Grocery Outlet March 2011
I got the bacon-wrapped pork chops at the Berkeley store last month, and they were pretty tasty.
Also, I spotted Vicolo pizzas in the freezer section but most of them were well past their use or freeze by date. Wonder when they were actually frozen.
CSA Thoughts
I've used Farm Fresh to You/Capay Organic on and off for the past few years. While convenient, there have been a few times when the quality has been sub-par, or the handling was a bit rough, resulting in unusable produce. However, if I spoke up, they were often willing to give me a credit.
I do like that they deliver to your door, can put weeks on hold and customize your box.
King Wah in Oakland Chinatown (what's happening?)
I passed by a couple of days ago, and they had a sign reading "New King Wah" up. A quick web search reveals this:

Is this the same family name as the previous/now retired owners?
French Laundry review- Overall experience
Larry, thanks for your concise review without being *too* concise, y'know what I mean? Not a novel, but enough to give the readers a great idea of your experience.
I really appreciate your review, since I am going to TFL for the first time next week. I pretty much had the same thoughts as you when the available reservation popped up on OT. In these hard economic times, I seriously second guessed making the reservation. But I hit the button, and here we go...!
Good boba in (or close to) San Francisco
Anyone have recommendations in Oakland Chinatown? I have no idea where to start.
bars serving hitachino beers in SF?
Bar Crudo also serves Hitachino... a nice compliment to an oyster!

Spicy Cocktails in the Bay Area?
Also... The Alembic in the Upper Haight used to serve this great cocktail called "The Bone", which has rye, tabasco and lime... it's not on the menu anymore, but most of the bartenders remember it and will still make it for you!

Spicy Cocktails in the Bay Area?
I'm not sure if they're mixing cocktails with these in the tasting room, but the Hangar One (St. George's Spirits) distillery makes both wasabi and chipotle vodkas. Worth a swig!

Spicy Cocktails in the Bay Area?
I second the “Carter Beats the Devil” and Flora in general! They have great drinks, and the food ain't bad ither. ;)
Homemade frozen dumplings in East Bay?
Shan Dong's dumplings are around $25 for a bag, which I think holds 50 dumplings.
Walnut Creek Restaurants
I second Va De Vi. I think it's a quintessential Northern CA place with a good energy, great food and wine selection.
Any decent restaurants in Foster City?
I used to work in Foster City and had a coupla old faithfuls...
Tokie's Japanese - decent sushi, good lunch and dinner plates. Was one of the few places I could find ahi poke on the peninsula.
Pho New Saigon - Good pho, of course, but lots of other good vn dishes. Also, bubble tea!

2008 Peaches are here, too.
Yes! I just bought some at the Tuesday Farmer's Market. I am indeed happy.
Any great bars in downtown Oakland?
Consider this another vote for Flora. I used to live around the corner for Absinthe and sorely miss it. Since moving to Oakland, I've dubbed Flora my new Absinthe!
fresh-made Takoyaki in SF
I made this search a few years ago as well. Tanpopo in JTown has fresh Takoyaki!

2008 Peaches are here, too.
I'm on the lookout for Cal Red Peaches, as they only seem to be available for a short time each year... anyone seen 'em around yet?
Mexican in Walnut Creek?
Yeah, that Taqueria has been there forever... well, as long as *I* can remember! Their burritos are comfort food to me, as I grew up on 'em. :)
Jong Ga House in Oakland
The Sorabol in Walnut Creek is now known "Koreana Kitchen"... for a couple years now, I think?
The 2008 cherries are here !!!
Thank goodness! I *just* ran out of my homemade brandied cherries.
Oakland Weekday Breakfast
The Cockadoodle Cafe on Washington between 7th and 8th (close to the 12 St. BART station) is a good call. Try the graham cracker french toast!

Hidden City Cafe is one of the East Bay's best brunch spots. Who knew?
A bit of trivia: Hidden City was the code name of the Pixar movie "Monsters, Inc." before it even had a title. I worked at their old location in Point Richmond when this movie was in pre-production, and remembered how it was referred to as Hidden City. As a matter of fact, you can see Hidden City featured in the teaser trailer for Wall-E.

Favorite menu item at Zuni Cafe?
Yes, they do. To clarify, I meant that they don't server it for dinner until after 10pm.
Favorite menu item at Zuni Cafe?
I can't bring myself to have anything there but the burger... it's one of the best I've ever had. Well worth waiting till after 10pm for (since they only serve it on their late night menu for dinner)!
Best place for dim sum in Oakland?
Haha, this is so true. I'm glad I live right near Chinatown, or I'd never get to eat at any of these restaurants ;)
Mexican in the Inner Ricmond?
Even though it's not in the Richmond, Papalote is great... always gotta bring home a jar of that salsa! They're also in the outer Mission.
Also: This is the first time I've heard "Chowdar". I think I might start to use that term :)

Mexican in the Inner Ricmond?
Yep, Tommy's, Tia Margarita and Gordo are the only three I can think of as well. There really aren't any Mexican options in the Richmond, unfortunately, and they're all mediocre. Amongst the three, I'd go with Tia Margarita. The plates are generous, and fill you up. Always go for the top shelf margarita, on the rocks :)
Picante in Berkeley--who cares?
I haven't been there for lunch or dinner, which seems like most people are talking about here. But I love to go to Picante for brunch... they have a good selection of breakfast (read: egg) plates!

Brandied Cherries
Great, thanks! I will most definitely check them out (and gives me an excuse to check out the new WF)!
I ended up buying frozen cherries and using my usual brandied cherry recipe (from Art of the Bar). They ended up a bit too sweet and mushy, which I guess I expected from frozens.
Brandied Cherries
Great, thank you! I will try them out.
Although I don't use brandy in a manhattan (I use bourbon or rye), I make sure my cherries are brandied. None of this bright red maraschino junk!
