Clubhouse Cafe is CLOSED
According to Koshertopia:
In what is being blamed on a sale of the building, Koshertopia has learned that this coming Thursday will be the last time one can dine at Clubhouse Cafe. Located at 155 West 46th Street, Clubhouse has been a popular date destination for many and a hub for young hip kosher consumers on the weekend. Management has shared with us that they plan on re-opening in six months in the same area, let’s wait and see…

Kosher Pickles
I don't know why you revisited an 8 year old topic, but I'll add another point. "Kosher pickes" have to be kosher under consumer protection laws. In most states, you cannot call a product "kosher" without it actually being kosher. We can debate standards, but it is pretty much fraud to call a product "kosher" when it isn't. The work-around is to call a product Kosher-style or Jewish-style or even New York-style.
Kosher pickles, much like kosher salt, refers to a specific pickling technique. Nonetheless, the product must be kosher.
Kosher in Greenwich, CT?
I should add that West Hartford has a kosher supermarket (Crown, though not everyone accepts the hashgacha) and a Big Y with a kosher takeout. THere's also a deli in nearby Bloomfield - http://cateringbyshumans.com/
See here - http://www.hartfordkashrut.org/establishments.php?header=2&menu=1
kosher certified murray's chickens at fairway-whole chicken $1.79/lb!
I believe the reason for the addition of the Kof-K is because as Fairway expands, less of its market knows who R' Marmorstein is. Therefore, Fairway need a hashgacha that people in Stamford, Plainview, NJ, etc. can recognize. I wonder if there will be any changes besides the new symbol on the products.
At the Fairway in Stamford, the meat is all dually labeled by Marmorstein and the Vaad of Fairfield County.
Kosher in Greenwich, CT?
Hartford is about an 1-1.5 hours from Stamford, the closest of your options. If you're in Hartford, you aren't going to any of those cities for a meal.
New Rochelle/Westchester
Also in Scarsdale, there is a dairy Seasons location (called the Gourmet Chef) which has take-out food with a couple of tables I think. It is basically a dairy deli counter. There's also a new vegetarian/vegan restaurant in that same shopping center. It has wraps, smoothies, etc. I don't recall if it's vegetarian or vegan. It's called ANDY'S PURE FOOD and it's certified by Vaad HaRabbonim of Queens.
Kosher Paris bakery
This bakery in the Marais is one of the best I've ever tasted. I had an apple strudel that was to die for. It is a few doors down from the falafel joint.
It's called Murciano Benguigui's Bakery and is at 16, rue des Rosiers
Here's a photo:

Kosher wedding places in Long Island
Those are both Morrell locations and have been in the news for un-kosher allegations recently. Especially the Beth Torah location.
Kosher in Greenwich, CT?
I cut and pasted from the Vaad of Fairfield website. See here - http://www.vaadct.org/services.html I don't know about anything specific on the list (except KOSH).
This chocolate place is also kosher. It's in Greenwich - http://thelittlechocolatecompany.com/

