Raleigh area Pancakes

Pam's Farmhouse on Western and Ed's at City Market downtown are both great breakfast options with yummy pancakes.

Duck & Dumpling Raleigh is no more

I believe Chef David's new place has been open for a bit - David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar.

Raleigh area - authentic bagels

NYBD in Cary (shopping center with HT and Wal Mart at Tryon and Kildaire Farm) is my NY-born-and-bred husband's current go-to bagel place. Seems to be pretty popular with most of the NY transplants in the area, but as a Southerner, I can't vouch for it's "authenticity".

Looking for feedback (i.e. personal experiences) Raleigh Restaurants

I eat at Lucky 32 all the time - my office is right around the corner. I like their seasonal menu changes - there's usually something new to try. My faves are the beef stew and black bean cakes, and yes, the PB pie is amazing. They also have RC in the bottle for us nostalgic Southern types. :-)

(Never been to the one in WS - I'm talking about the Cary location.)

Raleigh Breakfast?

IMHO, Raleigh has a pretty severe lack of great breakfast places. That being said, our usual go-to stops are either Ed's or Pam's. I like the food at both, and the friendly service can't be beat.

New York Style deli in Raleigh nc??

Is that place still open? I drive by there all the time and I would swear it's closed.

Best gourmet markets in the Triangle?

Just for clarification, the Meat House is in the Saltbox Village shopping center, which is NOT the same one with Trader Joe's. It's just down Kildaire Farm, though. Saltbox has Outback and Ace Hardware.

An d yes, the Meat House is excellent!

Raleigh - near airport

Cafe Luna is downtown, and yes, Babymoon Cafe is the one on Airport Blvd. I've always liked the food there, but it's just so LOUD.

Morrisville NC recommendations

We like Mez - the guac and the shrimp ceviche are outstanding, and the food is overall very good. The only downside is that I think it's pricey for the amount of food that you get.

Who has best fish tacos in Triangle?

I love the fish tacos at Mez on Page Road near RTP. Their guac rocks, too.

Favorite locally owned/supplied shopping (Specifically looking for new cheese options) - Triangle area

La Farm is still there, but it's a bakery and cafe, not a cheese shop. Lionel has a few cheeses and spreads, but nothing that would wow you at all.

Favorite locally owned/supplied shopping (Specifically looking for new cheese options) - Triangle area

Psst - the fig jam is even better with the asiago cheese. :-)

New Henry's Gelato location (Raleigh) - Grand Opening Party this Saturday 5/8!

Henry's has a new location now open in North Hills, and he's hosting a Grand Opening/Happy Gelato party this Saturday, May 8th. If any of you attended the party in Cary last summer, it's going to be very similar - games, prizes, balloons, clowns, all that good stuff. Party runs from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm and there will be plenty of tents, so Henry says the party's on come rain or shine. He said he'll be introducing a new flavor or two, although I'm not sure what they will be.

The new digs are pretty swanky - just beside the entrance to the parking garage and near the new Harris Teeter. I'm sure the gelato addicts in North Raleigh will be happy that they don't have to drive to Cary now. :-)

Updated Recs for Greenville, SC please

suse, we lived in Greenvegas for six years, and Soby's was consistently our "where should we go?" place. Always had great food, fun service, and an overall good experience there much as you've described - lively and non-pretentious.

Fuquay-varina nc

I've never been the world's biggest Daniel's fan for anything other than their pizza. We were at the FV location about a month ago, ordered non-pizza dishes, and found them just as mediocre as the ones in Apex, I'm sad to say.

J&S makes pretty good pizza and a decent Greek salad, but like sisterbeer, I'd say to skip most of their other offerings. Their rice balls were TERRIBLE, and I do mean bad. Love their Sicilian pie, though.

I can't recommend Joyce & Family highly enough, but I was raised on Southern cooking. My NY-born-and-bred husband is not quite as fond of it as I am, but he doesn't starve, either.

Hot dogs in North Raleigh?

I've seen dog carts at a lot of the Lowe's around town. They all seem to be pretty similar - Sabrett's or Nathan's dogs with a variety of toppings.

Columbia, SC

The OP asked for breakfast recommendations. OPH is (or at least, used to be) one of the best breakfast places in Columbia. Feel free to add any local establishments that have great breakfast - I'm going to be back in Columbia in a few weeks and would love new places to try as well.

Columbia, SC

Sue, I'd say skip Maurice's regardless of his politics. I think there's much better Q to be had, and would agree that Little Pigs is great.

I've not been to Columbia in a while, but with regard to breakfast, we always really enjoyed The Original Pancake House in Trenholm Plaza on Forest Drive.

Sticky Fingers BBQ............

I use the sauce occasionally at home, but the Q is fairly standard. Not the worst I've ever had, but nothing to really write home about, either.

Cupcakes in Triangle

bf, you are correct re: La Farm. They are fabulous and do many things well, but are very much a cafe and bakery vs. pastry shop. I don't recall ever seeing cupcakes there - although in their defense, I've never missed them with all of the other yummy stuff there. :-)

Hamburger Dives Charleston, SC

I've always loved the burgers at the Griffon in Charleston - it's near Waterfront Park downtown.

Finally hit THE Angus Barn

I was going to craft a reply, mikeh, but then realized I couldn't make my point any better than you've articulated yours. So I'll just go with the completely unoriginal "+1" on your comment. :-) I'll also add that I do find AB to be *way* superior to Bern's - better service and a less pretentious atmosphere.

best place for fried chicken in Raleigh?

YES - I was going to suggest Smithfield's! They have some of the best fried chicken I've had that wasn't home made. Their Brunswick stew ain't bad either. There are several around town - I've been to the stores in Morrisville and Holly Springs/Fuquay.

Best Bakery in Raleigh? ISO Best Cinnamon Bun Ever (Preggo Craving)

The monkey bread at La Farm is pretty doggone good. Not a traditional cinnamon bun, per se, but a yummy substitute when you've got that kind of craving. Everything I've had there has been great, but the monkey bread, pain au chocolat, and scones are my favorites.

Best burger in Raleigh?

Didn't that used to be Chop House?

New Chef at Duck and Dumpling (Raleigh)

Uh oh - I don't consider that to be good news, because we LOVE Chef David. I'll reserve judgment until I hear some reviews, but man, what bad news!

Moving to Charlotte. Afraid of the food

You'll usually have to ask places to leave the slaw off of your BBQ sandwich, but it's not a common thing on burgers.

Not-to-be-missed BBQ in and around Raleigh

Nope, the BBQ is nothing too special. The fried chicken's not bad, though, if you get it while it's fresh.

King Cake near Durham NC?

The King Cakes at La Farm are fantastic! I get several there every year.

Charleston's Best Restaurants for NYC Foodies?

penny, I've never had a problem getting one of the black cabs, but then I usually make it a point to get an individual driver's name and number and use him for my entire visit.

You're also just about the only person I've ever heard say anything negative about Hominy Grill. What makes you say "overrated"? Just curious - that's one of the few places in Charleston that's pretty universally enjoyed.
