Hello, Boerum Hill!
Black Mountain, corner of Hoyt and Union. I was there about a week ago, happened to be a Tuesday so had fondue (only on Tuesdays, why?). I really like the place. Cozy environment, friendly staff, good selection of food (all $10). The wine list is good, and they change wine available by the glass and tap beer often. Will quickly become one of my new favorite places, but Boca Lupo is still at the top of the list.
Seeking Small Summer Wedding Space
Check out the options at Prospect Park. Went to a wedding there this year and I think the prices were pretty reasonable. Limited to the park's pre-approved caterers.
Jessie's Brooklyn Kitchen?
More like a cafe. Prepared foods you can eat there or take away. Had a spicy chicken lettuce thing that was pretty good.
What to eat at Trout and Pacifico?
Trout is not a food destination by any means. Think of a slightly better version of the Gowanus Yacht Club. That being said, when they have them the steamers are very good. Otherwise it's burgers, chicken sandwhich, or wings.
buon gusto (sp), brooklyn
yuck is what I say to this place. not good at all. don't know how it manages to stay open. pretty greasy each time I've been.
Best Middle Eastern in Atlantic Avenue Area/BH
Fatoush is still there and still good.
B-Day Bar near 5th & Union Park Slope
Bar Ries could fit the bill. It's on 5th btw 4th and 5th, I think.
Roly Poly Chip Shop
I think it was something about the indian curry side of the business they had (which I didn't even know about). Decision to stick with just chip shop stuff somehow also translated to cutting down the size of the place as well.
Santa Fe - small pre-wedding gathering
Need a place to throw a small (8-10) pre-wedding gathering for the bride and her friends. This is not a bridal shower or a bachelorette party. Would like something on the 'special' side, like a view, or nice patio, or something.
We would do some small appetizers and drinks. Any suggestions?
BTW - born and raised in Santa Fe but been on the East Coast for the past 15 years and am a little out of touch!
Help -- Mint Juleps require crushed ice!
That's to bad. They must be overwhelmed with Derby orders!
New Thai on Court St.
do a search for 'Cafe Chili' I think there have been a few comments.
Help -- Mint Juleps require crushed ice!
A friend throws an annual derby party and is always on the hunt for crushed ice. Used to be a place in the Bronx that had it, but was a pain to get to. This year he found a company that sells crushed ice and has same day delivery!!! The delivery is key because the party is usually about 200 people, and EVERYONE gets a mint julep. Here's the info:

Brawta open again
Just walked by this evening and it looks like business as usual. Guess they cleared up their IRS issues.
Waiting, waiting, waiting
New Thai place on Court has a sign "Thai Chili". Serving Thai and continental (what's that mean?)
No word on Po.
Cafe Kai closed by DOH
Jessie's Kitchen, nothing.
Brawta closed by the FEDS!!!
Heard Brooklyn Inn will revert back to a French Bistro (from ions ago).

my tamale emergency
I posted about ordering from New Mexico, but wouldn't help in the sudden death emergency for 6 dozen tamales in less than 24 hours.

tralala what did you end up doing?
Petite Marche and Hibino
Not sure about Petite Marche. Posts on this board in the past have said you can walk in to Petite Marche when Noodle Pudding and Henry's end are packed. I don't know if they take reservations at Hibino. You might have to wait a bit, but not long. If you go to Hibino, pick up some beer, wine or sake, they don't have their liquor license yet.
30th Bday - Outdoor Space Preferred
Are you doing a full dinner or drinks and snacks?
Where can I find puff pastry?
Thanks. I stopped by Garden of Eden and they had some in stock (for $9.99). I bet the price at Sahadi's is better.
Where can I find puff pastry?
I'm participating in the Cook Book of the Month (Arabesque by Roden) and chose a recipe that requires puff pastry. I hit every store on Smith and Court (didn't make it to Garden of Eden) and could only find the Peppridge Farms pre-formed puff pastry discs. Any ideas where in the neighboorhood I might be able to find it in a more maleable form?
Best Thai On Smith St?
Well, Joya isn't on Smith, so doesn't really answer the question. But I think Ghang is good and IMHO better than Joya. When I eat at Joya I feel like I'm on a conveyor belt, everything is in and out so quickly (cheap prices=turn tables fast). I used to like Thai Sesame, but the food was never consistent. Never been to Em
