O! Thank you for that link, joonjoon! The recipe looks great! I will try it soon!
Anyone cook daikon?
I always have used raw daikon in my salad. I love it, but I've been wondering if anyone has ever cooked it....and if so....how?
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good
O! When you make the Cranberry Brownie recipe, please let me know!!!!!!!
Cranberries are one of my favorite foods...when they're in season (only about 3 months), I buy A LOT and freeze them so I can have them all year. I roast them for a little while in the oven (I know they sell them, but they are soaked in sugar-----eeechh!
white stuff on marmalade
That's what I think....that it's sugar, because I'm the only person here & I'm very careful about putting clean utensils into a jar of anything.
white stuff on marmalade
I have a jar of orange marmalade that I haven't used in months.....it's been in the fridge. Today I opened the jar & I saw a lot of white stuff on the surface. Is is only sugar? And if it is, how does the sugar go thru the jelly? Or is it something more ominous?
waffle batter same as pancake batter?
Thanx!!
But I think instead of 2 cups all purpose flour, I'll use 1 cup all purpose & 1 cup whole wheat flour.
I love waffles & just bought a waffle iron but I'll try to cut down the fat....what do you think of eggbeaters (or shoprite brand) and butter substitute?
waffle batter same as pancake batter?
Should I use a different batter for waffles and/or pancakes?
What do you think is a good one?

Popcorn
Yes, I thought so. When I used it (1 time) I cringed. You know, I did use cayenne as a spice...
Popcorn
Does anyone have any good, tasty recipes for plain old popcorn? I don't want to use salt or butter (maybe a lttle salt). What about using cooking spray instead of butter?

Can you re-freeze milk?
I usually buy 1/2 gallon of milk & freeze half of it. I defrosted it today and I just realized that I am going away this weekend and I'd like to take 8 oz or so with me. I don't want it to go bad, so can I freeze it till then?
stoneware bowl gets very hot in microwave
I have 4 bowls that I am sure are stoneware (safe in micro?). But they get extremely hot in the micro. They are colored red. Would that have any effect? Someone said that the paint might have lead. Would lead being in the paint affect me? And how can I find out if there is lead in the paint?
making coffee
I was once told that when making coffee, you should use the coldest water possible. Why, when it just gets heated?
Bok Choy
I have eaten it like that (cooked).....because I think maybe the cooking kills whatever it is, but now I just want to add it to a salad (I love it raw ).
Bok Choy
I use bok choy....but sometimes it takes me a week to use it up. The one I have now is a week old (it's still crisp) but it has a lot of black/brown spots on the white part. Is it safe to eat? ISs that a form of mold or bacteria?
Real vanilla
Someone gave me a bottle of pure vanilla extract. It must be 20 years old (the top is sort of fused to the bottle, so it's very tight). Is it safe to use it?

Cheap, Cheap rest between E4th & Grand st.

Storing Rice
For years I have been keeping my rice in the fridge because I didn't want bugs in it (brn rice). I store it in a rubbermaid container. Is it necessary to keep it in the fridge?

Deep frying vs. frying
I was told that when you deep-fry, the food absorbs less oil than if it was fried (not covered in oil). This was told to me by a macrbiotic food friend. He said he also learned that in hies cooking class at school. Is that the truth?
Flax Seeds
Do you get the same nutritional value from eating whole flax seeds vs. ground seeds?
Cyan
Is canned salmon safe....
Is it safe to leave canned salmon in a backpack for a few hours (out of the can, maybe 3 ozs)?
Refreezing food
The other night I cooked a stirfry and there was way too much too eat at one time....what I usually do is freeze portion containers. But I wasn't thinking and I froze the whole thing in one container. Can I defrost it (somewhat) and portion into smaller containers and the freeze it again? It's mainly beans, olives, tomatoes, onion and a small amount of chicken.
Bergen County Bakery
B & W Bakery in Hackensack is very good. So is Butterflake in Teaneck. There's also Mazurs and Lyndhurst Pastry Shop ...both on Ridge Rd in Lyndhurst.
Boiling water with or without lid?
Does anyone know if water boils faster with the lid on or without the lid? I have asked a number of people.....I want to know what most of you think.

Italian in North Jersey
What's a good Italian resto in North Jersey? Bergen or Passaic Counties, please?
Inexpensive grocery items that are surprisingly good
You are so right about the walmart's sauce! I bought it but didn't want anyone (friends) to see it....but it was GOOD! And their raisin bran is good, too!
Question....
Actually, I do this all the time....it's just that a friend of mine questioned it...she said the potato was not healthy to eat. I didn't think that, if the sprouts are removed, I think they're fine.
Question....
If your potatoes have sprouts, are they safe to eat (if you cut off the sprouts)?