Best kosher lox in New York?
I find Fairway then Zabars and then the rest. I'm talking packaged, not at the deli/appetizing counter. During Passover, I noticed that Fairway's label send something about Acme, so it could be that Fairway doesn't make its own but repackages Acme's? Regardless, Fairway's packaged lox is kof-K kosher.
Hong Kong - Kowloon or mid-level (Ohel Leah)?
I don't remember either way. I do remember when the hotel was recommended to us, that it is a common hotel for visitors to Ohel Leah. It's even recommended on the shul's website. But I don't remember our experiences. If you stay there, try to get a room facing downhill (and downtown with a view) rather than uphill and a view of buildings.
Hong Kong - Kowloon or mid-level (Ohel Leah)?
My wife and I were in HK a few years ago. We stayed at the Bishop Lei which was a 5-10 minute walk to Ohel Leah. It's also on Robinson Road, which means it's a flatter walk to/from shul. Otherwise, you take the escalator system or climb.
On the other side of the Bishop Lei is a park and zoo which make for nice walks on Shabbat. I think there's a few more hotels on the other side of the park and zoo. This is all in the mid-level.
Cauliflower for Shabbat Lunch
Lately, I've been to more and more Shabbat lunches were roasted cauliflower is served, in what I think is a cumin rub. Anyone know if this is a kosher by design recipe? It seems so ubiquitous that it must be coming from a more widespread source. I don't even like cauliflower, and I've been enjoying it. Anyone have the recipe?
C
Passover cocktails?
I understand the point, but then why doesn't that principle apply in another setting. I.e., the assumption was that it wasn't possible to eat chametz in Israel on Shabbat. If you can eat the chametz that will be purchased back because you will be buying it back, then why couldn't an Israeli eat his chametz yesterday on Shabbat?
Chicken Soup Recipe- KOSHER
I don't know anything that would make a chicken soup recipe inherently not kosher for passover. I would just do a google search. Basically, chicken soup is put chicken and veggies in a pot of water, bring to a boil, then simmer until desired strength. More dark meat and skin gives more flavor (and fat). Adjust salt at the end. Veggies are usually onions, carrots and celery. Dill is traditionally as well.
As for matzah balls, again either google, or streit's matzah meal has a recipe for matzah balls (and I would think most boxes of matzah meal would too). Also, you can just buy K for P matzah ball mix, which is matzah meal, salt and either baking soda or powder (I forgot which).
Kid friendly Passover foods
My 19-month old daughter runs around the house with Cheerios. I picked up the Crispy O's yesterday. When we unveil them on Friday, I feel like we'll be playing a trick like in those old coffee commercials: "We've secretly replaced Jim's coffee with Folger's." I hope she doesn't figure it out.
Nut-Free Charoset
I was just asked to bring nut-free charoset to the seders for 20 people. Anyone have any good recipes?
And because I'm sure someone can answer this question as well - considering they are at their best in the fall, how did apples get to play such a prominent part in charoset?
Thanks.
Yogurt update
I went to the Shoprite in Stamford. The KLP yogurts were separate, but the section wasn't labeled as such. It was where the dairy products on special were.
Yogurt update
It was tough to find, but SOME Shoprite fruit on the bottom yogurt is KLP. The statement is neither near the hecksher or on the date stamp. Instead, if you are looking at the front of the yogurt, it is on the top left of the face (took me a while to find it).
pesach in Israel
Totally unrelated to the initial question, but it relates to the topic itself: is Pesach in Israel ostensibly 8 days this year because day 8 is Shabbat? Is there a way to eat chametz in Israel on that Shabbat? I understand it is not chag in terms of prayers.
16 handles???
On the UWS, the older one, is across the street from the JCC on Amsterdam (maybe a block or so south).
K for Passover restaurants in NYC
Solo has a Passover menu online, so I imagine it's open - http://solo.primehospitalityny.com/files/Solo-Passover-menu-2012.pdf
Clubhouse is also open - http://www.clubhousecafe.net/shedule.pdf
dad need recipes
One of the problematic aspects of hot dogs is nitrates which is present in most hot dogs - kosher and traif. A&H has a line of nitrate-free dogs which are pretty good. Some Neshama sausages are nitrate-free as well.
Chocolate Bakery in Tel Aviv
This is a shot in the dark, but worth that shot. A few years ago, I was in Tel Aviv and went to a little bakery/chocolate place. I'm trying to find the name of it. It's just south of the Friday shuk and near the Israel Center for Certified Public Accountants (my dad's a CPA so I took a picture of the building on the walk back). The entrance is down three steps and I had a really delicious frozen chocolate mousse bar.
I'm trying to send a friend there on her trip.
Thanks.
nyc - restaurants open after shabbat
Le Marais and Clubhouse Cafe may be open. They often are.
Hamentaschen
I had some incidents with my cookie sheet, so the plan was canceled. Thank you for the recipe though. And I can't find the kitchenaid (we just moved).
Care for Cast Iron (I need to get rid of the fish smell)
I made salmon in my cast iron pan (not enamel) the other night. I'm still new at this, but wiped it with a wet paper towel, then dried it. Then I rubbed some veggie oil on it. A few days later, it smells of fish. What to do? And please don't say reseason.
Thanks.
Hamentaschen
It's Saturday night before Purim, my kitchenaid mixer I got as a wedding gift has never been used, and I want to make hamentaschen. Anyone have a good recipe they'd be willing to share?
