Buddakan
but it does need to be said that the food at Vietnam is NOT Chinese fried food. It is a very healthy and light place to eat. I think a lot of people mistake anything in china town as deep fried but there are a ton of great places (charlies, rangoon, vietnam, penang(sp?))
One meal in Center City -- for one -- any suggestions?
Rangoon is good. Also - Vietnam Restaurant is one of my favorites in that neighborhood. Its on 11th just south of Vine, on the East side of the street. El Vez at 13 and Sansom is also fun solo. All three are walkable from where you are staying. The Rittenhouse and Old City neighborhoods are also worth the taxi ride, probably $5 or so.
Buddakan
Buddakan has been great every time I have been there. Chock it up to a bad night and give them another shot! Vietnam Restaurant (NOT Palace) is awesome too. My favorite place in china town by far.
Piano Bar in DelCo/ChesCo?
great new piano bar in Center City Phila around 20th and Arch. A bit pricey on the drinks but no cover and they will cover your cab getting there. Not sure what its name is but shouldn't be hard to find as the only piano bar left in center city (I think).
Triumph Brewery in Old City?
The building was originally built as Mechanics National Bank in 1837 by William Strickland (very famous Philadelphia architect). In 1930 the building was bought by the Norwegian Seaman's Church and remained that until 1980 or so. The church put in the stained glass and expanded the building in the back. In 1983 the building was sold to a night club guy (revival, ugly, etc.) and the rest is history... The building changed hands again in July 06.
