) and tofu cheesecake which was so light and healthy. Love the place. Thanks!
Japanese Pastries
I've been craving good Japanese pastries, preferrably a confectionary that allows me to bring these goodies home for dessert, or even to present as a gift in a nicely-wrapped box. Does anyone know of any good Japanese pastry shops in Manhattan? A friend mentioned one place near Rockefeller Center but I've had trouble finding its name and exact location. Please help if you can. Thanks so much!
Best Malaysian food in NYC?
Chinatown: Sanur on Doyer St is very authentic. If you want somewhere cleaner with better decor, Nyonya on Grand St is a perennial favorite. Singapore Cafe, Jaya and Taste Good aren't bad either.
Best tasting menu
NOBU. and Per Se (if you can get a reservation). For dinner with tasting size portions, Degustation is quite good, and affordable too.
Asian soup
The Bak Kut Teh and Laksa is also good at Nyonya on Grand St in Chinatown. Most places serve Laksa assam-style, i.e. the sour-ish type from Penang, Malaysia. But Sanur on Doyer st. in Chinatown also serves in Singaporean style, so it's got more coconut milk, is less sour and is overall yummier and more palatable IMHO. And I agree with welle - the bak kut teh soup sachets in Chinatown are very easy to use and well worth the effort. The pork rib after it has been boiled for hours is quite yummy when eaten with rice and some sweet dark soy sauce and sliced red chilli. Enjoy!
Best place for a group birthday dinner?
From my experience, other places that accomodate large groups well include Lima's Taste (peruvian) in the west village, Pangea in the east village and Paradou in the meatpacking (very pretty garden, though space can get tight if you have a super large group).
